Chapter Text
"It's too hot out here.." Pearl panted, gripping the collar of her shirt and pulling and pushing it against her chest rapidly, trying to get some air inside.
The blood hound had worn a large brown coat, a beige polo shirt with a green shirt beneath it. Tall black boots, with the brown of her pants pooling around the top and straps around the waist and left leg. Even though the brunette was immune to the sun thanks to her unique condition, she still wore a leather sunhat. Pearl's shoulders were hunched forward, and she was sticking her tongue out like a dog mid pant.
Beside the blood hound was Cleo, the vampire had worn a white dress that pooled around her feet, a single black flower pinned to her chest. They also wore a black sunhat, however due to the fear of possibly being burned by the sun, decided it was also best to bring a parasol to add as bonus protection. She didn't mind the somewhat warmth her attire of choice gave her, their undead body was cold enough as it is and gods forbid she want to wear anything cold. It wasn't like temperature bothered her that much either, more so- New York seemed to have less shade than the large expanse of trees back in Oakhurst.
"Scott did warn us about how hot New York was going to be, while I admire your need to wear something impressive (and not something of Scott's)- you run hot, my love" They gently reminded Pearl, amused at their partner's predicament.
"Well Shelby told us to wear something fancy but comfortable, something about a special event that'll help us blend in." Pearl huffed, dodging busy humans who were either engrossed in their cellular phones or were scurrying off in a hurry.
The silver hair vampire shook their head and pinched the side of their companion, not needing this level of sass aimed at her today. As, for some odd reason- there were way too many humans out. New York, as explained by Scott, Shelby and Drift, is always filled to the brim with humans. However, as the two reached their destination for the planned meet up, they noticed the tonal shift of the humans they passed. For one, Cleo noticed a young woman with eccentric teal hair, with the numbers 01 placed on her shoulder. Then they passed by the weirdest sight, a man wearing a pot on his head and what can only be assumed as bed cloth or something of that manner over his waist. There were some in armor, some in- animal costumes? It was all dizzying to process.
"What on Earth is going on?" Pearl mumbled, sharing the same thoughts with Cleo.
"I've not the faintest idea, my dear. Though we do seem to be drawing a lot of attention." The silver haired vampire whispered back.
Ever since they entered this 'function hall,' a lot of the humans were openly gawking at them- whispering amongst themselves. Had this been in a more controlled area, neither Pearl nor Cleo could pick up what was being spoken about. However due to the large amount of idle chatter and background noise, it would be a headache to exude that much effort on spying on a couple of curious humans. At least that was what the two hoped, Drift assured them that the trio living out in New York had gone undetected for years and that notion has yet to change.
"I hope it's all good things." Pearl whined, arms crossed over her chest.
Cleo could only quietly agree, rubbing the back of their partner in comfort. The two found a nice quiet corner of this function hall to wait for their friends, with the blood hound happy to be under cool air as they were beside a machine that seemed to generate it.
–
"Please look over here!"
"Ah wait- could you do another pose?"
"Just a little lower, Heisenberg!" The human's asked, holding up a modern camera.
Pearl nearly snarled at the flashing lights, adjusting the shades that one of them lent her to shield her eyes from the powerful flashes of light. The blood hound wondered where the rest of the humans had come out from, as she only remembered agreeing to a picture with one. That seemed to have tumbled into a bunch of humans asking for photos, it was nice to feel appreciated for her abysmal height but even this was getting too much. The brunette noticed others in similar positions, but wondered how they could handle all this posing and standing around. Another human who was similarly dressed as her lent a large hammer, made of soft material- which made sense. Had it been made of metal, she would wonder if the humans of today had gotten stronger over the years.
Cleo was fairing.. a little better than Pearl, thanks in part due to whatever 'character' the humans thought she was acting as. The words 'Lady Dimitrescu' and 'Lord Heisenberg' were thrown around. Whatever- so long as the humans continued to be blissfully unaware of their identity, they did not mind it. Though she did wonder who these individuals were, and how they managed to enrapture a group of humans (plenty more as she would soon find out) into practically worshipping their every step and actions. Truly, humans seemed to have evolved into.. unique tastes as she had last checked.
"I don't like how they are looking at you, my love." Pearl snarled, holding back the urge to snap at one of the humans.
The vampire chuckled, a rich velvety sound that calmed the blood hound down a little. Red eyes bore into darker red one's, as they caressed the blood hound's cheek. It also certainly was a treat to witness Pearl's protective nature, in a more controlled way. It was very.. hot, she certainly didn't mind drawing out more of this side of the brunette some more in the future.
"Easy, my dear." They cooked. "They cannot simply touch what they can see, not like you."
Pearl huffed, between pride and slight annoyance. She stamped out this urge to shield her lover away, if Cleo was fine with it, then she was going to be fine with it. Eventually however, the group did begin to wane, until one last human approached. A man with quite a number of scars on himself, dragging what looks to be his friend. They seemed to be dressed up in quite a funny outfit, something like a treasure hunter would wear (at least that's what Pearl assumed).
"Hello! Do you girls mind taking a few photos with my friend here? She absolutely adores Resident Evil: Village." The man babbled, patting his friend on the back. "She even came, dressed as the gender bent version of the protagonist!"
The friend, in question, was a smaller human (then again all humans were small compared to the two vampires). Dressed in a grey hoodie, over a brown jacket and jeans. Ginger locks hiding her face from the two vampires, though from her fidgeting and shuffling- it was clear this human was afraid. When the man lightly pushed her forward, she squeaked and looked up at the two women.
"H-Hello! My name's Gem!" She managed to squeak out. "My friend Scar would like a photo with us three!"
Pearl hummed, she was feeling a bit exhausted from standing around. However- Gem seemed very eager, and it would be a sin to lie if she hadn't found the little human amusing. She looked over to her lover, nudging them with her elbow.
"Ah- well, I'm sure me and my girlfriend wouldn't mind." Cleo responded with a polite smile. "My name is Cleo, nice to meet you two."
They raised a hand out towards Gem, and the ginger haired woman felt the need to kiss the back of it. Which she did, for some reason. The reddening flush overtaking her face caused Pearl to laugh.
"My name is Pearl, lovely to meet you, Miss Gem." The brunette reached out and pinched the ginger human's cheek.
Scar watched in amusement as his friend looked between the tall women, sputtering and having an absolute crisis. He may or may not have done this on purpose, but genuinely he did want to capture photos of the three. Pearl- Heisenberg, was extremely tall. Tallest he'd seen, and Lady Dimitrescu.. er, Cleo, while not having the right hair color was also just as tall- if not a little shorter than Pearl. It was almost an accurate depiction of the two characters, this was incredible! Gem would definitely hound him for a copy of these photos, and maybe show it off to the others who sadly missed out on the convention.
Pearl felt a familiar itch on her back after a moment, they hadn't gotten pictures taken yet so it should be alright to do the thing. The blood hound stepped back a little, ignoring the curious looks from the human's while Cleo reassured them that she needed to stretch a little. The brunette let out a yawn, a little louder than normal. Her shoulders straightened out, pulling back a little to stretch her back out, the shifting of spines in rhythmic cracks following afterwards which caused her chest to puff out. Pearl was standing to her full height, her ears picked up a breath hitch and a gasp. Then just as fast as she was standing tall, she hunched back over and itched at her cheek.
Scar subtly looked over at Gem, bewildered by the absolutely towering woman. If he had thought Pearl was tall before the stretch, he was sorely mistaken, no wonder the brunette had to slouch. He didn't want to pry, but if he was just as tall as Pearl then he'd also be hunching around just trying not to hit signs and branches.
Gem bit her bottom lip, unsure what to feel- turned on? She didn't think she could find anyone hot just by simply stretching, then again she may be learning too much about herself right now. Looking over to Cleo, her face darkened when she noticed red eyes looking back at her. The ginger haired woman cleared her throat and looked away, hiding the bottom half of her face with her jacket.
The silver haired vampire rolled her eyes in amusement and walked up to Pearl, the blood hound melting immediately once her hands were cupping the blood hound's cheeks. Squishing flesh together like one would with a pet, giggling softly to themselves.
"Ooooh big stretch~" They coo, nuzzling their nose with Pearl's. "Very big stretch~"
In that moment Scar blinked out of his trance and noticed the compromising position Gem had gotten herself into, the ginger haired woman was squashed in between the two women and has yet to speak up anything about it. He held up the camera and took a few quick photos, smirking to himself- while it wasn't going to go on his page, certainly Gem was going to want copies of these. The man was looking down at the screen, making sure he got proper shots.
"E-Excuse Me!" Once she felt Cleo's boobs press against the side of her face, she knew she had enough.
"Oops, sorry dearie." Cleo laughed, stepping back.
"Alright, ready for photos?" Scar asked, saving his friend from further embarrassment.
-
"There you two are!" Shelby yelled over the crowd, a familiar trio of silver haired vampires quickly made their way over.
"Pearl, Cleo." Scott greeted the two with a nod, standing behind Scar.
"Hey, I didn't know you two liked Resident Evil." The detective muttered, eyeing the two humans.
Shelby's smile dropped when Pearl's face contorted from glee (from being together with almost everyone again), to confusion in the span of a minute. Her red cloak fluttered in the wind as she covered Pearl's mouth, the span of a few seconds in which she reacted was barely caught on by the two human's. She looked at Cleo and shook her head, before whispering something into Pearl's ear.
Scott, sensing his fledgling's need to cover up what might've been an awkward conversation, stepped up and between the human's. He offered a polite smile, and looked between the two. Striking up a conversation with the male human, about the camera he was holding. Interested in the model and making of it.
"Oh! Hornet and Lace!" Gem gasped, eyes shining when she looked between Drift and Shelby.
The detective was dressed in white, though the space around her hips to her knee was poofed up in an odd shape, not to mention the mushroom-like head gear. The writer wore a red cloak and had a bug-like mask fixed to the side of her head, the two carried odd shaped weapons such as a needle and a pin.
"Yes! I'm assuming you're Ethan Winters?" Drift responded with just as much enthusiasm.
–
"Thanks again for the photos." Gem tucked a hair behind her ear, flushed.
"It was our pleasure, Gem." Cleo responded, flashing a dazzling smile. "Anything for a pretty face."
Pearl snorts, rolls her eyes and leans over. "Cute more like it."
Gem was ready to burst, her heart was going to over charge itself into the sun and she would be more than happy to do so. The ginger rests a hand on her chest, looking over to Scar. The man was happily going through his collection of photos to the other man- Scott, as he introduced himself. She leaned away from the two, incredibly and unfairly attractive women- hastily writing down something on a scratch paper she yanked from Scar's notepad and shoved it into the blood hound's hand.
"CALL ME- BYE!" Gem grabbed her friend by his arm and practically zoomed out of there, as fast as a human could.
The group of vampires all blinked, then one of them- Shelby, looked towards the two with a smirk. She happily got in between the couple and threw her arms around them, she struggled to do so with Pearl but the thought counted.
"So, Gem huh?" She started. "What was that all about, hm?"
The curly haired vampire scoffed, "none of your business."
"Do our telephone reach here?" Pearl spoke up. "These are a lot of numbers."
Drift cringed at that, visibly dreading the next activity already. The detective didn't need to think hard enough to know that the 'telephone' service the two have been using was defunct, by some miracle it was still on line thanks to some poking around by Scott the last time the trio visited Oakhurst. The man was quick and silent with his upgrades, just because he didn't want to break it to the two that the telephone had somewhat gone defunct.
"We have a lot of catching up to do, but right now let's settle down and eat." Scott sighed, sharing a look with the detective.
"Ooooh, yes right- ah! I believe Scott and I are hosting this time, let's catch a cab." The shorter vampire suggested, leading the group to the exit.
"The cab!? I hate those damn metal chariots, I feel so cramped.." The blood hound whined, deflating.
"Well New York has gotten busy, we can't just travel normally anymore." The sire pointed out, gesturing to the still busy streets.
"Well not everyone can be as tall as you, Pearl." Drift laughs. "What are you... like- 8 ft tall?"
"7ft but thanks.." Cleo chuckles and rubs her partner's back.
"Maybe on the way there we can talk about getting you two upgrades, some new phones, a service provider... maybe get wifi in that castle finally.." Shelby giggled, rocking on her heels.
"Like they could get a proper signal in Oakhurst, that place is practically dead to the humans with all the-" The detective sighed, vaguely gesturing. "Stuff."
"Ah ah ah, not if I can say anything about it." Scott smirked. "Shelby made me invest in a few tech companies aaand I may or may not have rubbed some elbows with some bigwigs-"
"Of course you did." Cleo muttered.
"I'm sure I can pull in some strings and favors for our two lovely ladies." He continued, unperturbed by the comment.
"Aw thanks mate! We can always count on you." Pearl cheered.
"Cab's here!" Shelby called out to the group. "We have got to talk about Gem, she looks absolutely smitten!"
