Its time was frozen—perhaps broken. However, that wasn’t what caught her attention.
There was a photograph within it, a person eerily similar to her. Same hair length. Same facial features. Same smile.
There were engravings on the back of the artifact, dating back to five hundred years ago.

When Madelyn’s father passed away, he’d bequeathed her nothing except one of the beloved hourglass he’d collected. Bought when she was born. Structure made of gold, to match the shade of her hairs, and containing sand from the same color of her eyes. Her name engraved on it. She’d found the idea quite ominous, like if there was a countdown timer on her existence. Then, she’d recalled what her father was perpetually saying : once the hourglass is flipped, the sand flows, until things become clearer. Quite sinister, really.
