Chapter Text
It rested upon a cloud, dreariness dripping over its thoughts as it sighed. The God shifted, unrest so unlike it. It sighed yet again, sitting upwards with a mighty heave. It longed for company, the sugar flies no longer being enough. It craved connection, it yearned for its Other Half. What was a God without its Other Half? But who was its Other Half? The God did not know. It was not for it to know just yet. It yearned to feel that connection. It yearned to simply hold its Other Half, to be there, to ease the ache they clearly felt without it.
The God sighed ever so loudly, lounging back onto the deep pink cloud it rested upon. "Am I to never experience my Other Half?" It said to no one in particular. It's wings, always held high and bright in the sun, drooped off the cloud it lounged on. "Am I to be alone forever?"
The God scoffed, it's soft voice filled with annoyance. "No! I cannot! What is a Paradise if I cannot experience my own joy? I shall find my Other Half, and I shall keep them in my Garden."
With a wave of a clawed hand, a cloud appeared within its grasp. A mirror into the mortal realm. All Gods had an Other Half, this one simply had not found it's yet. A God's Other Half had a draw to them. As they lived, they would be closer and closer to finding the God. And if they died before they could find the God, then they'd simply be reborn and the cycle would start all over again. The God had yet to meet it's Other Half. It'd been years, centuries even, and it was no closer to feeling that tug on it's heart than it ever had been. It was tiresome, the pull and leave of yearning and desperately trying to find.
It had taken mortals off the common streets time and time again, testing them to see if they were a possible match. Hoping that one would tug, and yet they all snapped the strings it attempted to bind. It was hopeless. It had been content for some time without it's Other Half, but it just couldn't keep living like this. So empty. So incomplete. What punishment was it to be left without its Other Half. What had it done to be forced into a life so dreary. The God stared into the mirror, surveying it's mortal domain with critical eyes. So many candidates, yet none pulled at its heart as they should.
It zoomed into a few, watching with an intense stare that'd be almost suffocating for anyone. "Too aggressive." It commented about a man who held a tight posture and a furrowed brow, whom was scolding a woman dressed high in golden jewelry. "Too mousy." "Too loud!" "Oh my, so much passion.. But not enough for me."
The God was about ready to give up. None of these mortals seemed perfect enough for it. It was ready to give up when it heard a voice, or more specifically, a laugh. It sounded so.. intense.
It settled upon a mousy haired man in a black leather jacket, a smug grin on his face as he rattled around a can of red spray paint. With a few flicks of his wrist he’d written a simple message… a bit abhorrent and much too vile for a mortal to ever hold in their heart, but it was artistically done, that was for sure.
That tug. That tug on it's heart as it stared at the mortal man. Could this be it's Other Half? Surely not, it thought as it stared at the mans handiwork. So vulgar. So hateful. It could not imagine being bonded to someone so.. sad. Maybe this is for a reason. Someone so vulgar musn't be happy. That's what the God's mind rationalized as it watched him move with such practiced ease. The God decided then that it'd grab the mortal and test him. If he were truly its Other Half, then there must be a reason of why he was so cruel. The God was a fair being, even if it's Other Half turned out to be needlessly cruel, that would not discourage it from loving it's Other Half. A God is not to be picky, despite, well, how picky most God's were.
The God was eager to meet it's Other Half, eager to hear his voice, to feel his delicate mortal skin, to taste his very essence. The God squirmed with excitement, enlarging the mirror as it sat up. The sugar flies swirled around the cloud mirror, singing their melodies of praise and joy to see their creator and God oh so happy. "Soon, my dear flies, soon my Other Half shall be here!" It sang along, its wings, which were a light sugary pink, spread out. A third eye opened upon its forehead, the mirror trembling slightly. A giant mouth opened under the man in the mirror, which frightened him as he desperately tried to claw his way out of the mouth as it swallowed him whole.
He screamed all the way down, entering the Paradise with a loud scream of, "HELP, THE FLOOR IS EATING ME!"
The Sugar Flies swarmed him in an instant, carrying him down to a cloud platform that hovered just in front of the God's face. "My Darling! You are finally here. Welcome to my Garden of Paradise. I have missed you so dearly." The God purred, staring with hooded eyes that showed so much more love than expected for a God wanting to test a mortal. "I have been expecting you for so long.. Please, don't leave me again."
