Work Text:
Last time, Tommy, Ian and Boco went trainspotting, while Snoopy and Woodstock tagged along to find trains of their own, only to be fantasising themselves driving trains. As Snoopy and Woodstock returned at the very same time as Charlie Brown and Heather did, Sally came from the backyard to exchange her own news.
"Big Brother! Snoopy! Woodstock!" Sally clamoured.
"What is it, Sally?" Asked Charlie Brown.
"Something rather unusual has happened!" Answered Sally.
"What sort of something?" Asked Charlie Brown.
"Come around and find out!" Sally added.
Sally, Charlie Brown, Snoopy and Woodstock went into the backyard to see what it was all about. Sally went up the tree and picked up Woodstock's nest, much to Woodstock's fear, remembering when Sally took his nest once, thinking it was an old one.
"There are some strange rocks in this nest." Said Sally.
"Rocks?" Quizzed Charlie Brown.
"And they look like footballs." Sally added.
Indeed there were. Three oval-shaped objects resembling stones. Woodstock was worried. What if someone was trying to pelt his nest with rocks?
"We have to tell someone about these." Said Sally.
Sally, Charlie Brown and Snoopy left with the nest, leaving Woodstock pouting. Snoopy came back to ask Woodstock if he was coming.
"Hmmm…." Pondered Woodstock. "Okay!"
And Woodstock flew behind.
Charlie Brown, Sally, Snoopy and Woodstock arrived at Marty's house and asked him to inspect the rock-like objects in the nest.
"Marty." Said Charlie Brown. "Could you please tell us what kind of rocks these are in this nest?"
"These aren't rocks, Charles." Said Marty.
"Not rocks?" Quizzed Charlie Brown.
"These are actually eggs." Explained Marty.
"Eggs?!" Cried Sally.
"I wonder who could've laid them?" Pondered Charlie Brown.
They all turned to Woodstock, who had caught up with them. Woodstock shook his head.
"Then….. Tammy!"
Charlie Brown, Sally, Snoopy and Woodstock all returned home to find Tammy to ask her about the eggs. When Tammy flew down, she was most surprised.
"Ih? Ih ih ih ih ih?" Woodstock asked Tammy.
Tammy chattered in her own voice, sat on one of the eggs, explaining that she must've laid them.
"Hmm….." Pondered Woodstock. "Yay!"
"What exactly did Woodstock mean by 'Yay'?" Asked Sally.
"I think Tammy was trying to tell him they were eggs which he helped with her, and he is cheering because this means he's going to be a father soon." Charlie Brown explained.
"Hey?" Snoopy asked.
Woodstock flew down cheerfully and Snoopy hugged his avian friend, congratulating him on becoming a soon-to-be father.
"This we have to tell the others!" Sally said.
The following day at Sparkyville High School, Charlie Brown told his friends all about Woodstock and Tammy's eggs.
"So Woodstock is going to be a father soon, is he?" Said Linus.
"That's what Tammy told him." Said Charlie Brown. "And Woodstock seems really excited about it. Reminds me of when I became a big brother."
Linus turned to Lucy.
"You didn't act like this when you heard you were going to be a big sister." Linus explained to Lucy.
"I acted the same way when I found out I was going to become a sister." Said Heather.
"So who wants to see Woodstock and Tammy's eggs later?" Asked Charlie Brown.
"Alright! Simmer down, everyone!" Called Dena.
"Yes, Dena!" Everyone called as they turned their attention to her.
"So what's this about eggs?" Asked Dena.
"Woodstock's going to become a father soon." Said Tommy. "Charlie was just explaining about them."
"Woodstock? Do you mean the peace festival?" Asked Dena.
"No!" Laughed Tommy. "He's Snoopy's little bird friend."
"Charlie Brown was explaining about how Woodstock's mate Tammy had laid some eggs, showing he would become a father soon." Schroeder explained.
"There'll be more egg talk later." Said Dena. "Don't you have your classes to go to?"
"Good grief, you're right!" Cried Charlie Brown. "Best get to Math class now."
At Sparkyville Middle School, Sally was talking all about Woodstock and Tammy's eggs.
"Woodstock? Do you mean Snoopy's friend?" Asked Harold Angel.
"The very same." Said Sally. "His mate had laid some eggs in their nest, so this means they'll be parents soon."
"I feel so happy for Woodstock!" Said Mimi. "So happy, I could sing!"
"Sing for them when they hatch, Mimi." Said Sally. "We have class to go to soon."
"Maybe they'd like to be part of my own merchandising for eggs?" Suggested Tapioca Pudding. "They could make a good breakfast too."
"For your information, Tapioca Pudding," Sally retorted. "These eggs are for hatching, not for eating!"
"Perhaps the eggs contain angels?" Pondered Harold Angel.
"Woodstock is a bird, so of course they can fly, but they wouldn't be angels." Sally corrected.
"Dinosaurs, maybe?" Pondered Russell.
"Dinosaurs?" Quivered Eudora. "I don't want them to eat me!"
"Don't worry, Eudora!" Assured Sally. "These won't be the dinosaurs that existed all those years ago!"
"I sure hope not." Said Eudora.
"You can come and see them when they're about to hatch?" Suggested Sally. "Then you can see they're not out to eat you."
Meanwhile, back at the Browns' house, Woodstock thought and thought about his and Tammy's eggs. He ought to tell his friends all about them.
"Ah ha!"
Woodstock flew away from his nest, leaving Tammy to look after the eggs. Tammy waved a worried farewell to him. Woodstock arrived at a birdhouse where Bill and Harriet lived. Woodstock informed them about his eggs.
"Yay!" Cheered Bill and Harriet.
"He he!" Woodstock chuckled.
Woodstock then flew over to Raymond's birdhouse to let him know all about his and Tammy's eggs.
"Ah ha!" Cheered Raymond.
Woodstock flew back home, leaving Bill, Harriet and Raymond to inform Conrad, Fred, Roy and Olivier about Woodstock's eggs. When Woodstock arrived back at his nest, he was surprised to see Harriet had gone missing.
"Huh?" Said Woodstock, scratching his head.
Tammy had gone to Firdo's nest to inform him that he was going to become an uncle soon
"Hooray!" Cheered Firdo.
"He he!" Said Tammy.
Tammy flew back home to tell Woodstock who she had told. When he saw Tammy come back, Woodstock cheered. Tammy then explained where she had gone.
"Oh!" Said Woodstock, now realising.
Woodstock and Tammy held each other's wings, all knowing that their friends and family had found out about their eggs. Except…..
"Hmm….." Woodstock sighed, remembering.
"Huh?" Said Tammy, eyeing Woodstock's frown.
Woodstock informed Tammy to fly with her to find his mother and inform her she was going to be a grandmother soon.
"Okay." Said Tammy.
Woodstock and Tammy informed Snoopy that they were going far away to inform Woodstock's mother about her upcoming grandchildren.
"Mm hm." Said Snoopy, giving a thumbs up.
"Yay!" Woodstock and Tammy cheered as they flew away.
Snoopy went up to Woodstock's nest to pick it up and bring it into his and Fifi's house.
"Huh?" Said Fifi as she saw Snoopy with the nest.
Snoopy informed her that the eggs inside were Woodstock and Tammy's, and that Woodstock and Tammy were going far away to inform Woodstock's mother.
"Ah ha!" Said Fifi.
Snoopy's pups came down to see what their father was carrying.
"Huh?" Said Snoopy II.
Snoopy explained the eggs belonged to his best friend and his girlfriend, and that they would be hatching soon.
"Wow!" Said Snoopy's pups in unison.
Snoopy brought the eggs and nest up to his room and promised to keep them company until they hatched, or at the very least until Woodstock had returned.
"Ah…." Snoopy sighed.
Fifi walked up to hers and her husband's room and saw Snoopy and the eggs.
"Oh!" Said Fifi, realising Snoopy was watching the eggs.
"Mm hm." Said Snoopy.
Fifi then looked away, wondering how Woodstock and Tammy were going on their journey.
In the countryside, Woodstock and Tammy had made it to the forest and decided to make a rest stop.
"Phew!" Remarked Woodstock in exhaustion.
Tammy suggested they set up camp here and continue their quest to find Woodstock's mother in the morning.
"Okay!" Said Woodstock.
Back at Sparkyville, it was home time, and Lucy and Sebastian were on their way to Charlie Brown's house to see the eggs Woodstock's girlfriend had laid.
"So Charlie Brown says they're eggs." Lucy explained. "And Woodstock is excited about becoming a father."
Violet and Patty Swanson were making their way to Charlie Brown's house for the eggs.
"And to think Charlie Brown and Sally thought they were rocks at first!" Remarked Violet.
"I guess Charlie Brown still has a bit of blockhead in him!" Chuckled Patty Swanson.
"I can't wait to see what the babies will look like when they hatch." Said Janice to Linus.
"I'm pretty sure they'll look like Woodstock and Tammy." Assured Linus.
Soon, the entire gang arrived at the Browns' house to find…..
"Hey! Where's the nest?" Lucy demanded.
"And to think we came all the way here for nothing!" Grumbled Violet.
"Charlie Brown said there'd be a nest full of eggs here!" Added Patty Swanson.
Peppermint Patty, Franklin, Marcie and Roy arrived to see the commotion.
"What's going on here?" Cried Peppermint Patty.
"They're talking about Woodstock's eggs, Sir." Said Marcie.
"I know, but the eggs shouldn't be born yet!" Explained Peppermint Patty.
Charlie Brown and Sally came outside to see what was going on.
"What is everyone doing here?" Demanded Charlie Brown.
"We've come to see Woodstock's eggs," said Lucy.
"But they have somehow vanished, along with the eggs!" Added Violet.
"I'm sure they are up there…." Charlie Brown began. "They must be up in that…."
Charlie Brown was most surprised to see an empty tree.
"Good grief, you're right!" Exclaimed Charlie Brown. "The tree is bare!"
Everyone turned to Sally, remembering she was the one who had taken Woodstock's nest once, thinking it was a dinosaur nest.
"Don't look at me! I hadn't touched it since yesterday!" Sally retorted.
"Then where could it have gone?" Pondered Harold Angel.
Snoopy looked outside, surprised to see everybody there.
"Uh oh." Snoopy sighed.
Snoopy went outside with the eggs in the nest to explain.
"You stole those eggs, Beagle?" Demanded Lucy.
Snoopy shook his head, and then explained in his own gestures, and where Woodstock and Tammy had gone.
"So they're out, visiting Woodstock's mother to inform her the news?" Asked Charlie Brown.
Snoopy nodded.
"That's very thoughtful of you, Snoopy." Said Patty Swanson. "Look after your friend's eggs while they're gone."
"I have a neat idea." Said Charlie Brown. "Why don't we take it in turns to look after Woodstock and Tammy's eggs until they come back?"
"That sounds like a….. great idea!" Said Lucy.
"So who wants to look after these eggs tonight?" Asked Charlie Brown.
There was a long silence.
"I will." Came a voice.
The voice belonged to Heather Wold, the Little Red-Haired Girl.
"Okay, Heather." Said Charlie Brown as he handed the nest to Heather.
"Thank you, Charlie Brown." Said Heather.
"Don't thank me." Said Charlie Brown. "Thank Snoopy. These eggs are of his best friend and his sweetheart."
"Thank you, Snoopy." Said Heather.
Back in the forest, Woodstock and Tammy were enjoying their campout. They roasted mini marshmallows and enjoyed them one by one. But all the same, they thought about Snoopy looking after their eggs.
"Oh….." Sighed Woodstock.
"Huh?" Asked Tammy.
Woodstock explained in his own scratches that he was thinking about Snoopy and their eggs. Tammy nodded.
After a nice meal of marshmallows, Woodstock and Tammy got out leaves, using them as makeshift sleeping bags, and went to sleep, promising to find Woodstock's mother and inform her about the eggs.
But little did they know that Snoopy wasn't looking after Woodstock and Tammy's eggs, but Heather was. As Heather brought the nest of eggs into her home, Henry waddled up.
"Hey, Big Sister." Said Henry. "Whatcha got?"
"This is a nest." Said Heather. "And look!" There are eggs inside."
Henry took a peak in.
"Nice, Big Sister!" Said Henry. "Whose eggs are those?"
"These are Woodstock and Tammy's eggs." Said Heather. "And Charlie Brown had asked me and all our other friends to look after them until they hatch."
"What's this about eggs?" Came a voice.
The voice belonged to Al, Heather's father.
"Oh. Hi, Dad." Said Heather. "These are Woodstock and Tammy's eggs, and I'm looking after them until Woodstock and Tammy come back. Or at the very least until they hatch."
"That's very nice of you, Heather." Said Al.
The next day, Woodstock and Tammy took up and continued their journey to find Woodstock's mother.
"Phew!" Remarked Tammy.
It took them all day to return to Woodstock's mother's nest. But as soon as they arrived, all they could find was an empty nest.
"Aw….." Sighed Woodstock.
Tammy eyed Woodstock's long face and comforted him.
Woodstock felt very sad, so he and Tammy decided to pack up and go home.
Back at Sparkyville, during lunch time, Heather was talking to Mary Stewart.
"So Mary." Said Heather. "Would you like to look after Woodstock and Tammy's eggs tonight?"
"I don't know." Said Mary Stewart. "I'm worried that Matilda will tip the nest over and break the eggs. Maybe Schroeder could look after them."
"That sounds like a lovely idea, Mary." Said Heather.
So that afternoon after school, Heather and Mary Stewart went over to Heather's house so Heather could hand her best friend the eggs in the nest. Mary Stewart went over to Schroeder's house with the nest. There was Schroeder, playing his piano.
"Hi, Schroeder." Said Mary Stewart. "So whatcha doin'?"
"I'm playing one of Beethoven's Sonatas." Said Schroeder.
"Do you think Woodstock's children will like Beethoven music?" Asked Mary Stewart.
"Maybe." Said Schroeder. "Perhaps they'll like this?"
So Schroeder played Fur Elise, as Mary Stewart listened with intent. She put her head on Schroeder's shoulder, sighing lovingly.
After Schroeder had finished, Mary Stewart left Schroeder's place.
"Take care of the eggs." Said Mary Stewart.
"I will." Said Schroeder.
Schroeder went back to his piano and played another Beethoven song.
"And this one is for you, eggs." Schroeder announced.
Meanwhile, Heather had gone over to Charlie Brown's house.
"So who's looking after Woodstock and Tammy's eggs tonight?" Asked Charlie Brown.
"I wanted Mary to look after them," said Heather. "But because of her worries, she asked Schroeder to look after them."
"Good old Schroeder." Said Charlie Brown. "Yes Sir. Good old Schroeder."
Woodstock and Tammy decided to have another camp out that night, and agreed to return to Sparkyville tomorrow morning. Woodstock was still sad that his mother wasn't in her nest anymore, but he was still looking forward to becoming a father.
"Ah…." Sighed Woodstock as he went to sleep.
The next morning, Schroeder had woken up, and much to his surprise, he noticed one of the eggs move.
"Good grief!" Cried Schroeder. "Is this what I think it is?"
"What is it, Schroeder?" Asked Sheryl, Schroeder's mother.
"Mom! You'll never believe this, but one of these eggs moved!" Schroeder exclaimed.
"Oh my goodness! They're about to hatch!" Cried Sheryl. "This I have to tell someone!"
"Take them back to Charlie Brown's house." Said Schroeder. "I'm going to school."
Charlie Brown, Sally and Wally were getting ready for school when Sheryl came over, much to their surprise.
"Oh. Hi, Mrs. Klein." Said Charlie Brown. "And what are you doing with the nest?"
"You'll never believe this, Charlie!" Said Sheryl. "But Schroeder informed me that he saw one of them move!"
"Good grief! Don't tell me…." Charlie Brown said excitedly. "Well, put it in the empty tree in the backyard."
Sheryl went into the backyard and placed the nest of eggs into the tree for all to see.
"Woodstock will be most surprised when he gets home." Said Sally. "He'll be a father any minute now! Come on, Brothers. Let's go."
As Charlie Brown, Sally and Wally left, Woodstock and Tammy arrived home. They were relieved to be home.
"Ah…." Sighed Woodstock as he and Tammy settled back in their nest.
Suddenly, Woodstock felt movement.
"Oh!" Cried Woodstock as he jumped up.
Tammy examined the egg Woodstock was sitting on and saw it wiggle.
"Ih hee!" Cheered Tammy, knowing what this meant.
Snoopy came out to see the commotion.
"Hey!" Called Snoopy as he saw Woodstock and Tammy.
"Hey!" Woodstock and Tammy called back.
Woodstock and Tammy flew down and they hugged Snoopy, who hugged them back. Woodstock informed Snoopy that one of the eggs began to move.
"Yay!" Snoopy cheered, knowing what this meant.
At Sparkyville High, Charlie Brown explained to Schroeder what his mother told him.
"So as your mom told us, you saw one of the eggs begin to move." Charlie Brown said.
"I did." Said Schroeder.
"So this means….. Woodstock and Tammy will become parents any minute now!" Charlie Brown exclaimed.
"This I have to see!" Said Peppermint Patty.
"Let's all go and see." Said Percy. "But after class."
That afternoon, everyone went over to Charlie Brown's house to see how the eggs were going.
"Have the eggs hatched yet?" Asked Katie.
Woodstock shook his head, but explained in his scratching voice that one of them began to move.
"So they are about to hatch!" Said Rerun.
"So that's why we're here." Said Lucy. "To see your eggs."
As soon as Lucy said this, all three eggs began to move and develop gradual cracks.
"Everybody! Look!" Cried Charlie Brown.
Charlie Brown was holding the nest as he showed everyone the gradually cracking eggs. Out of one egg came a yellow leg.
"I see a leg!" Called Linus.
Out of another egg came a pink beak.
"I see a beak!" Cried Peppermint Patty.
Out of another egg came a red tail.
"I see a tail!" Cried Rerun.
And soon enough, all three eggs broke to reveal three tiny Woodstocks, one yellow, one red, and one pink.
"Aw!" Everyone said in adoration.
Woodstock and Tammy flew down and they admired their brand new nestlings.
"Aw….!" Woodstock sighed in adoration.
"They're so adorable!" Sally squeed.
"These birdies are cute!" Agreed Janice.
"I guess my Beethoven music really helped them to hatch." Said Schroeder.
"That it did, Schroederkins." Said Mary Stewart as she hugged him.
As she did so, Tammy's brother Firdo flew down and much to his surprise, there were three tiny Woodstocks in the nest. Firdo looked to see that one of them looked a lot like him.
"Aw…." Said Firdo.
Just then, the remaining Woodstocks, Harriet, Bill, Raymond, Conrad, Fred, Roy and Olivier flew over and were most adored by their friend's newborn nestlings. Woodstock's children looked up and raised their wings, trying to reach for the older Woodstocks. Woodstock picked up his yellow son, and Tammy picked up her pink daughter. Firdo then picked up his red nephew. Firdo tickled his nephew's belly.
"No surprise there was a yellow bird." Said Charlie Brown. "This one really looks like his father."
"Hey!" Exclaimed Sally. "These birds need names!"
"Let's look at these birds and decide." Said Charlie Brown.
Charlie Brown then eyed the yellow bird.
"I think we should call this one Woodstock Junior." Said Charlie Brown.
Rerun looked at the red bird.
"Let's call this one Reginald." Said Rerun.
Sally looked at the pink bird.
"We should call this one Tabitha." Suggested Sally.
Woodstock and Tammy looked at their babies and asked them if they liked those names.
"Yay!" Chirped the newborn birds.
Snoopy looked down at Woodstock, Tammy and their babies.
"Aw…." Said Snoopy.
Snoopy picked up Woodstock, Tammy and the baby birds and hugged them. Woodstock and Tammy hugged him back. Snoopy then put the birds back in their nest.
"Snoopy really loves these new birds." Charlie Brown said.
"They are the newborns of his best friend." Said Sally.
"And they've been friends for a very long time now." Added Linus. "This looks like a new beginning for Woodstock."
"You're right, Linus." Said Charlie Brown. "The beginning of fatherhood."
Woodstock looked up at Charlie Brown and Linus and smiled.
"Congratulations, Woody!" Said Peppermint Patty as she came up to the nest.
Woodstock flew up and pecked her nose.
"Good old Woodstock." Chuckled Peppermint Patty.
Woodstock giggled and flew over to Charlie Brown.
"So Woodstock, did you find your mother?" Asked Charlie Brown.
Woodstock sighed sadly. He didn't want to admit he had ended up finding an empty nest.
"I'll take that as a yes." Charlie Brown said to himself.
Woodstock then flew back down to admire his offspring some more. Bill, Harriet, Firdo, Roy, Raymond, Olivier, Conrad and Fred all took it in turns at watching the newborn birds. The birds hugged them too. While they did this, Woodstock looked up in the sky, wondering about his mother and sibling.
"Huh?" Quizzed Tammy as she saw her boyfriend look up at the sky.
Woodstock explained that he was just thinking about his mother and sibling, and how he wished they would be here to see their grandchildren, nephews and niece.
Suddenly, a chirp was heard in the sky.
"Huh?" Quizzed Woodstock.
The chirp belonged to a larger Woodstock wearing glasses with red lenses.
"Mom!" Cried Woodstock.
Indeed it was. It was Woodstock's mother, whom had somehow received the word about her grandchildren.
"Yippee!" Woodstock cheered as he flew up to hug his mother.
Woodstock then sighed about his sibling.
"Oh ho!" Called another voice.
The voice belonged to Woodstock's sibling.
"Hey!" Called Tammy.
Charlie Brown was so surprised, he rubbed his eyes.
"I'm seeing double here! Four Woodstocks!"
Woodstock then explained that the other Woodstock happened to be his sister Winifred.
"So Woodstock does have a sister." Said Sally.
"And she's come to see her nephews and niece!" Added Heather.
Woodstock hugged Winifred, happy to see her again. Winifred congratulated her twin brother on becoming a father, and making her an aunt.
"Yes, congratulations indeed, Woodstock." Said Emily. "And you too, Tammy."
Emily knelt and patted the birds' heads.
"Great work, Woodstock." Said Tommy as he walked over.
"So this is what babies of Woodstock would look like." Said Boco.
That night, Woodstock's friends stayed a little longer at Woodstock's nest to admire the babies some more, while Snoopy waited until it was time to put the nest back in the tree. Fifi came out.
"Hey!" Called Fifi. "Ah!"
Fifi looked down and saw Woodstock's new babies.
"Aw…." Fifi smiled.
Fifi got down and admired the baby birds.
"He he!" Called Woody Junior, Reginald and Tabitha.
Once the other Woodstocks, as well as Woodstock's mother and sister flew away, Snoopy put the nest back into the tree. Snoopy patted Woodstock's head and went back to his house with Fifi. Woodstock and Tammy waved to Snoopy and Fifi and they looked back towards their babies.
"Bye!" Called Snoopy.
"Bye!" Woodstock called back.
Woodstock looked up. More than one miracle happened. Not only did he become a father, but his mother and sister came back into his life. He knew he was going to enjoy being a father.
