Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

What was that?
That thing?
What had Dark Enchantress Cookie just done?

The 4 ancient heroes stared in disbelief. Pure Vanilla Cookie shuddered in fear, grasping his staff tight with two hands. The light had been drained from every Souljam… what were they meant to do?

He heard Golden Cheese Cookie draw a shaky, gasping series of breaths beside him. He turned to gaze down at her— she was struggling on her knees, grasping her head in distress.

“Golden Cheese Cookie!” Pure Vanilla Cookie said, immediately kneeling beside her, despite the odd feeling that spread throughout his body as if protesting the movement. He was weaker without the light of truth that resonated within him, but Pure Vanilla Cookie would stop at nothing to help his friends. “Are you alright—?” He questioned, trying to appear calm despite the red skies and roaring laughter from the horror Dark Enchantress Cookie had become.

Golden Cheese Cookie groaned lightly. She turned her head up. “I am alright.. just.. a-agh.. slightly weak..” She offered a faint smile. Pure Vanilla Cookie was not sure, but she insisted on fighting.. they would need all the power they could get, after all.

Pure Vanilla Cookie was already coming back to his senses, adapting to the loss of the extra power he usually possessed. This could not weigh him down. The other ancients also came to, and stood tall despite the danger that was ahead of them.

Hollyberry Cookie raised her shield and stood slightly in-front of the three others, but her hands shook slightly as she looked upon the Eldritch Horror that rose before them. Dark Enchantress Coo— no, no.. that was no cookie. It stood tall, back slightly arched and stumbling off balance. One eye fluttered open in the center of its face, shaped with a sharp jawline, mouth slightly sewn together with flesh.

Or what seems to be flesh.

“My friends, stand back!” Pure vanilla cookie yelled, raising his staff. He swallowed nervously— he felt jam rushing away from his head, and he knew this situation was dire. The beasts were still frozen in silence, their own friend turned against them.

Dark Enchantress stood tall and lengthy, arms dangling at her sides as she cackled through stitched lips. This was not like the first Dark Flour war, no, no.. how were they supposed to beat this? Pure Vanilla Cookie could not be sure. Nothing about this left him feeling confident, but he stood tall despite the panic that settled in his stomach.

“That is not a cookie..” He exclaimed. It was obvious that wasn’t a cookie, perhaps his observation had just rubbed salt in the wound. And the wound was gaping. Perhaps he was just speaking his mind, voicing his fear.

“She has ascended..” Dark Cacao Cookie replied, voice steady. Pure Vanilla did not turn his head. Well, not until he heard a scream. It came from behind them, followed by a symphony of returning noise from multiple recognizable voices. Pure Vanilla Cookie whirled around first, then Hollyberry, then Golden cheese, and finally Dark Cacao.

The spell of silence had been broken.

And nobody knew if this was good or bad.
Pure Vanilla Cookie froze as he took in the sight— was that.. Shadow Milk Cookie on the ground? Was that him who had wailed? It couldn’t have been any other Beast, for Silent Salt Cookie stood above him with his sword in hand.
