Hello, lovely readers. Sorry not the fic yet. I thought it might be useful to have a bunch of the nautical terms I use without a specific definition directly in the fic here for those of you who might not know what they are and also don’t want to google it. I just sort of updated this as I wrote so it may be missing stuff but I know y’all aren’t here for a sailing lesson so who gaf really. Hope you all enjoy <333333
Also, if you're curious, Rebecca's boat is mostly modelled after a Bali 4.4 3-cabin layout but bigger so if you're curious as to the kind of vibe it might look like you can see it here
SAILING TERMINOLOGY GLOSSARY:
Mast: vertical metal in the center of the boat.
Tiller: lever used to steer a boat (on motors, they also have the throttle)
Head: on board bathrooms/toilets
Mooring ball: a permanently fixed buoy used to tie off to as an alternative to anchoring.
Hull: the “boat” part of the boat, aka sides and bottom. This boat is a catamaran and therefore has two hulls.
Galley: kitchen
Stern: back of the boat
Bow: front of the boat
Port: left side of the boat while facing the bow
Starboard: right side of the boat while facing the bow
Flybridge: Elevated deck above the salon where the helm/wheel is
Helm: where all the boat controls are, throttles, winches, wheel, etc.
Jib/Genoa: Smaller sail at the front of the boat
Main Sail: Large sail attached to mast
Spinnaker/Kite: Large, oftentimes colourful, light sail used for sailing downwind.
