Since Rose announced her relationship with Shane just last night, she felt as if her life has been swept up in a whirlwind. They received so many invitations as a couple in a single day than their individual solo careers. Rose was excited to attend them all, because convincing Shane seemed like it was going to be a challenge.
When Rose reached for her phone to call her boyfriend and ask him which events he was willing to consider attending, she found a text message from an unfamiliar number.

The next day, Rose decided that she will, in fact, call Hayden. He’s Shane’s closest friend and would know about this girl. Mainly if she existed as Shane’s girlfriend or not. After three very long rings, he answered.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Hayden.” Rose said into her phone. “It’s Rose,”
“Rose? Like Rose Landry? Are you okay? Is Shane okay?” Hayden started worrying. Shane did say he was a dad.
“Yeah, Rose Landry. Yeah, we’re okay… well kind of.” God, what was she doing? This was just embarrassing.
“Kind of?”
“It’s why I’m calling,” Just out with it, Rose! “This is going to sound very weird. But did Shane have an ex-girlfriend?”
“No,” Hayden replied with a light laugh. “He didn’t.”
Rose let out a sigh of relief. So the girl was just a crazed stalker which meant Rose needed a new phone number and Shane needed a possible restraining order.
“But he did have this fling with a Boston girl named Lily for a while.” Hayden continued. “It wasn’t official or anything. Just casual.”
“So, not a girlfriend.” Please say No. Please say no. Hayden confirming her name hurt enough. Everything else can’t be true.
“Not to him, but to everyone else who knew about Lily 100% considered her his girl.” Hayden rambled on. “They’d hook up every time we played in Boston.”
“Oh..” She felt herself deflate. “Every time?”
“Yeah, it became a running joke.” Hayden cleared his throat. “Not that, uh, you have to like, um, worry about her. He’s crazy about you. Totally.”
“Right.” Rose wished she never called Hayden. Wished she never spoke to Lily. Rose should’ve blocked her from day one. “I gotta go.”
