Early Morning Lie-In

Summary:

Fluffbruary 2026 Day 15: Indulgence/Nest

Eddie does not want to get out of bed.

Work Text:

Buck was never rough with him, and this morning was no different as he smoothed his hand down Eddie’s back slowly and methodically in an attempt to wake him up. They had no need to be up that morning. Chris was away at a summer robotics camp, so they did not need to be awake for him either. Sadly, Buck was a morning person and not always able to stay in their nest in the morning. His fidgeting could get bad enough that the bed moved, so he got out of bed before that happened, though he always made sure to see if Eddie wanted to join him.

“Sleeping in?” he asked quietly, leaning in close enough that his breath ghosted across his ear.

He refused to open his eyes even as his mouth twitched. Buck was always a sweetheart, indulging him in little ways that added up to love he had yet to voice but made apparent in every other way. It was understandable considering his history, and Eddie had never held it against him. He understood actions better than words anyway with the way his parents had treated him growing up, their words saying one thing, but their actions showing the opposite. Eddie was quite willing to wait until Buck felt comfortable enough to put it into words.

“Just a bit,” he murmured in reply, voice muffled in one of the many pillows on the bed.

Buck purred softly, apparently proud of the fact that he was finding such comfort in a nest he had built. It prompted a rumble from his own chest that he was always surprised to hear after the way that his parents had drilled the fact into him that proper alphas never produced such a sound. That he now allowed them freely without embarrassment or self-flagellation was testament to the progress he had made with his, hopefully, soon-to-be mate. He had plans to ask soon and was happily anticipating the night he had planned.

“I’ll make breakfast. Do you want pancakes or huevos rancheros?”

“Love your huevos rancheros,” he replied, stretching up into Buck’s hand that had not stopped moving along his spine. It was such a comfort and kept him both from sleeping and from waking up all the way.

Buck hummed a long note before leaning forward and pressing a kiss to his temple and then carefully climbed out of bed, making sure that their nest stayed intact. “I’ll come get you when I’m finished.”

He just hummed in reply, letting himself drift, though not sleep, for the time being. It would not take Buck too long to get breakfast and coffee ready, but any extra bit of rest he could get made him inordinately happy, and Buck indulged him whenever he could. They did not have plans for the day, it was not a work day, and they had an empty house. There was time for them to do whatever they wanted, and while they could spend the day in bed, they had already done so yesterday, and Buck would be restless if they did not actually do something. Maybe they could work on one of the projects Buck had come up with and then head out for some time spent at an escape room. He had been talking about them for the past several weeks, and, while they did not hold a lot of interest for him, he would enjoy himself as long as Buck did, and Buck would enjoy anything that stretched his brain. He could indulge his soon-to-be mate with something he would like, just like Buck did small things that made his life better.
