Darkness. That’s all there was, surrounding me. Despite that. I could still see myself perfectly, as if it was midday. As I was trying to figure out what was happening, a voice rang out from somewhere.
“Hello, hello, hello! I’m the one who brought you here, and I have a very special proposition for you!” The voice said, almost like a gameshow host, or someone trying to sell you something. “But, before I do that, I need to give you the context. Don’t wanna be a bad host after all! So you see, you died.”
“What!?” I exclaimed, thinking that couldn’t be possible, before realizing that I felt something lodged into my brain that definitely shouldn’t be there. “So this is the afterlife, then?” I ask. The voice doesn’t respond. I thought my inquiry fell on deaf ears for a moment when the voice responds.
“Nope! This is something else entirely. I decided that the way you died wasn’t very fair. So, I decided I’ll give you a second chance! You’re familiar with that concept, right?” The voice asks, confusing me even further.
“Reincarnation? Yes, I’m familiar with it.” My response doesn’t seem to be the correct one, as the voice shuts that down almost immediately.
“No, not that one. I think you humans call it isekai? Yeah, that sounds right.” The voice sounds smug that it was able to remember that term. It’s clearly not human, so I assume that it actually is impressive for it. Wait, did it just say that I’m getting isekai’d? I vocalize my question aloud, and the voice confirms my suspicion. “Yep! I’ll be sending you to another world of your choice. I’ll also let you choose exactly when and how you’ll be showing up! And if that world has a power system, you’ll be real strong, yessiree!” I am indeed getting isekai’d, it seems.
“Any world, you say? In that case, I’ve already decided.” This is absolutely an impulsive decision, hopefully I won’t regret this. “Puella Magi Madoka Magica, the first timeline, before Homura was a Magical Girl. I want to be in Mitakihara, about two months before the main story.” As I finish telling the voice where I want to go, I can already feel myself drifting off, hopefully to where I asked.
The voice still responds to me, despite seemingly already sending me off. “Alrighty! You’re on your way now! You’ll have enough karmic potential for almost any wish you could ever want! Well, aside from the reality rewriting ones. No Law of Cycles or worldwide doppel system for you! I wish you good luck in your new world, Ayumi Hosaki.”
And with the voice telling me what my new name would be, the darkness around me fades, and I fully give into the soft lull of unconsciousness.
