"Riesz!" Before Hawkeye can get his warning out, the barrage of knives, expertly thrown, find their target and it seems like half a dozen hilts suddenly bloom from the edges of Riesz's torso -- at her hip, the crevice between her pauldron and her breastplate, and even her neck.
Dashing in her direction, he is not even able to take a better second look at her injuries before a fuzzy shimmer in the air makes Hawkeye's eyes water and blink. In her place, all there is is a simple bough of a tree and some shimmering pollen. The constricting rope around Hawkeye's heart loosens a few notches as he realizes the spell he cast earlier worked. Thanking Dryad for her blessing he turns back toward their enemy.
The master ninja faces him, readying for another attack, but behind him, Riesz suddenly blinks back into existence. She brings down the tip of her heavy spear right through his helmet, and he crumples to the ground.
"Nice one!" Hawkeye says, chipper and casual, to cover for the fact that he'd nearly had a heart attack the moment before. But Riesz was safe, and by everything in his power, he would keep her so.
