Work Text:

His left palm settles upon chilled bedsheets and that causes a frown to tug at the corners of his mouth. A moment passes before his eyes flutter open, and his heart aches upon the realisation that he is alone.

As the sun begins to rise beyond the room’s window, Wooyoung slowly sits up and allows for the sheets of his bed to pool around his waist. A quiet yawn leaves the back of his throat, his mind is already busy with thoughts of where San could possibly be.

Wooyoung moves off of his bed and collects one of San’s hoodies from the floor. It’s rich in both comfort and his scent. The hoodie is a purple one San wears more often than not, especially in the colder months.

Which is why it’s a little odd that he’s not wearing it right now, wherever he may be.

Wooyoung cannot hear anything out of the ordinary. The humming of electricity is in the air and so is the rumbling of the occasional car engine. The only thing he can smell is, well, San and so their usual morning meal is not being prepared.

Collecting his phone from the dressing table with his right hand, he slowly pulls their bedroom door open with his left. The bathroom opposite is empty, and so is the one a little further down the hall.

A small ball of concern is building in the very base of his tummy. He supposes, realistically, there is still a good chance that San could be either in the study or downstairs.

He decides to check in on their pup before continuing forward with his search for San. Soojin is a little over two months old now, and she’s still as content as she had been when newborn. She watches the world go by with such awe in her eyes, and her most favourite Uncle is Yeosang.

Recently they have found her new favourite Nursery Rhyme, which isn’t even a Nursery Rhyme at all. She is fond of their song Star 1117, she will fall asleep to it with a smile on her face in a matter of seconds.

Pushing open Soojin’s bedroom door, which is always left slightly open anyway, Wooyoung’s two eyes are drawn to the ceiling where her night light projects a series of stars and a singular moon.

The moon remains on the ceiling but the stars swap their positions, fading in and out of view as they do so. The drawn curtain means that her room is dark enough for the night light itself to still be somewhat effective.

Wooyoung’s gaze moves down to where their pup’s crib is. His smile is fond, his heart is warm. Soojin is fast asleep at the moment, her tiny right hand curled into a loose fist. Her face is relaxed, her expression peaceful. Her chest rises and falls with ease.

And then he sees it- or, rather, properly registers it.

There is nothing but adoration within his eyes. San is lying on his left side, facing their little girl’s crib, also seemingly fast asleep. His knees are ever so slightly bent, he is wearing the short sleeve t-shirt, jogging bottoms, and pair of socks he’d gone to bed in the night before.

The likelihood of San being even a little comfortable right now is slim to none, but waking his mate right now simply isn’t an option. Wooyoung lifts his phone, unlocking it in the process with his Face ID.

He takes a photo of his little family, his bright smile growing and the love he has in his heart for these two tripling- he didn’t even know that was possible.

Wooyoung’s mobile phone goes into the right pocket of his own jogging bottoms, and he simply continues to stand in the doorway so that he can admire both his mate and the life they had created together.

San had been waiting in the hallway while Wooyoung took two separate pregnancy tests just in case one gave a false result. Both of them had been in floods of joyous tears when both of the tests turned out to be positive.

They had discussed starting a family, they just didn’t realise it would happen straight away. All it took was once synced cycle for Wooyoung to fall pregnant with Soojin.

Soojin hums quietly in her sleep, her face contorts a little as she stretches out but then it relaxes again, pretty much straight away, once she’s fallen back into her deep sleep.

The idea of San not being comfortable comes back to the front of his mind, and so he slowly walks towards the Alpha lying on the carpeted floor. He kneels at his lover’s side.

”Sannie,” he whispers gently, bringing his left hand down to move some falling strands of hair away from his Alpha’s eyes, “Sannie, sweetheart-”

He doesn’t get much of a reply, just a little pout that makes him chuckle fondly.

San,” he tries again, a little sterner this time, “come on, love, it’s time to wake up.”

But still San does not wake. His knees bend ever so slightly more, his body is somewhat of a ball shape now.

Wooyoung sighs quietly as he looks up at their child, not entirely ready to accept his defeat yet. He could leave San until the moment he wakes up naturally, but-

A quiet voice captures his attention, “Wooyoung?”

Looking back down, the Omega smiles fondly, “good morning, Sannie. I didn’t realise the two of you were having a sleepover.”

San hums small, leaning into the hand that settles against the right side of his face. Wooyoung uses his thumb to caress along his Alpha’s cheekbone.

“This floor cannot be more comfortable than our bed, surely. You could’ve brought her in with us instead of sleeping down here.”

They have a spare crib in their bedroom for Soojin if she ever needs to spend the night close. They have not had to use the crib yet, but if she falls unwell or something along those lines, they don’t particularly want her to be alone.

”Sorry,” San mumbles quietly, “didn’t want to disturb her or you.”

”It’s alright,” Wooyoung tells him honestly. He then asks, “what are you doing in here, anyway?”

Sitting up slowly, San feels Wooyoung’s left hand fall from his face. “She, um, she woke up crying and it took quite a bit of time to get her to settle again.”

Wooyoung’s face falls, “oh.”

”She had a nightmare, I think. After I calmed Soojin down and she fell back to sleep, I thought that if she woke up again and was all alone she might get even more scared. So I- I decided to stay with her.”

Wooyoung’s heart melts.

“I did think about bringing her back to our bedroom, but I’d already put her in the crib and so didn’t want to risk disturbing her.”

Oh, Sannie-

”I’m so sorry you had to wake up alone, love, I know you don’t-”

”No,” Wooyoung shakes his head quickly, “no, don’t apologise.”

“But-”

”San, you slept in our baby girls room because she had a nightmare,” Wooyoung blinks back threatening tears, “that’s so sweet of you.”

San tilts his head to the side.

”You are the most perfect Daddy to our Soojin,” the Omega tells him, “I’m so thankful she has you, that we have you.”

Because there was a time, when Wooyoung had just officially become five months pregnant, in which San was beginning to debate within his own mind as to whether or not he’d actually be a good parent.

Wooyoung had awoken feeling a heavy weight on his shoulders, and that weight only doubled when he’d realised he was alone.

He spent ages searching around their home for his slightly older mate, eventually finding him coming in from their back garden. San had looked cold, his two eyes red and skin a shade paler than what it should have been. The sight broke Wooyoung’s heart, and that showed on his face despite his attempts to not let it do so.

Wooyoung had greeted him quietly, San had greeted the younger in the same way and had even asked if everything was alright despite the fact that probably should’ve been Wooyoung’s question.

”I’m okay,” is what the Omega had said with a small nod of his head. He had swiftly added, “but the bed is cold without you. We missed you.”

The usage of the pronoun ‘we’ is what caused San’s tears to return, falling steadily and deepening the concern Wooyoung felt a great amount. It had taken some time, but eventually San calmed down enough to explain what was wrong.

Sitting on one of the sofas in the lounge, their hands closely entwined and their respective left and right shoulders pressed together, San opened up about his worries and all that was happening within his mind. Wooyoung listened, offering comforting actions and words throughout.

San’s eyes sparkle, “you really think so?”

”I know so,” Wooyoung tells him with a smile, “I’ve always been so lucky to have you, Sannie. You’re so good with her, just like how I always knew you would be.”

“There’s not anyone else in the world I’d rather start a family with,” is just one of the many truthful things Wooyoung had said when comforting his Alpha.

San feels the centre of his face heat up, the Omega leans in to place a gentle kiss to his lips.

”I love you,” Wooyoung tells him, “so much. We both do. You take such good care of us, sweetheart, thank you.”

Oh, my love,” San holds Wooyoung’s face in his left hand, “for you two, I would do absolutely anything.”

His heart is impossibly full.

”I love you too,” San quickly adds, “the both of you, more than anything else.”

Wooyoung smiles, San smiles back. Their lips are sealed in a quick kiss.

”Would you like to stand up? Surely your back must be hurting.”

”It’s actually not too bad,” San says, “but standing does sound nice. I can’t feel my legs all too well at the moment, though.”

Wooyoung chuckles, kissing his partner once again. He pushes himself into a standing position and then offers his hands for the older to take. San does.

The Omega giggles quietly when San’s two arms curl around his waist. The Alpha bumps the tips of their noses together and then a third presence decides to make itself known.

Soojin is staring at them, a little smile is on her face.

Hi, baby,” Wooyoung greets her softly, accepting the kiss San places to the left side of his head, “did you have better dreams with Daddy here?”

Of course, she isn’t able to reply properly. Instead, she brings her right hand up to her mouth and starts chewing on her fingers. She doesn’t have any teeth yet.

“Maybe she can, um, sleep in the crib we have in our room tonight,” San suggests, “just- just in case.”

Wooyoung looks back at him, his eyes fond and both hands curled around San’s elbows. “That sounds like a lovely idea to me.”

San smiles, Wooyoung falls in love all over again. He really did get so lucky. San had been so very shy, so hesitant, when presenting him with the first official courting gift- Wooyoung had found it so endearing.

The two of them, of course due to Ateez, had been incredibly close already. San had just taken a lot of time to make sure that Wooyoung did feel the same way as he did before actually approaching him about becoming a pair.

Wooyoung had accepted the gift in an instant, over the moon happy that they wanted each other in the same exact way. The two of them, it turns out, had been silently longing for each other since the day they first met as teenagers.

The two separate, having been lost in each other’s eyes, when their daughter hiccups quietly. Soojin is watching them with watery eyes, wondering why she has not been picked up yet. She loves cuddles from her Papa and Daddy so much!

San takes a step back from Wooyoung and makes his way over to their baby with a smile. He picks her up with ease, and places a kiss to her forehead. The girl watches him in awe.

Wooyoung wanders over too, settling his chin on to San’s left shoulder. Their pup is cradled close to the Alpha, resting so comfortably and safely in his bent arms. Wooyoung uses the index finger of his left hand to carefully caress along her head.

San doesn’t take his eyes away from their daughter when he says, “thank you.”

Wooyoung, amused, questions, “are you talking to me or her?”

”You,” San replies.

Wooyoung hums, reaching behind San to settle his right hand on San’s right hip. “May I ask why you are thanking me?”

San nods and then says, “thank you for carrying her and keeping her safe for nine months. Thank you so much, my love, for bringing our daughter to us.”

Oh, Sannie-”

“I actually don’t think there’s ever going to be a time in which I have thanked you enough for what you’ve done. Because of you, we have our little girl, and I- I love you, Wooyoung, so much. She’s perfect, you are perfect.”

Wooyoung’s body is on fire in the best way possible, his heart practically singing due to the praise. But still he acknowledges…

”It took the both of us to create her life, Sannie-”

”Yeah, but- you did the harder bit, you know?”

”Maybe so,” Wooyoung hums, “but I couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you for making the nine months, and the birth itself, as comfortable as they could be. You were perfect, Alpha, through it all.”

Soojin looks between her parents, and then chews on her fingers once again.

”It’s an honour, San, to be your Omega. It was an honour to carry our pup, and it will be an honour to carry any more.”

San chuckles, “more?”

”Maybe,” Wooyoung says, “we’ll see.”

San places a kiss to Wooyoung’s right temple. He whispers to him, “I love you.”

”I love you too,” is the quiet response, “thank you for choosing me to share your life with.”

As the Omega lifts his head and turns to join their gazes, San brings their daughter impossibly closer.

”Thank you for choosing me too,” is how the Alpha responds.

Wooyoung leans in for another kiss, but their pup coughs lightly in San’s arms and then begins to chew on her hand again. They both look down at her.

An amused, from San, ”time for breakfast, I think.”

”Do you mind-”

”Not at all,” San shakes his head, “I can get her a bottle ready. I’ll sort something for us afterwards.”

”Wonderful,” Wooyoung smiles, “thank you.”

San nods as a reply and then Soojin is very carefully passed from Daddy to Papa. San leans down to place a kiss to her small forehead, she giggles sweetly and reaches for him as he pulls backwards in order to do the same action on Wooyoung’s forehead.

“I’ll change her and then meet you downstairs?”

”Alright,” San nods, “just let me know if you need anything?”

”I will, sweetheart, thank you.”

”Of course,” San places one last kiss to his mate’s lips before leaving the room and heading downstairs.

Wooyoung watches him leave with a bright smile. Soojin giggles again, smiling too, in his arms and his heart practically explodes. Her audible happiness is a sound he will never get tired of hearing. He looks at the pup in his protective hold.

”Look at those little dimples,” Wooyoung smiles down at her adoringly, “you look just like your Daddy, huh? Soojin, my little Sannie.”

Soojin smiles up and reaches for him. Wooyoung lets the infant pup curl her entire little fist around his left index finger.

”My angel,” Wooyoung begins a quiet promise to her, “you will always be so, so loved by us all.”
