Work Text:
Lied sighs as he heads inside the mall to meet up with Iruma or rather Irumi in this particular situation. Don’t get him wrong, he loves hanging out with Iruma and had it been any other Saturday he would have been ecstatic to hangout (even if it was as their evildol personas…) but he had been planning this specific saturday out in his head for almost a month at this point.
Originally, Lied had planned to ask Jazz if he wanted to hangout at his place, just the two of them. It's not like it was meant to be special or anything, it’s just…..despite how close they were they'd never hungout alone before and if he maybe kinda sorta had an insy winsy little crush on the other demon well, that wasn’t anyone's business but his own. Feels or not Lied really didn't want to embarrass himself in front of the thief by being weird or messy or god forbid his annoying sister tried anything, hence his never ending anxiety when it came to asking the boy to hang out with him. He really cares for Jazz and didn’t want to fuck up their current dynamic.
This Saturday was the perfect opportunity, his sister would be out of town with her friends so he didn’t have to worry about her embarrassing him. He checked his game collection to make sure he had most if not all the games Jazz mentioned liking in the past and even reorganized so that his multi-player games were more towards the front instead of the single player ones. All he had to do was work up the courage to ask the other and he was set, he’d finally get to hangout with one of his closest ‘friends’ as Iruma would say one on one.
The opportunity to ask had practically fallen into his lap when Jazz asked if he had any plans for the upcoming weekend but of course things never tended to go his way. Before he could try and invite Jazz to his place Keroli had texted him saying she needed help with some ‘important’ evildol business and she couldn't do it without Lindy and Irumi. Lied didn't see how shopping at the mall was important to her idol career but she needed him and they were again as Iruma would put it, friends so it felt wrong to turn her down, especially since she seemed so earnest.
Thus here he was at the mall instead of hanging with Jazz like he had originally planned(read: hoped). Lied or rather Lindy right now sighed as she checked her devigram to make sure she got the meeting place right, despite her desires to help she can’t but feel a pang of annoyance at Keroli's most recent message stating she'd be late and to go on ahead.
“I can't help but feel cheated” she muttered as she looked up from her phone and saw Irumi being hounded by some guys who recognized him-her?-from the evildol games.
Lindy quickly whisked her away from the commotion giving her a pair of detection warding glasses. “What were you thinking just walking around like that without concealing your presence?” Irumi looked bashful as she apologized.
“I'm really sorry for the trouble lie- uhm Lindy, I wasn't expecting to be crowded like that so I hadn't thought to bring detection warding glasses, I kinda forgot we won the evildol games, you know?”
“It's fine, no worries I totally get what you mean I forget it even happened till someone brings it up.” she laughed a little.
“Do you want to windowshop for a little bit since Keroli’s going to be late?”
Lindy giggled a little at Irumi’s nervousness but otherwise ignored it. “I don’t see why not so sure.”
They walked around the mall for a bit window shopping and taking pictures for a few hours before they decided to sit down at a bench to rest.
Irumi sighs moving her hair out of her face for the 5th time in the past 30 minutes “You know even though I wasn't the most excited to put on this persona again just to go to the mall, I had a lot of fun with you today Lindy” Irumi said smiling bright and genuine, her face shining in earnest.
Lindy turned away slightly embarrassed, she wasn't used to getting such genuine compliments. “Yeah I had fun too..” She turned back towards Irumi who was watching some children play near the fountain in front of them while she messed with her hair again. I uh- you know if your hair is bothering you I can braid it back?” Lindy offered awkwardly.
“Oh uhm sure, I'd really appreciate that” Irumi turned so Lindy could reach the back of her hair better. “You’re really good at this, do you braid often?” Irumi asked while admiring the braid Lindy had done.
“Not often just every now and again. My sister used to make me braid her hair all the time when we were younger so I have some experience with it I guess.”
“Awww that’s really sweet of you. Maybe we should-” Irumi was cut off by her phone ringing, she apologized as she stepped to the side to take the call. When she came back she explained that Azz and Clara were in some type of situation so she had to go.
“I'm really sorry Lindy, I don’t mean to leave you so abruptly but-”
“No it’s alright, they need you right? So go ahead, I'll see you back at school.”
“Thank you Lindy, I really had fun, let's do this again sometime kay?”
“Yeah ‘course, maybe without our girly personas tho.”
Irumi laughed at her comment before waving goodbye as she left towards the exit.
Once Irumi was out of sight Lied wondered what he'd do now, he could go home but he doesn't really feel like leaving just yet. Plus not that he'd ever admit it to anyone but he felt pretty as Lindy so he decided to stay for a bit, pulling out his handheld console he sat and played for awhile. He was sitting there for god knows how long trying to beat a boss level when someone tapped his shoulder bringing him out of his game and back to the real world. Startled he fell off the bench he was sitting on, both his game and glasses fell to the floor with him. Lied rubbed at his probably bruised hip before picking up his game to inspect it for damages.
“Hey sorry about that I didn’t mean to startle you I just thought you looked familiar….” He heard a deep, almost familiar voice from above him. After checking his game over he looked up to see a very familiar hand stretched out to him from a boy he definitely knew.
If Lied were any less of a demon he probably would have died on the spot or at the very least ran. Instead he just stared, mortified because what are the odds that he would end up seeing Jazz this Saturday anyways. The same Jazz he went to school with, the same one he didn’t want to embarrass himself in front of, and the same one that he maybe might possibly be crushing on. There he was in the flesh, telling Lied, who was currently dressed as his female persona that he recognized him.
‘Kill me, put me out of my misery, Let me spontaneously combust at this point. Why does this type of thing always happen to me?’ Lied thought, trying to stay calm as he took the thief's hand, not that it would matter since he’d been gapping at the boy for a good 10 seconds before deciding to take his hand.
“Oh! Uh, no you're probably thinking of someone else maybe? I- we’ve never met or anything, I've kinda just got one of those faces, a very bland crowd like face that’s easily mistaken for someone else.” Lied-or rather Lindy since that’s how he’s presenting on the-outside answered laughing awkwardly ‘Because that was totally believable’ she thought. ‘At this rate he’ll definitely find me out’ and for the first time in her life she found herself wishing that Jazz would for the sake of her sanity go away.
During her ramble Jazz had leaned down to pick up the glasses that had fallen to the floor. “You know, you’d probably be more convincing with these but uh overall a believable since you’re so cute.”
Safe to say Lindy was going to die and this stupid thief would be the cause. She could feel her face heating up with every passing second until she was positively redder than red. On one hand…. Jazz called her cute, on the other hand Jazz called her cute!! It was both exhilarating and mortifying.
“Right! You’re uh so right so uh I’ll just take those and go-” Lindy tried to take the glasses from Jazz’s hand but he moved them out of her reach and continued to talk to her.
“I came up to you cause I thought you seemed lonely and was wondering if you wanted to walk with me for a little while. If not is fine too of course but before you dip could I at least get your autograph.” He asked, seeming almost desperate to keep her here which was unusual especially for Jazz. “I won’t tell anyone I saw you promise!!”
‘I never expected Jazz to be such a huge fan of Lindy’ he thought, feeling pretty conflicted about this development. Lied was happy that his Lindy persona was a convincing enough evildol to cause someone or more accurately Jazz to be a genuine fan but at the same time he wished Jazz would feel that same genuine want for him to stay too. He wanted to be able to capture the thief's heart as Lied, not just his evildol persona Lindy.
Lindy sighed, there's no way this constant influx in her emotions could be good for her health, especially the negative ones. While she doubted she would start her evil cycle over something as silly as this she didn’t exactly want to put it to the test. She could feel her emotions running high and knew it was best to end this interaction as soon as possible.
“Well as much as I would love to keep spending time with such a lovely fan I was supposed to be somewhere five minutes ago…” She trailed off looking at the time to try and make her statement more convincing. “Though if you have something you want signed I can definitely do that for you!! As a thank you since I would have been even more late had you not come up to me.” Lindy sweat dropped as she mentioned the time again to keep her lie believable. She’s glad Keroli actually took the time to train her and Irumi properly as evildols, rule number 28 was to always have at least 3 pens on hand in case you ran into a fan. Because despite what she said the autograph was more of an apology; for leaving so abruptly, for lying.
After signing a piece of paper, Jazz’s arm, and the back of his shirt they parted ways. Lindy apologized again, waving as she left.
Lied practically deflated once he made it outside. He only let himself stop for a second before starting to speed walk towards his house, subtly looking around to make sure Jazz wasn’t near. That was possibly the most embarrassing moment of his life. Lied was stuck in his head replaying the situation over and over when he felt his phone buzz in his pocket. Lied stopped in front of his door to check the message thinking it was Keroli apologizing for never actually showing up or Iruma to plan their next trip to the mall. Instead theres-

Lied just about startled the whole neighborhood with the screech he let out. He’d never rushed to his room faster, it’s official that stupid thief was going to be the death of him, that he was sure of.
