Work Text:

Peace, and tranquility. Two things dragons enjoy in excess. Not particularly sociable or approachable creatures, their existence can grow rather lonely. But most of them choose not to dwell on it, preferring to enjoy the beauties of the world without disturbance—

"Lan Zhan Lan Zhan!"

... Of course, peace and tranquility become a privilege when a huli jing keeps pestering you day by day with preposterous claims—

"I love you!"

Golden eyes stare without any surprise at the little black fox standing in front of him.

A slim and long white dragon begins to unfurl itself, white scales shining under the hot sun, strong arms stretching, letting its claws dig into the soft earth. If he weren't so proper, Lan Wangji would've even yawned, but instead, he opted to simply shake off the few birds which had decided his horns would be their resting place, encouraging them to begin chirping and fly away.

Normally, only a fool would approach a dragon in such an abrupt manner. But the white dragon has already realized that this huli jing—which is barely the size of half his head—doesn't really have the biggest common sense out there.

"Wei Wuxian—"

Before even being capable of finishing his sentence, the little creature runs off, startling Lan Wangji. The only sound left behind being the soft footsteps, seeming to be on the lookout for something before disappearing inside a big bush full of fresh berries.

"..."

sigh

The big creature shakes his head and only begins to walk away when a sudden bite on his tail pulls him back, a yelp escaping from his mouth as he immediately looks back to see who dared to lay a hand on his tail without permission—

"Feyy— you fifn't wait fof me efen a fecond—"

The same voice which has been hunting his nightmares—dreams—for weeks exclaims just under the fluffy end of his tail.

"You—! Do not bite it!"

exclaims Lan Wangji, trying to get away but only managing to end up tearing a few strands of his precious silk-like fur, most of it ending either on the floor or in Wei Wuxian's mouth. Sadly, the dragon can only watch in silent horror as a tiny hole of baldness now remains on his once pristine sky-blue tail.

"Ah—uh—forgive me, forgive me! But this one brings something far more important than... well, that very pretty fur of yours—!”

Funny enough, even with those unbothered words, Lan Wangji cannot actually get himself to feel mad about it, the shiny twinkle in Wei Wuxian's eyes stopping him from voicing any complaint about his lost strands of fur.

"Well, it is a pretty funny story, I was—"

Lan Wangji isn't really paying attention to what the huli jing is saying, not because he doesn't want to, but because he is more bothered by staring at him: black fur which covers him completely, shining like the most precious obsidian; his silver-like eyes looking at him directly without a hint of uneasiness; nine fluffy tails dancing in the back of his body in a hypnotizing rhythm.

All about this being—his laughter, infinite rambles, beauty, and loud chaos—makes Lan Wangji feel drawn to it. Just staring at the fox makes him want to grab him by the collar and claim—

"—So, I picked some of these because they reminded me of you!"

Fortunately, that dangerous train of thought is stopped by the same Wei Wuxian. Now paying attention, Lan Wangji glances at whatever the fox brought him this time, only to freeze speechless at what his eyes see.

"I remember you once told me you had a liking for gentians, so I chose just the best for you."

There at Wei Wuxian’s feet rest two blue gentians, both weirdly in perfect condition, the different shades of color radiating with soft elegance, standing out against the green grass.

"...I- I hope you like them and... if any elf comes to you claiming those are his, don't listen to him—"

"Thank you."

Lan Wangji gets closer to the huli jing, his snout mere centimeters away, slightly bowing his head in silent gratitude.

Nervously, Wei Wuxian shakes his head and merely lets out what sounds like a little wail—

"Aiyaaa, stop that, Lan Zhan! Though I am glad you liked them this much, if I had known I would've stolen—picked—some more."

Wei Wuxian wags his tails in silent joy, his silver eyes never leaving the other's face. Warmth settles between them, the sun kissing their bodies and green grass gently caressing their feet. Before a soft chuckle comes out of the smaller one—

"—But after all, I can only get the best for my future mate, don't you think, my fuddy-duddy?"

Those words normally stir doubt inside Lan Wangji's thoughts, but for now, he will let it be. Truly, he cannot get a break from this fox, can he?

-

Few days later, a young man with luscious black hair walks down the green grass of a low mountain. Silver eyes scan the surroundings, wondering if there may be something to eat around here. Suddenly, his fluffy ears catch a quick movement, and with a half grin he rapidly turns around and launches at the sneaky being.

His hands catch a soft ball of fur, it is white, and two long ears pop out of it. Momentarily confused, Wei Wuxian's handle on the fat thing falters, and it takes the opportunity to jump and run away.

Wei Wuxian looks back to where it left, still capable of seeing the rustle of leaves and grass left by the fast running creature. His feet move without a second thought, already guessing what it is, maybe he could roast some bunny meat for his Lan Zhan.

It goes on for no longer than ten minutes, his golden earrings dangling and catching the light, skin shining with the dampness of adrenaline. Foxes were made to hunt, and he won't be losing to some tiny walking ball of meat!

He laughs at the sky, just because it feels right to, robes flowing with the wind, getting slightly dirty every time Wei Wuxian trips. Of course his joy doesn't last long—the forest suddenly ends, the landscape no longer covered with tall trees, but with some little tiny bushes and a very vast almost flat field, green and shiny with the sun. It almost looks artificial, how is this in such good—AH!

The huli jing trips and rolls, falling face first with a loud ACK! Thank goodness Lan Zhan isn't here because he would die of shame. Gaining control of his limbs once again, he places two hands on the ground, feeling the soft grass under his palms, before finally kneeling and rubbing his eyes, trying to get the dirt out, sneezing and barely getting rid of the earth in his face. Well at least now he can—...see.

Not too far away, Lan Wangji is seated with his eyes closed. The man is wrapped in pure white robes knitted with patterns of several sky-blue clouds, a white ribbon resting over his forehead, giving him the look of a god who came down from the skies. Slim white horns, similar to the ones of a deer, stand out from his head, shining with the rays of the sun.

Thank heavens such beauty didn't see what just happened.

With trembling steps Wei Wuxian gets up, trying to look around for the stupid bunny that got away. Of course it isn't anywhere around, so without panicking, he quickly uproots the first bush of full berries he visualizes, hiding it behind his back—the bush is clearly visible but… whatever.

"Lan Zhan! What a nice coincidence to find you here!"

Golden eyes slowly open, staring at the huli jing which still has some dirt and scratches on his face.

"...Wei Wuxian, what happened to your—"

"Here this is for you!"

He presses the green bush against the dragon's face, waiting for him to grab it. Lan Wangji hesitates, but finally decides to take it. Confusion clear on his non visible face.

Wei Wuxian takes the liberty to sit next to him, splayed down on the ground, hair wild and grin bright. Lan Wangji tries to hide the deep blush that is beginning to spread down to his neck.

"So, watcha doin' here? Enjoying the view?"

He waves his feet, tails serving as bed while he glances at Lan Wangji, thinking about what a wonderful being he has in front of him.

"...Bunnies."

The mumble is so soft the huli jing almost didn't catch it.

"Huh?"

Wei Wuxian sits up, looking around and noticing that little bundles of fluff stand close, staring at them with twitching noses.

"Woah, there are so many! If you want me to—I can hunt some for you~"

Lan Wangji looks back at him with terror in his gaze, quickly shaking his head and frowning.

"They are not for eating."

Wei Wuxian smiles, he rarely sees such a...cute side of Lan Zhan, getting all protective over a few bunnies. He is just so… cute.

"Very well then! Do not worry I won't eat them—but at least you should introduce me to them no?"

Lan Wangji raises an eyebrow, while the huli jing sits closer to him, almost bumping shoulders—

"Come on Lan Zhan! I won't eat them! If they are special to you they are special to me!"

He wasn't sure before but...now looking at the way Wei Wuxian is smiling he finds himself not being capable of refusing anything to him. How...captivating. The dragon reaches for one of the fruits of the bush that got violently ripped from the ground, and with an extended palm, offers it to the bunnies, patiently waiting for one of them to get close.

He doesn't have to wait much before one of them—the only black one—decides to hop forward, already knowing Lan Wangji wouldn't hurt him, happily munching on the berry and letting his palm pet him on the head.

Wei Wuxian's smile grows just the slightest, how can Lan Zhan be good even with animals? Is he truly that perfect?

He tries the same technique, taking one blueberry and offering it to the curious animals, but this time, none come close, wary of Wei Wuxian. I mean, who wouldn't be wary of someone who almost ate their cousin?

Puffing out a breath, his fox ears slightly go down, disappointed at not being able to pet them. That is until a bigger, but softer hand takes hold of one of his, placing a berry in it. He almost doesn't process it, until Wei Wuxian glances up and meets Lan Wangji's eyes, which are looking down to his palm. He gets lost for a second, going along with whatever Lan Wangji is planning, merely staring at his face, imagining how pretty it would look with a smile on it.

Not really paying attention to what he is saying about “taking care of the scratches on his face.”

Wei Wuxian only comes back to reality when he feels soft fur against his skin, glancing down and noticing one white bunny got close and took the berry from him, he smiles, canines flashing with the sun, silver glowing with happiness. Not noticing the soft smile Lan Wangji directs to him.

Unfortunately when he tries to pet the bunny it gets away, moaning he presses himself back on his elbows, letting out a pout.

"Lan Zhaaaan, why do they like you and not me?"

"..."

"I usually visit them, they have gotten used to me."

Wei Wuxian smiles, eyes closed, enjoying the sun falling on his flesh. Slightly dizzy with sleepiness.

"Then, do you believe that if I come everyday with you they will also let me pet them?"

There is no answer, the calm atmosphere is enough to answer him. He doesn't open his eyes, and loses the sight of Lan Wangji still petting the black bunny, a soft, almost nonexistent smile blooming on his features.

For a second, the dragon hopes they will.

-

If you believe you deserve a mate, then you must fight with nails and teeth in order to impress them and gain their affection.

Which is why Wei Wuxian is already looking at his next target: a poor salesman who is selling some jewelry. Those little gems are extremely expensive! But thankfully, the huli jing's specialty is getting things without having to pay for them. And he will have that sapphire necklace at all costs.

Just thinking about Lan Wangji's slender neck decorated with the twinkling diamonds makes him drool. And so, he sets himself ready. Getting rid of his fox ears and tails, changing his appearance to his more "human-like" form, deep black locks of hair fall from his shoulders and down his back, flowing like the most beautiful river; silver eyes with a deep red contour shining with determination, a mischievous grin quickly growing on his now cherry-red lips.

With growing confidence, the fox begins to walk out of the woods, allowing his flaming and explosive character to settle down and be replaced by a beautiful young master. Swaying his hips, the black and red silk around his body flowing with every movement, kind of missing the weight of his golden earrings under his ears, but well, normally a humble man doesn't wear gold wherever he goes. Tch.

Two soft-looking hands settle over the salesman's stand, a shy smile blooming on Wei Wuxian's plump lips—

"Well, hello, my good sir. You see, I was walking by and couldn't help but be enchanted by all your treasures—"

The huli jing begins moving one of his fingers over the sapphire necklace he so much desires, going from the jewelry to the salesman's hand. "—They are truly a sight to behold, you must have many clients daily, do you not?"

Wei Wuxian's single finger slowly goes up from the man's hand to his forearm, before the seller lets out a nervous chuckle.

"Ah haha, w-well, you flatter me, young master. I gotta say business has been going well lately—!"

The huli jing smiles at this, his other hand going up to his face and beginning to tap his cheek with a sharp nail, silver orbs never leaving the other man's brown eyes.

"Must be a blessing. You should be happy; most businesses don't go as well. Ahhh, if only I could be as successful as you."

Wei Wuxian talks in a high-pitched wail, his hand retreating from the seller's forearm, going up to his forehead and acting as a poor maiden in distress. The other man stumbles at this and mumbles—

"W-why do you say that, young master? Could something be going wrong?"

Fool little human.

"Aaaah, it's just that money is not running well around my family. We've been trying to get what we can, but as much as we try, there isn't something pretty enough to sell. Only one of your products would help me for the rest of the month~ Truly, you should be grateful, my lord—!"

He begins to let out little sobs and pretends to be wiping little droplets of tears away, silver eyes shining with fake sadness.

"At this point, I've given up and decided I shall maybe die of hunger! Next to my baby brothers and sick mother!"

Now the fat tears begin, pathetic tiny wails escaping his mouth, until the salesman gets up from where he is and gets closer to Wei Wuxian, not realizing the little mocking smile the huli jing is wearing.

"D-Don't cry, young master. Don't worry, I-I'm sure things will settle out for you and your family... in fact—...!"

At those final words, Wei Wuxian's ears perk up—good thing this man is as naive as he imagined he'd be.

"—I-In fact?" he whispers with feigned sorrow.

The seller swallows for a second and places a hand over his shoulder, not realizing the little flinch Wei Wuxian gives at the contact.

"In fact... I will give you one of my products if it will help you in any way... I know it isn't much, but—"

"Awwww, really?! You are such a humble, incredible, kind, and noble man, sir! This one will be forever in gratitude for your sacrifice!"

Wei Wuxian immediately gets away from the other's filthy hand and gets closer to the stand, taking the sapphire necklace and placing it safely inside a little blue bag he was carrying.

"Ah, sure, but—I was wondering if you would like to grab a drink—"

"Apologies, already taken, bye!"

Wei Wuxian exclaims while walking towards the woods, already thinking about how to give Lan Zhan this little surprise.

-

And what a surprise he gave him, but more of the unwanted type.

You see, when Lan Wangji was walking towards town in search of some medicinal herbs, he didn't think he would find said huli jing—who had been flirting with him—flirting with another man. He wasn't close enough to actually hear what they were saying, but merely looking at the way Wei Wuxian touched the other man's arm made a little vein on Lan Wangji's forehead pop up.

No longer in the mood for groceries, the dragon returned to the forest, begging for his brain to not bring back such an awful sight—but begging in vain. Because the more he tried not to think about those perfectly soft hands reaching for another man's arm, those sparkling eyes glancing at someone else's face, the sway of those hips begging for attention…

It should only be natural. Huli jings are always in search of hearts to steal, to take their purity and leave them to rot. It shouldn't hurt to see a huli jing merely hunting. But that is exactly what makes Lan Wangji recoil.

He is just one of the many people Wei Wuxian is probably trying to seduce, all his affections and words must be fake. Since the first time that man presented himself in front of him claiming to wish to have him as his mate, Lan Wangji already knew those words were fueled by hunger and the necessity to feed. And that is exactly why he doesn't take those words seriously—

As much as he wishes he could simply grab the huli jing by the hips and kiss—

Golden eyes shine with rabid fire, praying for Wei Wuxian to not find him in this state, for if the huli jing stood in front of him, he truly doesn't know what he would do.

Lan Wangji breathes heavily, one of his hands going up to his raven-black hair, tightly gripping it with uneasiness. His sharp canines ache for something to bite into, a certain someone's neck, but instead Lan Wangji bites his own tongue, hoping to be capable of calming the rising hunger inside his being.

Reminding himself: Wei Wuxian is a huli jing, a demon of seduction, a man who feeds on desire. Lan Wangji is no different from his other prey, as simple as that.

-

"Aiyaaaa, you won't even take a look at it?" Wei Wuxian wails, holding the sapphire necklace in one hand and shaking it in front of a face as cold as ice. Now, without having to pretend to be a humble man, the huli jing wears his most dazzling jewelry: a pair of golden bracelets and earrings, which have embedded rubies the color of red blood.

"There is no need." The words cut like the sharpest blade. Golden eyes remain fixed on a poem he was reading before the huli jing came proudly shaking his hips in silent victory, not realizing the reaction he caused in him.

Wei Wuxian pouts and folds his knees, beginning to sit down in front of Lan Wangji. Momentarily looking up to the birds resting over his horns.

"Who would've thought you would be kinder to the birdies than your future mate." Wei Wuxian pouts, placing his chin over his hand, glancing at Lan Wangji's eyes, the golden orbs fighting not to look back at the man in front of him.

"And I worked so hard to get it! When I saw it, I immediately knew it had to be yours—!" Black ears twitch with the sounds of the forest, awaiting Lan Wangji's response.

"...If you worked so hard to get it—" the dragon finally looks back at the silver gaze, falling out of words for a second, trying to ignore the sudden pounding in his chest, "—you should give it to another one of your preys."

After uttering those words, Lan Wangji tries not to think about what he just said and stares at the practically unread poem lying on his lap, some strands of his black hair falling over the pages. What made him say that? Such childish words. A being hundreds of years old should already know words only cause violence and trouble.

"...PFFFF—HAHAHAHAHA!" Wei Wuxian begins laughing like a maniac, pressing his hands onto his abdomen, head falling back and scaring the birds out of Lan Wangji's horns. He doesn't understand what seems to be so funny to the huli jing, a deep frown beginning to form between his dark brows.

"W-WAIT—HAHA, s-sorry, sorry, I CAN'T—HAHAHA—!" Losing his balance, Wei Wuxian falls to the grass and remains laughing, legs spread and back arched, robes slightly opening where his chest lies, throat fully exposed to Lan Wangji's attentive gaze.

If it weren't for the dragon's increasing anger at Wei Wuxian's mockery, he would've already opened those legs further, taking the annoying black robes from the middle. But he will not do that because he is a proper gentleman with values that won't take advantage of another... as much as he wants to.

"OH GODS—Lan Zhan—haha, ahhh, my love, do you really think I care about other preys?" The huli jing begins to sit up, putting his weight on his arms, allowing the black robe to slightly open up and reveal just the tiniest fragment of his creamy white chest. "You of all people should already know I only have eyes for one."

Those words stab Lan Wangji in the heart. Other preys. There have to be other preys. Golden eyes stare at the silly smile Wei Wuxian is wearing, that smile he surely shows to lure others in and devour their life force. His hands tighten into fists, knuckles growing white, wishing he could have this man for himself, knowing that if that were to happen, they both would end up hurt.

"Lan Zhan?" Wei Wuxian's candy-like voice gently caresses the dragon's ears, tasting like the most delicious treat.

"...keep it."

Lan Wangji's words echo through the forest, one hand going up to gently caress the hand in which the huli jing holds the sapphire necklace, silent sadness glowing on his features.

"It will be of more use to you."

Just as if the touch burned, he takes his hand away from Wei Wuxian's skin, avoiding the other's gaze, listening a more silent chuckle coming from him.

"But... you really won't take it? Lan Zhan, I don't get it. It's a gift for you! I want to give it to you."

Wei Wuxian tries to take Lan Wangji's hand in his, but the hand withdraws, leaving the fox's hand empty and cold.

"There is no need, you should keep it."

Golden eyes look back towards the other man, hurt clear in the silver-eyed's gaze.

"...but—"

"Keep it."

Those words seem final, having an edge and force Wei Wuxian hadn't heard from Lan Wangji before. An awkward atmosphere settles between them, the golden rays of the sun no longer bringing warmth and the birds no longer daring to get closer to them.

"Then, uh, then I shall take my leave."

Wei Wuxian weakly smiles, getting up on his feet, pulling his black robe to close it tighter and holding the sapphire necklace tightly in his hand, a sad expression painted all over his features, the pounding of his heart loud in his ears.

"...See you later, Lan Zhan."

He gives a shaky bow and begins to walk away, the nine tails no longer dancing with the sounds of nature, simply lying on the floor while being dragged by Wei Wuxian's body.

Lan Wangji swallows. He believes he said the right thing, but for some reason, the way the huli jing left—or the way the dragon spoke to him—doesn't feel right. And for a second, he wishes he would've accepted the necklace.

-

"There, there, A-Xian."

A gentle voice and soft hand caress Wei Wuxian's long hair, stopping on his ears to give them little scratches. The huli jing is currently crying like he had never cried since being a little pup, his pretty eyes a little puffy, runny nose and red face, wails falling from his lips, tears falling nonstop down his cheeks.

"See? I told you he was a jackass!"

Jiang Cheng loudly *growls*, a fist curled and ready to punch something. Jiang Yanli shakes her head and directs a severe look towards Jiang Cheng, silently telling him to keep his mouth shut.

"Don't listen to him, A-Xian, you know how A-Cheng is... but yes, not accepting your gift wasn't very polite of him—"

Wei Wuxian only wails louder, his hands digging into his sister's dress, tearing the purple fabric a little. Jiang Yanli lets out a sigh and simply keeps rubbing his hair, trying her best to calm him.

"Acting all mighty and big—I'll show that dragon what happens when you mess with—"

"No!"

Exclaims Wei Wuxian. Even with puffy eyes, the deadly stare he directs towards Jiang Cheng is enough to stop the man in his tracks.

"I don't w-want anyone t-to fight... I just—sniff—I just don't understand w-what I did wrooong!"

The last words come out high-pitched thanks to the next wave of tears streaming down his face.

"It was—uh—it was just a s-s-stupid gift! W-why did he act l-like that?!"

The huli jing buries his face in Jiang Yanli's robes, the poor girl silently trying to support him as much as she can.

"You did nothing wrong, and that is the damn point! That dragon thinks so highly of himself he won't even accept a gift from you! That man is simply an arrogant son of a—!"

"A-Cheng! You are not helping!"

Jiang Yanli shushes Jiang Cheng, lightly tapping Wei Wuxian's back to signal him to get up. At first, he refuses to get away from his sister's embrace, until the soft words the girl whispers to him finally convince him to get out of her lap and sit up next to her.

"A-Xian... do you think what A-Cheng is saying is what happened? That Lan Wangji didn't accept the necklace only because of arrogance?"

Jiang Cheng huffs in the background, silently getting closer to them and sitting next to his siblings, staring at the pathetic expression Wei Wuxian is wearing, using all his self-restraint to not laugh at his brother's face.

"N-no, he is not like that, he—sniff—he has accepted my gifts s-several times! T-that's why I d-don't understand!"

Both siblings look at each other before Jiang Yanli gives a nod to Jiang Cheng. The girl speaks—

"Was there anything unusual this time? I don't know, any expression, face, words that he said?"

Wei Wuxian remains silent, the faint sniffles already quieting, trying to think about something that could've triggered Lan Wangji's annoyance or any words out of the ordinary. Placing his finger on his chin and lightly tapping it, lower lip slightly out in a deep look of concentration.

"...You know you look like a dumbass right now—"

"A-Cheng!"

"It's the truth!"

exclaims Jiang Cheng while looking back to his brother, scoffing and looking away.

"Whatever, any other face wouldn't suit you—"

"That!"

Wei Wuxian exclaims, clicking his fingers.

"Oh, Jiang Cheng, you are a genius!"

The huli jing gets closer to the younger man and tries to grab him for a hug, but Jiang Cheng pushes him back and begins trying to run away like a wounded animal.

"I-Instead of beginning with your stupid attitudes, tell us what the hell you are talking about!"

"Awww, Cheng Cheng, you truly are a mood killer. No wonder why you haven't had a partner in ages—ow!"

He punches Wei Wuxian on the head, leading the fox to rub the spot which will probably turn into a bump.

"You two, stop it. A-Xian, please tell us what you mean."

Wei Wuxian lets out a sigh and rubs his hands together.

"What Jiang Cheng said, that thing about other faces not suiting me. Lan Zhan said something about me better giving my other preys the necklace I wanted to give to him."

He sadly repeats the words the dragon said and what he had responded. Weirdly enough, Jiang Cheng begins to tremble slightly, his lips pursed in what seems like he is about to mock him out of the face of the earth, quickly directing his hand to his mouth in order not to laugh. Meanwhile, Jiang Yanli silently smiles, shaking her head in disbelief.

"A-Xian... I believe you should be more glad about this than what you think."

Softly, Jiang Yanli's voice gets closer while she places a hand over her brother's shoulder.

"W-What—glad?!"

"Mhm, glad indeed, because what you just described seems to me like Lan Wangji just felt jealous."

None of them speak, the huli jing's sister giving a light chuckle and Jiang Cheng almost doubling over himself in an attempt not to laugh, while Wei Wuxian merely blushes harder than he ever has in his life, holding both his hands to his face, silver eyes twinkling with sudden awareness.

"J-j-j-jealous?! Lan Zhan jealous?! B-but why, of who?! I've always told him my eyes only will ever be his!”

Exclaims Wei Wuxian while tightly hugging himself, slightly embarrassed at the fact that it had been a little obvious what was happening since the start.

"A-Xian, when jealousy is involved, people tend to not think very rationally, going more for instinct than logic."

Jiang Yanli gently says, patting his back.

"Especially if said person is insecure."

The huli jing remains silent for a moment, not knowing what to think of that. On one hand, he represses the need to jump in ecstasy at the thought of Lan Zhan actually feeling jealousy because of him... but on the other, he not only feels hurt by the dragon's distrust, but also wishes to understand him more. If Lan Wangji feels insecure about himself, there must be a reason to it. A reason he wishes to know—

"Don't even think about it."

Jiang Cheng gets closer and clasps his hands in front of Wei Wuxian's face, startling him out of his daze.

"Trying to expose his insecurities will only lead for you both to fight, and I reaaally don't want to deal with another of your tantrums."

Wei Wuxian pouts and looks away.

"I-I wasn't thinking about that! And either way, we don't even know if Lan Zhan is actually... jealous."

The last words are spoken softly, the fox beginning to rock himself, taking hold of his knees and burying his face in them, a silly smile blooming on his lips.

"I-It couldn't be, could it? Lan Zhan actually wishing me to be his and his only? No, no, that... that would be ridiculous—"

His unconscious rambles come to an end when suddenly a pillow falls on his face, causing him to lose balance and fall backwards—

"Hey! What was that f—"

Another pillow lands on his face and several others follow, all being thrown by Jiang Cheng, who is wearing a pretty disgusted expression. Jiang Yanli decides to not intervene and instead stares at her brothers with silent joy at their antics.

"You dumbass, get that stupid expression out of your face or I swear I will tear it!"

Jiang Cheng takes one pillow after the other just like a catapult. Until Wei Wuxian quickly avoids one of them and launches himself at his little brother, taking one of the scattered pillows and hitting him repeatedly in the face.

"I SWEAR I WILL KILL YOU, WEI—HMFFAN!"

Wei Wuxian giggles and keeps punching him with the soft surface, his nine tails charging and keeping Jiang Cheng's limbs still while he hits him without mercy.

Until Jiang Cheng steps over one of the tails, causing Wei Wuxian to let out a wail and escape from over him. Taking such a convenient chance, the purple-robed man takes hold of one of the fox's feet and pulls him backwards, the war of pillows beginning once again.

And they remain like that for a while, simply enjoying their little game. People would say grown men shouldn't play with pillows like little kids, but right now, what both siblings care the least about is what other people would think, laughing and punching at each other, forgetting for a moment that the world exists.

Finally, both lie on the floor exhausted, still lightly hitting each other's arms, their breathing heavy and faces full of sweat, colored by a deep shade of pink. Jiang Yanli walks over to them and settles a low table in front of them, happily beginning to serve tea to them.

"Could my two best warriors take a break and enjoy tea with me?"

The girl gets closer to them and begins ruffling both of their heads, causing both brothers to calm down and start smiling.

"Whatever Shijie wishes shall be granted!"

Exclaims Wei Wuxian while getting up, but thanks to the abrupt movement ends up getting dizzy and falls back to the floor with a loud PUM!

Jiang Cheng clicks his tongue and slowly begins to sit up.

"You are an idiot, Wei Wuxian. Instead of spending all day playing the fool, you should learn how to use your brain."

The younger brother, now sitting up, accepts Jiang Yanli's offer for tea and begins sipping the hot water.

"Aiyaaaa, Cheng Cheng, you truly are so cruel to your older brother! Shijie, Shijie, what did I do to deserve such disrespect?!"

Cries Wei Wuxian while clutching his sister's robe, dramatically placing an arm over his eyes.

"Poor A-Xian, won't you like to sit with us and enjoy some tea? Then I will defend you from our very mean little A-Cheng."

"I-I'm not little!"

Scoffs Jiang Cheng, looking away and waiting for Wei Wuxian to sit up, looking back and realizing that said man is sticking out his tongue in mockery. The Jiang is about to land a punch on his brother's face when Jiang Yanli's soft voice interrupts him.

"So, A-Xian, what do you plan to do? Will you speak with Lan Wangji?"

She stares at the huli jing she cares so much for, noticing the silent devotion Wei Wuxian radiates. She truly hopes that dragon is capable of taking care of her little brother as he should.

"Of course I will, that stubborn dragon has a knucklehead, but that won't stop me from getting his heart sooner or later!"

Silver eyes shine with determination, sipping his tea while wondering what tactic he should use to get Lan Wangji's understanding, ending up sighing and staring at his siblings.

"But that is something I shall think about later. For now, I want to spend my time with my favorite two siblings in the whole wide world!"

The fox gets closer to them and presses his head on his sister's shoulder, ruffling Jiang Cheng's hair, a vein about to explode on the younger man's forehead.

"Whatever, if you are going to stay you should help me with the cleaning tomorrow. Do us a favor and be of some use if you're going to be bothering us all day."

Those words are spoken without heat, making Wei Wuxian smile at his little brother's attempt to sound harsh.

"Fine, fine, I'll help you as much as I can, Cheng Cheng. Sounds good to you?"

"Hmp! I will only answer that when I see you actually helping me."

The three of them remain chatting, the heat of the cups warming their hands, laughing and fighting about trivial things, the gentle chuckles of Jiang Yanli always accompanying them.

Ever since they were little, when both Jiang siblings—who had recently become orphans—had been saved from bandits by Wei Wuxian, their bond had only grown stronger with the passing of years. Becoming home to one another, the bright grin Wei Wuxian was wearing turned into the light both siblings needed to keep on.

-

A lonely dragon is playing a tune which still is not finished on his guqin, his eyes tainted by a gloomy cloud. Fingers moving with uncertainty, wondering why even in the first place he decided to create this piece, considering maybe thanks to the way he acted, Wei Wuxian will never come back. Five days have passed and not even a single time has he encountered the huli jing. Beginning to miss his laughter dearly.

Unfortunately, not even the composition of this melody can make him feel any better; if anything, it only makes it worse, because the desire to show this piece to Wei Wuxian and for them both to play together now has become quite unbearable.

He takes his fingers away from the instrument, needing a minute to relax. Standing up, Lan Wangji saves the guqin in its case, deciding to let it rest for a second and hangs it on his back. Walking through the forest, his tunics and long white tail trail behind him, the earth not even scratching or getting dirt into them.

The man looks up to the sky, feeling lost. He stares at the several trees which surround him; the day is especially hot today, a faint trail of sweat running down his throat, the sun shining with its full power. Some birds stare back at him, quickly flying towards him and placing themselves over his horns once again. Lan Wangji doesn't mind them; they are not particularly heavy nor annoying. Sometimes, he even likes to count them.

For a second, no thoughts seem to haunt his mind, enjoying a state of pure unconsciousness while walking. That is until a sudden scream of joy pulls him out of his haze, just in time to look up and see how a very well-known huli jing falls from a tree with his hands stretched, palms pressing over the dragon’s shoulders, staying just like that.

If Lan Wangji didn't know who Wei Wuxian is, he probably would believe the man escaped from a circus, because this ability is truly unreal… even kind of terrifying.

Still, none of them move, both of their faces mere inches apart. Wei Wuxian's hands are strongly held to Lan Wangji's shoulder blades, making a perfect handstand over said surface.

"Say, Lan Zhan, did you miss me?"

The huli jing whispers to the dragon's ear, allowing a little puff of hot air to filter and tickle the other. This startles Lan Wangji more than he would like to admit, and he stumbles, causing Wei Wuxian to lose balance and fall backwards. The fox lets out a yelp but doesn't seem like he will try anything to stop his fall.

And so, the fastest he's moved in a while, Lan Wangji quickly turns back and moves forward, catching Wei Wuxian by the chest, squeezing the air out of him, leaving said man a little disoriented. Through the seconds, Lan Wangji's hold only gets tighter. Thanks to him being the tallest of the two, Wei Wuxian's feet dangle a few inches in the air, his full weight loaded on the dragon's strong forearms, which only keep increasing the pressure from where both limbs surround his chest.

"L-L-Lan Zhan— ugh— I think you are gonna— make me c-choke." Wei Wuxian presses the back of his head to the dragon's chest, breathing a little heavily, unconscious of the other's inner turmoil.

Claim.

Claim.

Claim him.

A voice inside him keeps whispering those addictive words to Lan Wangji, and oh, how much he wishes to listen to them and simply take  Wei Wuxian. But no… that would just be following after… after the steps he so much despises. With a heavy sigh and a last inhale of the huli jing's addictive scent, the taller man lets him stand on his feet after a while.

Lan Wangji unfurls his arms from Wei Wuxian's chest, hands remaining for a second on his shoulders and trailing down his hips, staying there in order to allow him to gain balance once again.

After a few seconds, Wei Wuxian's light laugh breaks the silence. "Aaah, Lan Zhan, in my head I swear this seemed like a good idea—but I guess I never thought about what would happen if you didn't catch me in a princess carry."

All this is said while Wei Wuxian tries to remain standing without Lan Wangji's hands stabilizing him, but in the end, he gives up and lets his body fall against the taller man's body.

"Well… now that I see it this way, it actually was a good idea, wasn't it?" He wiggles his eyebrows, staring at Lan Wangji's golden orbs over his lashes, realizing the dragon's hold got tighter.

"...You shouldn't have done that. It is dangerous.”

Wei Wuxian faintly scoffs at his words, a little pout forming on his lips, those plump lips catching Lan Wangji's attention.

"I thank you for your worry, dearest, but I didn't come here to be lectured." After those words, the huli jing gets closer to Lan Wangji's face, placing his hand on the back of the dragon's head in order to not let him escape. Now, their noses almost touching, Wei Wuxian can feel the painful—delightful—throb on his hips thanks to the crushing strength of the other's hold, letting out a chuckle.

"I want something to be clear between us, Lan Zhan—"

He gets closer, putting himself on his toes to be capable of pressing his forehead to Lan Zhan's, "—the times I've told you you are my only, I've been sincere. I can be a huli jing, but in my case, rather than stealing man's vital energy, I prefer to eat the heart of animals or unpleasing people, like literally."

Wei Wuxian plays with strands of the dragon's black hair, twirling it on his finger. Lan Wangji's eyes widen at those words, wondering if maybe this is all a product of his imagination.

"And even if I actually had prey in that term, it would be the same, because I would only give my heart to you."

They both stare at each other, their breaths meeting the oother, their breaths meeting the other, feeling the necessity to end the distance and eat at each other's mouth.

"You don't have to give me an answer, I can wait, however much you desire, I will wait. For my heart will forever be yours."

The huli jing blushes at his own words, wondering when he got so shameless as to utter those sentences out loud, expecting Lan Wangji to push him away and call him reckless, but surprise is clear in his gaze as the other's lips touch his forehead, a gentle and soft caress on his skin, followed by another kiss on the same place. Wei Wuxian's eyes twinkle, all air leaving his lungs.

"I... I cannot promise you anything... Wei Ying."

His name had never been spoken so softly, it kind of melts his heart, a dumbstruck smile tugging at his lips, which is tainted by a faint stain of sadness. They both remain pressed to the other, until Wei Wuxian once again whispers:

"I know… but that won’t stop me from loving you, Lan Zhan.”

-

Now under the night sky, Wei Wuxian lies asleep next to Lan Wangji. They spent the day together, not doing anything special, but the huli jing never stopped with his infinite stories and tales. Maybe he thought Lan Wangji wasn't paying attention to him, but under the attentive gaze of the sky and the rustle of the tree leaves, the dragon paid attention to every single detail of the his words.

With gentle hands, the golden-eyed man softly caresses Wei Wuxian's hair, making sure that his head is positioned comfortably over his shoulder, a silent smile painting over his jade-like features, the warmth of his heart increasing with each passing second next to him.

Satisfied with the position, Lan Wangji exhales and slowly moves his hand down, taking Wei Wuxian's hand in his, wrapping the smaller hand with his claw-like fingers, making sure not to hurt the skin.

Enjoying the peace of the night, he glances up at the moon, staring at the endless stars, getting mesmerized by the beauty of the dancing lights that greet his eyes over the trees and the earth itself. Wei Wuxian faintly moves his head, seeming to gaze at the sky too, a gentle voice tickling Lan Wangji's shoulder.

"It was a night like this, wasn't it? The day we met."

mumbles the younger man with his eyes barely even open.

"Mn, not too long ago."

Wei Wuxian softly giggles and rubs his face against the dragon's shoulder.

"For me it was an eternity ago..."

Now golden and silver eyes stare at the million stars and brilliant moon, remembering the day in which both colors mingled for the first time, and both hearts couldn’t help but fall for the other.

-

"IT’S A HULI JING!"

"GET AWAY FROM HIM!"

"YOU SON OF THE DEVIL!"

"IT’S A DEMON, HE WILL DRAIN YOU ALIVE!"

"Pfff, well whatever, just so you know—hip—you just lost a very precious client!"

exclaimed Wei Wuxian. It was late in the night, and he had a big jug of Emperor’s Smile in his hand, drinking it like a starving man in a desert.

"Aaaaah~ such a shame, their alcohol is so damn good—"

The fox had drunk more than he should have, lowering his guard and accidentally letting his ears and tails out. Of course, everyone began to panic and call him names as usual, and he had to escape from the place, a single jar of Emperor’s Smile remaining in his hand.

Wei Wuxian walked into the forest, searching for a nice place to rest and enjoy the rest of the night. Truly, the stars looked beautiful today, more brilliant than usual—how strange.

Staring at the dark sky, the emptiness inside himself began to grow back as the alcohol’s intensity lowered. An annoyed growl escaped from his lips.

"What else do I need, universe?!—"

exclaimed the drunken man, his face flushed not only with intoxication but also with anger. He had a very good life: two siblings who were his family, beauty, intelligence, a very good sense of humor. What else could he need?

"I’ve fucking—hip—been searching for whatever else my fucking heart desires! And yet this stupid sadness remains! I mean—WA!"

The fox tripped over a tree branch and fell to the ground, hitting not only his butt but also his head, a moan escaping from his mouth in painful anger.

"Damn it, only this I needed too! You truly are not being fair with me!"

Wei Wuxian rubbed his head in an attempt to ease the pain, but only managed to feel the small bump that had formed, his displeasure growing at this. Glancing to his side, there lay the forgotten jar of alcohol. Foolishly, the huli jing thought he could at least forget his sorrow with a little more venom for the heart. But when he pulled the base from the floor, he realized it had broken, a few drops of the precious liquid falling to the ground.

With furious strength, Wei Wuxian threw the bottle at the nearest tree, crashing it into several pieces. He didn’t understand why the anger inside of him couldn’t be appeased. Normally, he was a very calm person, preferring to live life without worries or bad thoughts. But today, especially, it felt like nothing could calm him down.

So, he simply lay there on the ground, hugging his legs and burying his head between them, staying like that, holding back the tears, wishing his shijie were there to comfort him.

A few minutes passed—minutes in which Wei Wuxian tried not to think of anything and ignored the faint cries coming out of his mouth—until his ears caught light footsteps getting closer to him. He tensed and slowly tried to look up, the silver gaze catching white robes and a hand getting closer to him.

Immediately, he launched himself at the stranger, biting the hand with all his strength, hearing a pained grunt from the other person. Now having a grasp of him, Wei Wuxian tried to take hold of the arm and break it. But the other was stronger than him and quickly took him by the shoulders, throwing him against a tree and cornering him there.

"I SWEAR I’AM GOING T—..."

All words got stuck in his throat, his eyes widening at the sight before him. The trembling of his heart was no longer of anger but of wonder. The man in front of him was the most beautiful being he had ever seen. Pale skin slightly flushed due to the previous strain, long locks as black as the feathers of a crow, deer-like white and blue translucent horns that seemed like they could reach the sky—and yet, out of all of it, the prettiest part of this being were his eyes, pure gold like the sun, their glow challenging even that of the stars.

"...Are you okay?"

The being who looked like a fallen angel softly spoke, his grip on Wei Wuxian's shoulder slowly decreasing until it remained as a light touch.

"I-I-I... you— who— me..."

His face began to turn red, suddenly feeling deeply ashamed at the way he had bitten the heavenly being’s hand, the need to apologize suddenly overwhelming him.

"I, uh, f-forgive me, I—I shouldn't have bitten you."

The words sounded muffled, seeming to mix and turn in Wei Wuxian's head, not even realizing what the hell he had even said, his attention having drifted to the deity more than to what he had responded. Then the deity shook his head and took his soft hands off the huli jing's shoulders, Wei Wuxian barely catching himself before trying to take hold of the other's hands.

"No need to apologize. I shouldn't have gotten so close so abruptly."

The huli jing didn't know what to respond to that, or how to respond to anything, his eyes fixed on the man's appearance. This must be a dragon, he realized thanks to the long horns and tail that fell behind the deity's back, and in a more humorous way, Wei Wuxian also noticed the light frown which hadn't eased since they both shared gazes.

"Hey, pretty gege, you should stop frowning. Such a beautiful face shouldn't be stained with wrinkles."

Bad thing that when he was drunk he couldn't keep his thoughts to himself—he never did anyway—and, seeming to not care about anything else, he inched closer and tried to caress the other's face, before he was stopped by the iron grip of the dragon.

"It is dangerous for you to remain here. You should retire to your home."

"Hmmm, I think pretty gege should take me to his home. I wouldn't mind playing a little with—hip—with you—"

The dragon's ears reddened, his golden orbs seeming to be incapable of looking away from the fox in front of him, before the stranger let out a soft exhale and gently took hold of one of Wei Wuxian's hands.

"Do not speak such careless words. You do not know me.”

"I see, I see, so you say this because you wouldn’t be able to resist me! Oh, what a naughty young master we have here!"

He chuckled and abruptly fell over the handsome being, his face landing right against a sturdy chest, causing the taller man to let out a strangled breath.

"You know~ I always thought reptiles had cold skin, but you are pretty warm, gege… so cozy and soft."

Wei Wuxian pressed his face to the warm chest, listening to the rapid heartbeat under the layers of white fabric. His own breathing began to slow down, relaxing thanks to the dragon’s presence, who was at a complete loss about what to do—the most beautiful being he had encountered was a drunk huli jing who was openly flirting with him. Could this all be an illusion?

Lan Wangji lightly inhaled and exhaled, trying to keep track of all his thoughts and worries, softly placing a hand over Wei Wuxian’s back and murmuring,

"Excuse me, but I cannot leave you here alone. Would you let me take you somewhere safe?"

Those words coming from a stranger should have sounded like a flaming red flag, so Lan Wangji wouldn’t have been surprised if he had pushed him back and tried to attack him again. But it was quite the contrary, because the fox relaxed even more under his touch, turning into a living jelly, whispering against his chest,

"Do whatever you want, pretty gege."

After giving his response, Wei Wuxian fell into a limbo between being awake and asleep, capable of noticing what was happening around him but, at the same time, feeling safe and without having to stay alert.

"Then, if you excuse me."

Lan Wangji took off his white outer robe, both eyes never leaving the other's closed gaze. Now having the robe in one hand, he gently began to wrap it around him, not wanting to move the fox too much and end up disrupting his slumber.

Having him resembling some type of burrito, the dragon took the sleeping bundle in a princess carry and stood up.

He started thinking about where would be a good place to rest, but his ideas came to a halt when his golden orbs fell on the one he held in his embrace. The huli jing's lashes were long and dark; he had rosy cheeks and plump lips, dark hair that trailed down like a cascade, and fluffy fox ears which Lan Wangji very much wanted to touch, wondering if they were as soft as they looked.

The moon reflected on his face, highlighting the sleeping beauty, making Lan Wangji wonder when he would open his eyes again and show him those silver pools as bright as the moon. Such a beautiful being shouldn’t even have the right to exist. Lan Wangji clutched the other a little tighter, making sure to walk as steadily as possible.

Thankfully, the golden-eyed man knew the paths around the forest like the palm of his hand, so he had no trouble walking without looking at where he was heading, instead never leaving the face of the man in his arms. He felt a rush of want in his being—if only he could get closer and rub his forehead against his, feel that soft skin pressed against his own. It could have been like heaven.

Finally, they reached a cave Lan Wangji had visited several times. It was hidden, and part of his territory, so no man nor animal would ever dare to step foot in it. He began to walk towards it, going slower than usual, not wanting to let go of the stranger’s warmth so quickly.

Of course, nothing lasted forever, and sadly they reached the cave. The dragon found a soft spot where the other could rest without problem, deciding to leave him his outer robe so he wouldn’t pass cold.

But just when he was about to leave—not really wanting to—a soft tug stopped him in his tracks. Looking back, Lan Wangji froze at the sight.

Silver eyes met golden ones. The huli jing was slightly awake, his lashes still hiding part of that wonderful gaze. A hoarse mumble managed to get out of Wei Wuxian’s lips, a quiet:

"Don't leave."

That was all he needed to get back and sit next to him, at first trying to maintain distance, but the fox quickly ended with that idea because he got closer and placed his head on the dragon’s shoulder.

"Pretty gege... I didn't get your name."

He seemed to be half asleep. A smile tugged at Lan Wangji’s lips, surprising even himself.

"I didn't get yours. It is not polite to ask for a name when you haven't given it."

Wei Wuxian huffed and rubbed his forehead against the shoulder, sniffling a little of the dragon’s scent.

"Wei Ying, courtesy name Wei Wuxian. Now give—yawn—give me yours~"

Wei Wuxian sounded as if he was sleep-talking, so Lan Wangji believed maybe he wouldn’t even remember him by tomorrow, a sadness gripping him by the chest.

"...Lan Zhan, courtesy name Lan Wangji."

They both remained seated. For a long time, none said anything, and the dragon drifted his attention to the rocks around them—some round, others sharp, all of them with different shapes—the constant warmth of Wei Wuxian’s body grounding him.

"—Then, Lan Zhan, tomorrow I'll make sure to court you properly."

Lan Wangji almost choked at the sudden confession. Those must have been just words spoken without real weight; maybe Wei Wuxian would want to have him as his prey, but… but courting? No, no, it couldn’t be that. It was improbable, and if anything, impossible.

He convinced himself of his own words, not daring to actually believe them. Not daring to let the thought of such a creature wanting him settle in his mind. Not daring to even think about the consequences of what could happen if he felt affection for another. If he were to repeat the pattern… he wouldn’t. He wouldn’t be like his father. Never.

With resolution, he finally stared back at the already asleep man, slowly placing his head over the other’s. Enjoying the warmth he could get, and this fleeting moment that would never repeat. One wrong step and he might end up giving his first and only love to this fox—a love which he had sworn to keep for himself, because loving, being not only a dragon but a *Lan*, would be the most egoistic thing he could do to another being.

Lan Wangji began to close his eyes, listening to Wei Wuxian’s heartbeat and lightly rubbing his forehead against his forehead. Ah, it truly felt like heaven.

-

Now back to the present. It’s been a couple of weeks since Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian resolved their little misunderstanding. Even after months of knowing each other, the huli jing still enjoys bringing the dragon several gifts, and now, he rejects none of them. Since that day, something changed—but for the better, for Lan Wangji’s heart melted just a little bit more, allowing Wei Wuxian to stay by his side, even if an answer did not come.

It is a peaceful morning. The white dragon has awoken with a slight headache, the air around feeling slightly charged and suffocating. But Lan Wangji doesn’t pay attention to it. Now he is getting ready to start the day, turning to his human form and heading towards a nearby lake he likes to bathe in.

Stepping over the green grass with his bare feet, enjoying the softness under them, little birds greet him with the shine of the awakening sun, their birdsong caressing Lan Wangji’s sensitive sense of hearing.

Today his skin feels hotter than usual, so a bath is exactly the type of thing he needs. Arriving at the lake, the dragon takes off his outer robe and allows himself to be in only white pants, the sun causing his skin to shine like the most beautiful pearl, the few patches of white scales on his body glittering like faint rainbows.

Slowly, Lan Wangji steps down the few rocks that lead into the cool water, but before he is capable of fully entering the pool, two hands appear out of the lake and pull him inside. He lets out a surprised yelp, causing water to enter his lungs, before said hands let him go and allow him to swim to the surface and get some air.

At the first contact with air, Lan Wangji gasps with urgency, coughing up the little liquid that got into his body, before looking back with raging fire, ready to strike the fool who could’ve drowned him—only to widen his eyes at a very naked Wei Wuxian.

It seems like the huli jing has been saying something, because now he is bowing and his silver pools seem to be a little crystallized. But having such a sight in front of him, Lan Wangji cannot yet grasp what he is saying, golden orbs drinking hungrily at the look of the man’s body entirely exposed, the heat within himself somehow turning even more prominent—

“—rry, Lan Zhan! I swear in my mind it was waaay more romantic!” he exclaims while getting closer, hands hovering over Lan Wangji’s face, not knowing whether to touch the dripping skin or not. Meanwhile, it seems like said man has totally disconnected from reality, trying to memorize as much as he can of Wei Wuxian’s skin, catching the faint battle scars and moles that cover the surface he had never witnessed before.

“…Lan Zhan? You there?” He begins to wave a hand in front of the dragon’s eyes, getting him out of his trance, a blush creeping from his neck to his ears as he avoids the other’s eyes in an attempt at self-control.

“Forgive me, I was surprised, that’s all.”

Wei Wuxian shakes his head and crosses his arms.

“Lan Zhan! You should be more careful! What if it hadn’t been me and it had been a mermaid or something worse?!”

He gets closer and lightly touches one of the black strands of hair falling from the golden-eyed’s head.

“You know I could start a war if something were to happen to you—don’t scare me like that.”

Lan Wangji’s body relaxes at those words—the heat radiating from his skin momentarily forgotten—a tiny smile forming on his lips.

“I wouldn’t have let anyone drown me. I was disoriented, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t have defended myself if it had been necessary.”

Those words seem to calm Wei Wuxian, the huli jing lightly smiling with those sharp canines Lan Wangji so much adores.

“Then it’s settled! You better keep your word!”

Looking away for a second, Wei Wuxian’s face reddens before he quickly jumps forward and plants a kiss on his cheek, immediately stepping back and laughing nervously.

“Ah haha! A-anyway—w-won’t you join me for a swim, Lan Zhan?”

And the heat is back, *so* much worse than before. A part of Lan Wangji’s mind already knows what it is, but he decides to ignore it for now, his mind racing at the gentle peck Wei Wuxian has placed on his cheek. He nods and follows him, staring at the vast expanse of that perfectly carved back and down where his nine tails—which look thinner thanks to the water—dance with the waves of the lake.

"So, uh, Lan Zhan, I was wondering… I know most of your likes and dislikes. In fact, I consider myself an expert at that! But the only thing I know about your family is that you have a brother and an uncle somewhere, and I was… wondering if you would tell me more."

The fluffy ears move unconsciously, betraying his anticipation at the answer. Wei Wuxian stops walking in front of a pile of rocks, lowering himself onto the water and sitting on one of them.

"Of course, if you don't want to answer, I will understand!"

Lan Wangji looks down at him, his lashes wet, some droplets falling from pink lips. His chest and up are open to the wide world to see; if it were up to Lan Wangji, he would keep him for himself—No, don’t think like that, you stupid Lan.

He sits down in front of Wei Wuxian, glancing at the way he stares at his abdomen with drool almost dripping from his mouth, taking pride in said reaction. He, too, remains out of the water from the chest up.

"What would you like to know?"

Silver eyes twinkle at Lan Wangji's response, seeming to grow a little more relaxed.

"Well, whatever you wish to tell me! Like how your brother and uncle are, or how you have changed since you were little—truly anything. I’m not picky."

Wei Wuxian tilts his head and stares at the dragon until he exhales and rests himself on one of the tall rocks, letting his muscles rest for a bit. Lan Wangji hopes that the cold water will ease the burning sensation on his limbs.

"My brother is… kind. He is more talkative than me—"

A memory of his brother's smile silences him. Lan Xichen has always carried an air of kindness and softness, as if you knew that if you asked for help, he wouldn’t deny you whatever you needed.

"Our uncle is strict. He is the one who took care of us when we were little, since our parents’ passing."

Golden eyes slowly open, glancing at Wei Wuxian's face, wondering if there will be the same pity everyone shows every time his soon-orphaned past comes to light. But there is none; instead; there is understanding.

"Do you remember your parents?"

For a moment, the sounds of the forest surround them without interruption, water flowing around their bodies, the buzz of the cicadas filling the air.

"...I no longer remember my mother's face, but I know she loved me and my brother deeply—"

He tries to recall her soft features, as beautiful as the creeping sunset, a woman who always brought Lan Wangji the warmth he needed when cold became unbearable. She was the same woman he had only met once every month for six years.

"—Meanwhile, my father… I practically have no memory of him. The only thing left of who he was are the rumors that surround our clan. Rumors that are more true than I’d like to admit."

Suddenly, the water feels chillier. The dragon's body begins to tremble; speaking of this matter is as unpleasant as he remembered. But at least, next to Wei Wuxian, he doesn't feel half as uncomfortable as he normally does.

Lost in thought, he didn’t notice when the fox began to step closer, the water barely even sounding at Wei Wuxian’s careful steps. Until he tensed at the feeling of two arms wrapping around his head, pressing him to a warm chest. It is warm and soft; the flesh of the one he desires brings him the comfort he needs.

Relaxing at the touch, he presses himself against Wei Wuxian's chest, the need and hesitation forgotten in the soft embrace.

"Thank you. For telling me this."

He starts to softly comb Lan Wangji's locks, treating him like the most precious treasure on earth. If dragons could stop time, then he would choose to remain like this: safe and comfortable, in a bubble just next to Wei Wuxian.

"No need to thank me… I also wish to know more about Wei Ying."

The dragon senses a smile forming on the other's lips, a silent laugh escaping him.

"You shall have everything you desire, Lan Zhan… should we get out? I believe there are many things we could speak about."

Wei Wuxian lets go of Lan Wangji's head, no longer pressing him to his chest, lowering himself to caress the dragon's face, both of them staring at each other. Lan Wangji moves his head to the side, placing a kiss on his palm, silently nodding and beginning to stand up.

"—Ever since my mother gave me that spoon of congee, I believe my taste buds died, and maybe that's why the only food I like is the spicy one."

Wei Wuxian walks around the cave they settled in. In the middle of the rocks, a deer is roasting over the rising fire.

"So I am always prepared with one of... this!"

Out of his pocket, resting in his hand now, lay a hot red jar filled with what appears to be chili oil.

"I cannot live without this precious invention! Long live the one who created it!"

His laugh echoes through the heavy rocks as Wei Wuxian sits next to Lan Wangji, letting himself fall without a care, pressing all his weight against the dragon’s side. Ah, if only he knew what his scent was doing to Lan Wangji’s current state.

"In Cloud Recesses, we do not spice our food."

After such terrifying words, Wei Wuxian clutches his chest as if in pain, wailing and choking out:

"Excuse me?! Oh, my poor Lan Zhan, I must show you what real food tastes like!"

Following the figure as he stands, Lan Wangji realizes the deer is probably fully roasted by now. Curious, he should have smelled the burning meat—but all his nostrils catch is the spicy fragrance of the man beside him. The heat is beginning to feel unbearable, far stronger than the little fire from this morning.

Wei Wuxian returns, holding a piece of meat between two fingers, lightly blowing on it. Kneeling in front of the dragon, he opens the jar of chili, placing a very generous amount on the meat.

"Here! Try it! You won’t regret it!"

Lan Wangji swallows. He would have liked to taste another kind of spice, but maybe this will do… if he survives to tell the story that is. Slowly, he leans forward, taking the offering into his mouth, tongue brushing against the huli jing’s finger, trying not to chase after the flesh.

Unfortunately, looks like he won’t even be capable of sharing the same air as Wei Wuxian again. The moment the slice touched his tongue, it burned like fire. Never in his life had he thought he would live long enough to taste such inferno. How can the fox even eat this without grimacing?!

"How is it? Did you like it, Lan Zhan?"

How could he dare to ruin such enthusiasm? With great difficulty, he nods, sweat trickling down his face, blood boiling like an active volcano. Thankfully, he finally manages to swallow, throat burning every time that… that *thing* touches his flesh.

"Pfff hahaha! Aiya, Lan Zhan, if it was too spicy, you shouldn’t have eaten it! I hope you don’t get a stomachache because of this—"

Turns out, acting as if the meat hadn’t turned his mouth to ashes  wasn’t as easy as he thought it would be.

"Wait a second here, I'll bring you a piece you can digest."

Don't go. A growl whispers inside himself. He should really leave—if this keeps on, he won’t be capable of enduring much longer. But of course, nothing ever goes as Lan Wangji plans, because as much as he tries to stand up, his legs don’t respond to him. He is ours. Golden orbs widen at those words. A very well known warmth is settling not only on his body but on his mind and teeth. His rut, his rut is beginning—

"Here, I've got some with no spice in it." Wei Wuxian sits in front of him, a pleased smile always accompanying those wonderful features. He tries to leave the bowl and step back to give the dragon space, but a sudden grasp on his wrist stops him.

"Stay."

More than a request, it sounds like a command—and Wei Wuxian tries to ignore the embarrassing tremble of pleasure he feels because of that. Coughing lightly, he once again sits down in front of Lan Wangji, watching how the taller man eats.

"Seems like you liked it~ I may not be that good with spicing things up, but I always know when a piece of food is at its right point!"

What a beautiful creature, Lan Wangji wonders, not paying attention to what he is saying, only getting mesmerized by how the fox glows every time he does anything, whether it be laughing, talking, or simply breathing. What was he getting worried about again? It mustn’t be that important.

"Wei Ying likes cooking?"

His head is growing kind of hazy, a throb in his canines turning into the necessity to bite and claim.

"Not that much. If you want me to cook an entire buffet, I won't be capable of doing it... but I do know how to cook a deer, right?"

Wei Wuxian stares at Lan Wangji, tilting his head a little. The dragon seems to be lost in thought; maybe his dumb talk is beginning to tire him out.

"My rambling is probably boring you, Lan Zhan. Talk to me about something else, something you particularly like, for example!"

Lan Wangji remains silent for a second, golden eyes starting to glow with an unnatural light, drool threatening to escape from his mouth—

"Wei Ying. I like Wei Ying.”

"..."

In that exact moment, Wei Wuxian thinks, have I died and ended up in heaven? and can merely stare at Lan Wangji, blinking like an idiot. A dangerous blush is beginning to spread all over his face; at this rate, he will look like a tomato. But he cannot help it! The shyness and happiness are taking hold of him—

"Ah—haha—I—I... I'LL GO HUNT FOR SOMETHING ELSE, BE RIGHT BACK!"

Loud steps resonate through the ground as Wei Wuxian tries to walk out of the cave, a sign of a fast retreat fueled by mere disbelief. Did Lan Zhan truly say that? It cannot be! He places both palms against his face, trying to understand why the hell he left so abruptly and if, by doing it, all his chances are ruined—

—Fortunately for him, he doesn't get far enough before two strong arms cage him against a sturdy chest with crushing strength, a sandalwood scent the huli jing knows all too well surrounding him.

Stars are what he sees, momentarily disoriented. Air completely abandons him, a sudden rush of want surrounding the shorter male, who can only breathe heavily and look up at the dragon preventing him from escaping, feeling the hot breaths from Lan Wangji against his sensitive ear. "L-Lan Zhan? You okay?"

There is no verbal response, only the soft pressure of a head beginning to rub itself against the top of his head.

"Wei Ying. Stay.”

He swallows, ears twitching, heart pumping like crazy. With a trembling body, he looks up at the man holding him so strongly, staring at the dragon he so much adores. Lan Wangji keeps his head buried against his head, so he is not capable of looking at those golden eyes he’s been furiously desiring for the past months.

With frustration, Wei Wuxian tugs at his white tunic, gaining his attention.

"D-do you think you have the right to hide your face from me after—after uttering those w-words?"

A pout peeks out, winning Lan Wangji's full heed.

Shining like the sun, Lan Wangji faintly smiles, his gaze glowing with adoration and more than just lust, momentarily less clouded, drawing near and placing his forehead against Wei Wuxian's. He laughs softly, enjoying the gentleness of his dragon. Who would've imagined his fuddy-duddy could be such a softie?

The song of the night surrounds them; both are standing near the entrance of the cave, so the blue light from the moon is gently placed over them, caressing their features while they get lost in each other. Wei Wuxian is also holding Lan Wangji, clutching his arms and preventing him from even thinking about loosening his embrace. If he could stop time, this would be the perfect moment to do so.

They get close, closer, just enough for their lips to touch, skin meeting, and hesitation disappearing, finally drowning into each other without a care in the world. At first it seems like a gentle kiss, but soon enough, it turns more heated, more desperate.

They taste the flavor of flesh, saliva, and want. None of them had ever kissed before, so it is messy, but not the bad type, because they cannot get enough of the other. Wet noises echo through the cave, canines clashing against each other, creating a clacking sound. Tongues coming out to meet for the first time, the reptile-like tongue encircling the other, causing a moan to escape Wei Wuxian's lips. Lan Wangji groans and sucks at his lover's lower lip, taking the plump flesh inside his mouth and lightly biting it.

"Mpph! A-are yo—mgh—a dog, Lan Zha—mghaa—"

The words barely come out. Lan Wangji cannot handle a second without those lips over his, a frown growing between his brows, the need to fully consume the huli jing burning inside him.

Unconsciously, he begins to grind his hips against Wei Wuxian, savoring the feeling of those soft mounds welcoming him. The fox wails and, too, rocks his hips against the growing bulge, slick starting to flow out of his wanton hole, desiring for that big cock to fully breach and fill him. His nine tails go around them both, deciding not to intervene and preferring to settle on the dragon’s hips.

Lan Wangji’s arms untangle from Wei Wuxian's front, and while Wei Wuxian’s hands go up to caress his face, the dragon's hands go down to grip those hips and suddenly press them even further against the hot swell of his dick.

Moans, gasps, wails—it is all music to Lan Wangji's ears, the sound of his lover's ecstasy and want. Wei Wuxian grinds against the cock which is insistently pressing between his clothed rim, imagining what it will feel like when it enters and breaks him from the inside out, chuckling at the feeling of it getting even bigger. Will it really fit?

Wei Wuxian's one hand maintains Lan Wangji's mouth caged against his, while the other makes a futile effort to keep balance, clutching at the white fabric of his robes. But the moment his grip on that nape momentarily staggers, the dragon takes advantage, and after licking at the wet cavity, he instead goes down for the vast expanse of the his neck, tasting the flavor of sweat. Tangy and sweet, addictive.

Nostrils flare at the taste of that skin, hips grinding faster against that ass he so much wants to take hold of, spread, and plunge into the dripping entrance awaiting for him.

"W-Will you fill me, L-Lan Zh—ahh-, will you impre—mgh—impregnate me? Fill me with your eggs? AH!—"

Lan Wangji growls and bites at Wei Wuxian's throat, not caring about the blood staining the porcelain skin. Fingers digging into the flesh of his hips to an almost painful extent, pressing his cock at the only barrier keeping him from taking what belongs to him.

Ahhh, Need you—need you in—mgh—inside~ Please, please, please—”

Lan Wangji bites at Wei Wuxian’s shoulder blade and buckles his knees, making sure to have a steady hold on his lover before lowering them both to the ground. Wei Wuxian’s body acts like jelly, unable to move or think on its own, so the dragon turns him and grabs at his back, pulling the silver-eyed toward him.

Lan Wangji gently begins loosening his grip, giving little pecks to Wei Wuxian’s face, placing him on the floor of the cave, nine tails untangling from his waist, acting like a soft cushion for Wei Wuxian to rest on. Their kisses turn a little more tender, like sloppy, short touches against their lips.

They look at each other with fire in their eyes, silver and gold melting together like the most perfect combination. Lan Wangji drinks in the sight of the huli jing, robes slightly open, skin flushed like pink candy, gleaming with sweat. Shining eyes crystallized with silent tears of lust, mouth open in out-of-breath little puffs.

Truly, everything about this man is… is just perfect. But for some reason, that thought alone makes his chest hurt with something he doesn’t want to recognize.

Angry at his out-of-place hesitation, the dragon takes advantage of Wei Wuxian’s gaping lips and lunges forward, once again claiming that mouth while allowing his hands to travel to where the huli jing’s robes are closed, starting to open them, already sensing the hot skin underneath.

Devouring his beloved, Lan Wangji once again grinds his hips, the erection growing with every second that passes, while Wei Ying reciprocates the movements and wiggles his ass cheeks, needing to have that dick break his tender insides.

Just when Lan Wangji is about to go down to the milky white chest that is already uncovered, Wei Wuxian gasps and breaks their kiss, breathing heavily, barely managing to whisper:

“W-wait just a second, b-baobei… Hahh, I need just—a breath.”

There is no anger, fear, or any type of negative feeling in those words, and yet they act as a detonator to Lan Wangji's conscience. His hands freeze, stopping right over the already open robes, golden eyes breaking out from a long haze, blinking and trying to regain consciousness.

He stares at the man under him, the neck which used to look so wonderful with his marks now haunting him.

...Did he hurt Wei Ying? Did he do that?

His gaze widens in horror, staring at the stained face thanks to the tears, the way he tries to catch his breath, those... those red, blood-like bruises staining his beautiful neck.

But worst of all? The dragon's bulging erection pressing against his still clothed ass. What has he done?

With shaky hands, he immediately begins to cover Wei Wuxian's body, ignoring the confused whimper he gives at this.

"Hah, L-Lan Zhan?"

But Lan Wangji doesn't listen, a ringing settling in his ears, sweat trickling down his face, stricken with what he believes is the worst crime he has committed. Making sure to fully cover Wei Wuxian, now checking for any other injury, fearing he might've done anything else. Mumbling quiet’s "I'm sorry" and "forgive me.”

He is just like him. Just like his father. No matter how much he tries to fight against those repulsive instincts, he can't. Because he is just like him. The son of the dragon who ended his partner's life in the most abominable way possible.

And now... now he's hurt the one and only person he ever wanted to cherish and care for the most. Wei Wuxian is injured because of him, wounded because of him.

He must get away from him now.

"Lan Zhan!"

The other exclaims, stopping Lan Wangji from standing up. He didn’t even realize when his feet had started moving. The fox's hands are clenching his sleeve with inhuman strength, violently shaking. Not knowing which of them both is the one trembling.

"Don't—don't you dare leave... Not now!"

His head is bowed, raven-black hair dripping like the black night over his red and black robes, creating a river of blood and sadness.

Lan Wangji swallows, a lump forming in his throat as he realizes Wei Wuxian too is shaking, little stains of tears forming on his tunic, eyes hidden from his gaze. He must be scared, must hate him.

He tries to get away from him, rocks cracking under his weight, steps faltering every time Wei Wuxian manages to pull him closer.

"Wei Ying. L-... Let me go. Now—"

"D-Don't speak such—such nonsense!"

His long nails tear the white fabric, using all the power in his arms to not allow the dragon to get away. As he begins to look up, showing Lan Wangji what he's done. The fox is crying, infinite tears falling like a waterfall, fangs poking out thanks to the growl escaping from his lips, silent sobs echoing through the cave, which has long gone cold.

He cannot handle it. Directly staring at the pain of his own making, regret and anger gripping his heart like the heaviest burden. Looking away, Lan Wangji takes his arms away from the other's hold. He lets his sleeves get torn off, the remains tangling on the huli jing's nails, gaining a devastated wail from Wei Wuxian, who can only embrace the broken fabric.

"Asshole—sniff—asshole—why the hell are you leaving?!"

Because I will hurt you again if I stay, those words remain unsaid. Instead, Lan Wangji steps back from the crying man, whispering once again: "Forgive me."

The heat of the rut has long been forgotten, now a mere reminder of the part he most hates about himself. Fleeing as fast as he can from the place, forcing himself not to look back and not comfort Wei Wuxian, who still remains on the floor, thinking about what could've been.

-

Qingheng-jun, a name known to him, a face almost forgotten. The name of the man who was supposed to be one of his core figures, but instead, a past that would forever haunt him.

Lan Wangji had grown up surrounded by gossip. Even if it was prohibited to do so, the members of the clan only followed their own rules when it was convenient.

He remembered a time when he used to patiently wait for his mother’s call; her face now remained blurry, but he could clearly recall how beautiful she was… and how sad she always looked.

Even as her features were now unknown to him, Lan Wangji could clearly remember the hurt he always felt every time his mother would look at him.

Because underneath her love, a deep misery remained buried. She would cuddle him and gently place her lips against his forehead, laughing at the way the tiny dragon would recoil and try to escape her embrace, only for her to hold him tighter and sometimes even tickle him.

From now and then, his honey eyes would gaze at the moon the next day after meeting with his mother, the longing palpable inside. Lan Xichen then would come to him and place a blanket over his shoulders, coaxing him into going to sleep, not realizing the way his little brother’s hands would curl into fists, nails ripping skin under the pressure, fighting the need to cry.

"Why can’t I see her?"

The question had escaped his lips without permission, staring at the tallest man he had ever encountered, a man who should’ve brought him comfort and warmth. The dragon he was supposed to call father, and yet, could never do so.

"Because that is how it has to be."

It was a simple answer, cold like the snow, and sharp like a knife. In that moment, the little dragon sensed Qingheng-jun’s anger. It was… scary how his father would always speak of his mother like… an object, something which he had under his control and would have to stay that way until her imminent death.

Golden eyes, which still could shine with innocence, a heart which still could break the ice. The understanding hadn’t yet settled on him. The fact that his mother was in a cage, that his mother, no matter how fast she would like to run, how much she would like to step out and meet with the villagers, how much she would wish to see him and his brother every day—she would never be capable of doing so.

"I’m sorry."

His uncle uttered those words one white day, a cold day which had been completely covered by snow. He couldn’t understand it, didn’t want to understand it, even as his brother cried, even as his uncle looked away and tried to remain as strong as possible. He didn’t want to. He wanted to see his mother, to hug her and keep her safe, maybe even laugh at one of her futile attempts at telling jokes.

That day, he had clenched his fists once more, bitten his lips until they bled, and ran as fast as he could. It was prohibited, it was prohibited to run, but it was also prohibited to gossip, and yet none ever cared.

The whispers, the stares, the pity in their gazes—it all dawned over Lan Wangji like a heavy storm, feeling the sudden clash of thunder on his chest, little feet losing their balance, and finally, falling over the white snow, the same one which now covered his mother’s home.

He didn’t know how many days had passed. He didn’t care about the cold biting on his legs, the way even his tears would freeze under the weather, or the way his mother never opened the door again.

Those golden eyes, which had been like a butterfly on his mother’s cage, now could only stare, and wait, always wait for someone that would not come back—

"She’s gone."

Lan Wangji flinched, his tiny body trembling more from hatred than cold. That voice—the voice of a man who should’ve protected his mother, the voice of a man he should be capable of calling father, but never being able to.

"...Why… why didn’t you protect her?"

Tears began flowing again, breaths shallow, uncaring of the ice entering his chest, freezing his heart and soul. Little hands clenched his white robes, which had long since gotten soaked under the touch of snow.

"...I did… and one day, you will understand it."

A ringing took place in his pointy ears. What did he just say? Lan Wangji looked back to where Qingheng-jun stood, and he wished he would’ve never done so. Because if he couldn’t recall his face, then this certain expression would remain in his memory till the day that he died. Because in that man’s gaze, there didn’t remain love, nor loss, but the quiet eyes of a predator who had managed to catch his prey and hadn’t let go of it until it withered with time.

A memory flashed through the fog of fear: a certain day he had tried to go and meet his mother a few days before he was allowed to do so. His steps had stopped the moment he was close enough to the Gentian House; what he saw made him go quiet and still, little feet glued to the ground.

Staring at the way Qingheng-jun was holding his mother’s arm, the way she was wincing in pain, looking at the man with burning hate, and most of all, fear. While the taller dragon only looked down at her the same way he now looked at him.

Lan Wangji forgot everything about the snow, or the burns which now remained on his knees, because now a deeper pain which would never go away had settled.

It was you.

-

Deep in the night, the stars once again dance over his head; once again, he finds himself in the same landscape where he met the dragon who stole his heart at first glance. Wei Wuxian inhales and exhales, staring at the entrance of the cave in which he knows that same man remains.

He should be pissed, he is pissed, but the feeling of anger gets easily overwhelmed by sadness and worry, because in those golden eyes, which he always found calm and stoic, as if nothing bothered him—except when Wei Wuxian teased him—there was fear.

The honey which once was sweet as the sun had turned into terror in the mere span of seconds.

He has an idea of why the dragon acted this way; he just didn’t think a beautiful moment like theirs would trigger it. ‘Especially if said person is insecure,’ the words his sister had told him some time ago resonated through his skull.

Later that day where they had fought over a silly necklace, after spending some time with his siblings, Wei Wuxian had decided to investigate who Lan Wangji really was.

He spent a full day hunting gossip, old tales, everything related to the oh-so-pure Lan Clan from the heavens, the motherland of white dragons.

And what he figured out was more than he could have ever imagined. His silver eyes and fluffy ears had taken in information related to Lan Wangji’s mother and what her future had been in the hands of the late Qingheng jun, a man who inspired more fear than respect.

In that moment, a deep disgust tightened his guts; he placed a hand over his mouth and had been barely capable of not crying at the thought of such an innocent creature having to endure what Lan Zhan did.

How could he be… so cruel?

Wei Wuxian remembered the smile of his own father then, not imagining how he would have felt if he had passed through the same as Lan Zhan. It was in that moment that a deep resolution settled on his core. He would get to know everything about Lan Zhan, and not only that, but he would stay with him no matter what, no matter how many times he would have to reassure the other that his feelings were sincere. He would stay.

And that is why he is here now, only for Lan Zhan—as much as his previous retreat disoriented him quite a bit—so he takes one step, then another, beginning to smell the unmistakable scent of a dragon in rut. How did he not realize sooner?

Cold sweat runs down his face. Nobody would ever dare set foot on the territory of a dragon in heat unless they want to die. But, well, Wei Wuxian has always gone for the impossible. And a part of him knows that Lan Zhan would never hurt him. So he ignores the tremble in his heart, the urge in his feet to flee, and the nervous twitch of his ears. He will not back down. He will not leave Lan Zhan alone.

You are my one and only.

-

He stares at the claws which used to be fingers. They are long, white, deadly. He doesn't like them. Lan Wangji is currently in the phase of the rut he most despises. The feeling of having his body mixed like some type of failed recipe.

His eyes travel down to his arm, which is beginning to grow covered in more silver-like scales, they feel cold against his skin, they itch and scratch, the dragon fights back the urge to rip them off.

Closing his eyes, while trying to remain conscious, he remembers the first time this happened. He had been fourteen at the time, one night he had awoken soaked in sweat, breathing heavily with the feeling of his flesh being tormented by a bunch of insects, except, they weren't insects, but scales.

They shouldn't have appeared, he didn't want to switch his form, it made no sense. And of course, his half asleep and fully scared brain did what he thought would be better: ripping them off.

By the time his brother had reached his chambers, worried by the thick scent, he had already turned his arm fully red with blood. Lan Xichen screamed and cried for help, terrorized at the sight.

In the end, his arm ended up with not many scars, but the fear was still there, the fear of one day waking up full of scales once again.

Now he no longer feels fear, but disgust. This form, it does not belong either to the dragons nor humans, it is only a reminder of where he comes from.

The air tickles his body, surrounding Lan Wangji into a deep slumber of cold, the same cold he has felt his entire life, a cold he got used to...until months ago, with the presence of someone he dearly misses, and knows he cannot possess.

Now staring at the entrance of the cave, to where stars rest in the night sky, he wonders where Wei Wuxian is. If maybe now he hates him. He wouldn't blame him...but still the thought makes Lan Wangji tremble and try to curl on himself, sheltering his broken body from the world he cannot dare to reach.

That is until his fog of misery gets interrupted by soft steps, the sound of feet crushing tiny rocks catching his attention. At first, he wants to convince himself that it must be an animal, but the most rational part of his brain knows that only one person walks like this, sounds like this, and most of all—smells like this.

"..."

Lan Wangji doesn't dare to look back, his form is hidden from view thanks to the shadows dropping over him, and yet, the shame of his being only grows under the attention of his beloved.

"Lan Wangji."

Wei Wuxian moves closer, knowing where to head, following his heart and nose in the direction they tell him to. He clenches his fists, already trembling at the heavy scent of dragon rut.

"Will you come out?"

He waits for an answer, but none comes, he tries to squint his eyes and search for Lan Wangji's form, but the only thing that momentarily greets his eyes is the sight of shining scales through the dark. The body doesn't seem to move, but only retracts, trying to hide away what little part comes into view.

Wei Wuxian exhales, and with a frown between his eyebrows stops walking and stands close enough to see at least part of the silhouette.

"Why are you hiding?"

There is no accusation in his voice, in fact it's gentle, soft, warm, everything that describes Wei Wuxian's presence. And Lan Wangji cannot handle it, he digs his claws into his arms, curling into himself.

"...I...I will hurt you."

The words come out strained, like a subtle whisper which gets carried by the wind, chilling the air around them both. Wei Wuxian's frown goes deeper, and he tries to get closer to the other, but Lan Wangji begins growling, and unfortunately, Wei Wuxian's alert system gets activated, a sudden need to escape overwhelming.

But he will not.

"Aiyo, nobody would actually believe that. Is this your futile effort to drive me away?"

The dragon doesn't answer, but dares to look in his direction, honey eyes shining under the shadow. Their light, which was always warm now remains cold, staring at Wei Wuxian with nothing more than regret... and an unbearable love he cannot get to fully hide.

"You shouldn't be here."

At these last words Wei Wuxian crosses his arms over his chest and breathes a light chuckle, looking at Lan Wangji with what surprisingly is not hate or fear. He doesn't understand it.

"I can be wherever I wanna be. You should already know I will follow you till the depths of the earth if I have to."

Lan Wangji cannot help but widen his eyes. How can the huli jing still utter those words? After everything that happened? His reptile tail moves from one side to another, seeming to want to reach out for Wei Wuxian, but Lan Wangji quickly yanks it away with all his force, pinning it to the ground.

Wei Wuxian takes the opportunity and steps closer, managing to at least get a glance of what Lan Zhan looks like. The dragon startles and falls back, trying to hide once again, fearing the look in Wei Wuxian's eyes... but... in that gaze, there is only… wonder.

Silver eyes are glued to him, shining like two moons, mouth slightly parted, and a deep blush beginning to spread. Wei Wuxian had just witnessed one of Lan Wangji's other forms, and he cannot be more amazed.

His pale skin now is covered in several places with shiny scales which resemble the most brilliant star, pupils thin like the one of a serpent, fangs poking out of his mouth, demonstrating his status as one of the most dangerous predators. Pointy ears which now have turned blue at the tip. Smooth horns slightly bigger than usual. This is the man he loves, the man who came from a broken home, and still, stole his heart away.

"... Lan Zhan, I do not fear you."

Lan Wangji inhales, trying to convince himself he is hearing things. That is until an angrier voice comes through—

"Don't act as if I wasn't here. I....Lan Zhan, I—I know what your father did, and—"

He cannot get to fully end his sentence because Lan Wangji turns to him with uncanny speed, staring at him with terror in his eyes, fully expecting the judgement and repulsion anyone reasonable enough should get. But his gaze slowly transforms into confusion, because Wei Wuxian isn't wearing disgust, but sadness.

"...I wish to be with you— I...I want to stay by your side, more than anything...Lan Zhan, I—"

"Don't—"

The fox freezes at the sudden interruption, waiting for what Lan Wangji has to say, already getting a feeling of what it will be.

"Don't...don't give me your love, I do not deserve it... no matter how many times you say I do."

Wei Wuxian remains silent, looking at the silhouette which only curls further with every second that passes, wishing he could get closer and give it a tight hug, a hug that would stop his trembling.

"...Do you really believe I didn't want what almost happened just mere hours ago?"

Oh now he is getting pissed.

"Do you really believe if I hadn't wanted it, I couldn't have pushed you away and ended you on the spot?! Don't underestimate me Lan Wangji, I wanted— want to be with you, and I will not tolerate you trying to tell me what I have to do or not. Because—...because if I decide to be with you, that is what I wish!”

A silent tear runs down Lan Wangji's cheek, catching the light and the attention of Wei Wuxian. The dragon is not the only one crying, now Wei Wuxian's own eyes are beginning to sting with tears. Gosh, he needs to get closer.

"...Wei Ying... dragons, Lan's especially, t—they can only love once. And they love with fervent devotion. A devotion which—"

He swallows, trying to remain steady at the sight of his love crying.

"—which can grow wicked...if I were to hurt you someday—"

"You won't!"

Wei Wuxian's legs tremble, a sudden wave of heat getting through his system. He believes he falls, already expecting the ache of his knees. Two arms quickly catch him before he crashes down. Claws digging into his robes, lightly touching the skin underneath.

The huli jing can't get to move a muscle, his body molding into a perfect vessel for a dragon's desire. He remains conscious, and can feel his shoulder getting wet, Lan Wangji's face is buried into the crook of his neck, tears flowing freely, just like the ones falling from his eyes.

His hands tremble, wanting to reciprocate the hug, needing to reassure Lan Wangji, fearing he will flee once again. He cannot lose him, not now, not ever. If Lan Wangji lets him, he will stay by his side, if he—

"Push me—push me away...push me away if...if you d-don't want me—"

The words fall down like fragile crystals. Oh, Wei Wuxian would be stupid if he ever dared to escape from this man, so instead, summoning all the strength in his limbs, Wei Wuxian moves his hands to gently press over his back, feeling how the claws which maintain him trapped slightly tighten over him. The natural fear never disappears, but it never takes control of him.

"I— I want you— need you, *hah*, adore you! C-cannot live without you—It can only be you!—"

Wei Wuxian sniffles, tightening his grip the most he can, inhaling the scent of his dragon.

"—I love you...Lan Zhan, w-won't you accept me by your side?”

A sharp inhale lands on Wei Wuxian's neck, the strong arms around him feel warm, just like a little home. Wei Wuxian smells the addictive scent of his partner, mind growing hazy, wondering if...this time, he will get his answer. Just when the heat begins to turn unbearable, a trembling voice whispers next to him—

"Want you—"

Wei Wuxian's eyes widen, the blush no longer being only from heat, but from an uncontrollable sense of happiness, tears flowing once again—

"Yes!"

"Need you, adore you—"

"Yes!"

"...Cannot live without you—"

The voice turns soft, like the gentle song of a bird which caresses Wei Wuxian's insides and turns them to a soft cloud.

"Yes!"

"It—It cannot be anyone but you!

"Yes!"

Their arms squish them together, incapable of letting go from one another. The air, water, or food no longer seems to be what they need to live. No, now they only need to be by each other's side, it is a need so strong that being apart for only a second feels like a sin itself.

The tears don't stop until moments later, until they realize the situation they are in. Lan Wangji is in rut, Wei Wuxian's heat seems to have been triggered by it. Their touches turn to a blazing fire inside them, needing to touch, kiss, claim and breed.

"Love you—I love you—"

That seems to be it for Wei Wuxian, hearing the man of his life whisper such words only causes him to wail, the need inside his guts something he can no longer ignore. With no sense of shame, Wei Wuxian begins to grind his hips downwards, humping the hard member underneath him, earning a delicious growl from his partner.

Fuck, he has been wet for so long, he cannot take it, Wei Wuxian needs it inside, as much as Lan Wangji does.

Without wasting any time, Wei Wuxian lets himself fall to the ground, tails serving as a mattress, his breathing heavy, full of lust, skin flushed and shiny with sweat, the sweet juice of passion.

Lan Wangji wets his lips with his long tongue, the scales on his face glowing with the silver light, fangs growing with the need to bite.

He takes Wei Wuxian's face in his palms, diving deep into the wet cave, tongues dancing together, having missed the feeling of their flesh together. The kiss is sloppy, saliva falling from both lips, Wei Wuxian's hands going up to caress Lan Wangji's face too, feeling the sharpness of his scales, and the softness of his skin.

The dragon can no longer control his hips, grinding them against Wei Wuxian's buns, causing the huli jing to moan against his mouth, beginning to also wiggle his ass in the direction of the hard cock.

Except now, something catches Wei Wuxian's attention, because there is not only one, but two erections poking at his still covered entrance.

"Ah—Lan Zhaan~ will you fit them inside?—mgh! Will you fill me?~"

His question gets quickly answered when one of Lan Wangji's hands goes down, his claws rubbing the fabric covering his entrance, already feeling the slick wetting the robe. A smile of satisfaction growing on his lips.

"Hah already so wet, so ready—"

Wei Wuxian moans, the claws of his lover pressing against the sloppy entrance, causing the huli jing to arch his neck in ecstasy, a long whimper escaping from his insides.

"L-Lan Zh—Ah! need it—please please, fill me—give it to me—please!—"

Lan Wangji wastes no time, momentarily getting away only to get rid of his robes, proud at the way Wei Wuxian's eyes widen in satisfaction at the sight of his naked front, the strong muscles shining with the moon, patches covered in cold scales, gorgeous. His clawed hands rip the robes off of Wei Wuxian's body, delighting at the sight of his naked skin.

"Ah! Lan Zhan! Those were m-my fav—AH!—"

Lan Wangji begins rutting both of his cocks against the wet entrance, the sweet smell of huli jing slick happily greeting him.

"Mgh you need it—don't you? hah, your hole is—is dripping with no shame—"

Wei Wuxian's back arches, hands gripping Lan Wangji's forearms, leaving deep red marks, the lust taking full control of his body, wanton moans no longer hiding, hips dancing and rubbing against the fat dicks, hole spitting as much slick as possible, needing for his dragon to impregnate him.

"Tell me—hah tell me how much—ngh, how much you want it—my love."

The words come out strained, Lan Wangji's hands go down to grip Wei Wuxian's waist, encouraging him to lift them even more up, and Wei Wuxian does just as he wants, following every command of his dragon—

"Y-you tease! Ahhh! I need it—need it so much, I want you—want you inside! Hurry, hurry."

Lan Wangji stares at Wei Wuxian's flat stomach, already visualizing how he will look when he is full and pregnant with his child, wonderful, he will look wonderful. And everyone, everyone will know, he was the one who knocked him up—he pushes only one of the hard phalluses, watching how the tip gets swallowed by the wanton hole. Staring at the face of his entire world.

The moans, oh, the moans Wei Wuxian lets out, the way his little claws sink down on the flesh of his arms, he is tight, so fucking tight, and it is delicious.

The huli jing had never felt something similar, he had masturbated, fucked himself on his fingers, dreaming of the day Lan Wangji would enter him at last. But gods never in his best dreams did he imagine it would feel this… crushing.

Finally, Lan Wangji presses his navel against Wei Wuxian's buttocks, they both groan, feeling the way Wei Wuxian's insides wrap around his erection in the most perfect way possible. The other neglected cock rubs against Wei Wuxian's own dick, sending flashes of pleasure through his body, wondering if it is really supposed to feel this good. Shouldn't it hurt? Shouldn't he bleed?

It no longer matters, tears roll down his eyes, pupils dilating, mouth gaping in wails which only encourage Lan Wangji even more to just… move.

The thrusts begin slow, fear still stopping the dragon from fully bullying Wei Wuxian's insides, that is until the huli jing breathes a heavy growl and begins moving his hips on his own, searching for the friction he needs. And that ends it, the consideration or hesitation, because Lan Wangji goes full on, snapping his cock against the dripping entrance, wet slaps surrounding the space.

Both scents mix, creating the scent of sex in perfect harmony. The plush walls of Wei Wuxian's insides greet and pull Lan Wangji deeper and deeper inside. Silver eyes rolling back, mouth opening, screaming for more, legs trapping the dragon and caging him without escape.

Lan Wangji's golden eyes remain fixed on the beautiful being he has underneath, his hands tighten on the waist, claws drawing blood from the tender flesh. Hypnotized by the sight of his lover's milky breasts bouncing with each thrust, Lan Wangji's mouth waters and itches, quickly moving his face closer and latching his tongue onto one of the pink nipples, earning a yelp from Wei Wuxian.

He whines and closes his eyes, barely handling not only a giant dick slamming his insides but now the hot wetness of Lan Wangji's mouth on his chest, wondering if he will lap at his nipple just like now when he begins lactating. Ah, he cannot wait to have a family with this man.

It continues on for a while, both of them resisting the urge to come, wanting to stay together as much as they can. But in the end, pleasure is unstoppable, and Wei Wuxian's cock, which had been leaking the entire time, begins to pulsate with the need for liberation, growls echoing around the no longer cold cave.

Lan Wangji notices it, and with a wicked smile, one of his hands goes down to begin stroking the cock of his lover, gently moving up and down, delighting in the sounds he hears.

"L—Lan Zha—Ah! W-wait! Wait—i-it's too much, too much! I—AH!"

So delicious, his Wei Ying, so perfect, so beautiful, so wonderful—

"Come—hah, come for me, my love—"

The feeling of the heated flesh around his throbbing erection, Lan Wangji’s dick pounding without hesitation at his needy hole, the mere thought of getting to have the dragon as his own just as he wanted for months, it is all too much, all too much for his oh so weak heart—

He can no longer last, splashes of white painting his abdomen, a long moan escaping from his lips, trembling with the strength of his orgasm. Walls clenching and searching for the so wanted hot eggs of his Lan Zhan.

Lan Wangji's hips stutter, shaking and going fast, faster, loving the way Wei Wuxian tries to milk him, and finally lets go, allowing the release inside the huli jing. Feeling how his cock swells and cages them both, little eggs and much seed fill Wei Wuxian's stomach with what will hopefully be their future baby—or babies.

Not believing this actually happened, could this all be a dream? Has the dragon fallen into a deep slumber which he will never wake up? It—it is all he dreamed of, getting to grasp at Wei Wuxian’s tender skin, getting to share his love without the need of restraint. He loves it, he loves him, every bit of him makes his heart flutter with a thousand butterflies. Ah, his Wei Ying, his beautiful Wei Ying.

Lan Wangji will give him everything he desires, whether be war or the heavens, he will grant it.

Coming down from the high, the rut and heat momentarily calmed down, Lan Wangji exhales and slowly gazes at the huli jing. The man is breathing heavily, eyes closed, face fully flushed, such a sight to behold. Lan Wangji tenderly smiles, placing little pecks on his mouth, cheeks, forehead, everything that he can kiss, earning a soft laugh from him.

"Lan Zhaaaan, why didn't you give me your bite? I was so excited to receive it!"

A cute pout forms on his lips, and the dragon obeys his urge to kiss it. A silly smile forming on Wei Wuxian's face—

"Forgive me, I— I want us to mark eachother when... if you wish for us to get married—"

Wei Wuxian's silver eyes widen, mouth gaping in surprise, tears welling up in his gaze. Lan Wangji's expression turns to worry, wondering if maybe he stepped too far. But the worry doesn't last long, because Wei Wuxian's smile comes back brighter and more beautiful than he has ever seen it, gently cupping the dragon's face and rubbing their mouths together, placing little kisses here and there.

"You truly are a sweetheart, aren't you?~ Haha, then I hope you hurry with proposing, my love, because I cannot wait to call you my mate~"

At the words, Wei Wuxian purposely wiggles his ass, walls still impaled with the now growing cock, which is still inside and has become hard once again. Lan Wangji growls and whispers back—

"Mark your words."

A full week passes. They surrender to one another more times than they can count. Not only do they enjoy the sex, but the way their souls now are attached, the closeness they had yearned for since they met. Now finally come true. Only the beginning, for many things still are  to come, shiny days beginning to rise.

EXTRAS:

1- “Little brother”

"Lan Zhaaaan, won't you bring me some loquats? Our little radish is asking for them again!"

And here we go again.

"Mn."

A vein pops up on Jiang Cheng's forehead, clenching his teeth with barely—well, not—contained anger.

"It's not even their season yet! Where in the fuck is he going to find loquats, you idiot?!"

If looks could kill, Jiang Cheng would probably be an igloo right now, because the icy glare Lan Wangji sends him is mortal. But who the fuck cares? Certainly he doesn't! And just before he is about to spit out some more complaints, the stupid dragon that he will now have to stand for the rest of his life speaks.

"Do not talk to him like that. Wei Ying, I will be back in a minute."

Lan Wangji walks to the swollen huli jing, who is gently patting his round belly, and places a soft kiss on his forehead and mouth, causing a little chuckle to bubble up from him.

"You better be back soon, I cannot spend too much time without you!"

"If he ever comes back—ouch!"

He rubs his ribs, staring daggers at Wei Wuxian, who is only giving him a half smile which means "shut up."

Finally, Lan Wangji leaves, allowing Jiang Cheng to breathe freely again, without the need to suffocate on the mellow atmosphere of the couple.

Wei Wuxian exhales and caresses his belly, smiling before punching Jiang Cheng once again, but this time on the head.

"Yikes, you truly have a knucklehead, don't you Cheng Cheng?"

"WEI WUXIAN!"

"A-Cheng!"

Jiang Yanli steps in, having just come back from serving the soup she made, searching the room for Lan Wangji but sighing at not finding him, frowning at her little brother.

"Do not yell at A-Xian, do you want to disturb the baby?"

Jiang Cheng's breathing stops for a second, trying to hide the worried glance he gives at Wei Wuxian's belly, not being successful though because the huli jing stares at him with a mocking smile.

"Shijie is right! What kind of uncle will you be if you cannot even handle your voice level?"

"DON'T EVEN DARE TO SPEAK TO ME! I still can't get over the fact you fucking got PREGNANT before MARRIAGE, I mean, YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THAT DRAGON—"

"Watch your words, Jiang Wanyin."

Jiang Cheng jumps on his seat, almost spilling his soup on the table. There at the entrance stands Lan Wangji, in one hand a full basket of loquats remains, while the other is gripping the door frame with crushing strength.

"Are you insinuating I am not loyal to Wei Ying?"

Jiang Cheng slowly stands up, staring to his side at the worried expression on his sister's face.

"I—"

"My love! Thank you for bringing them, can I have a word with you?~"

Wei Wuxian quickly stands up with his sister's hands support, taking Lan Wangji's sleeve and pushing him out of the house, while Jiang Cheng tries to ignore how, before disappearing, the huli jing takes hold of the dragon's neck and fervently kisses him before getting out of sight.

"...A-Cheng, you okay?"

He remains frozen in his place, a low mumble escaping his lips before walking away. His little flight doesn't last long before Jiang Yanli takes hold of his wrist, sending him a gentle look.

"Won't you sit with me?"

After a few seconds he lightly nods and follows his sister to the floor, sitting and crossing his legs with a deep frown. They both remain silent for some time, eating the soup which has already gone a little cold, but not less delicious. The only sound between them is the touch of the spoon against the broth. Until a certain huli jing appears at the entrance.

His bad mood had cooled out a little, but now looking at his brother the anger instantly boils again, refusing to gaze at his stupid brother who is wearing a stupid grin, leaning against the door with his robes outrageously open.

"Forgive me, forgive me, I'm back! Lan Zhan went to pick some strawberries for me."

Jiang Yanli turns to Wei Wuxian and smiles, patting the seat next to her. He happily steps closer, sitting next to his sister and staring at Jiang Cheng, who is doing his best to ignore his presence but cannot help looking down at his swollen belly, his frown softening just the slightest.

"Say A-Cheng, won't you speak to me? I want to know what my little brother is so mad about."

Wei Wuxian patiently waits, his hands resting on his baby bump, fond of his brother's attitude. Jiang Cheng can truly be the sweetest, can't he?

The grumpy man doubts for a second, not knowing if speaking his thoughts aloud will do any good, but finally giving up, already knowing that—at least in this state—he is not really capable of denying anything to Wei Wuxian.

"...I... I'm—worried. I mean what the fuck Wei Wuxian, you are fucking pregnant and...a-and I don't know if that stupid dragon is trustworthy— gosh I'm just... scared."

Jiang Cheng looks away, embarrassed at his own feelings. Until a light chuckle surrounds them and a presence sits next to him. He looks up and has a full view of Wei Wuxian's face, the face of his brother, the person he most trusts aside from his sister. Tears welling up in his eyes.

"Aiya Cheng Cheng—"

Wei Wuxian wraps his arms around his back, pressing his cheek against Jiang Cheng's head, while on the other side Jiang Yanli does the same and softly rubs his back. His face begins to turn red, not knowing how to handle such displays of affection.

"Lan Zhan is of my trust, I love him...and I know he loves me too. But I'm glad I have such a good brother to take care of me and my little one, wouldn't you agree?"

Jiang Cheng sniffles, lowering his head and letting some little droplets fall, looking at how the tears fall on his knee, next to the huli jing's round stomach. Jiang Yanli and Wei Wuxian stare at each other over Jiang Cheng's head, softly chuckling at how sensitive their little brother can get.

Wei Wuxian takes one of Jiang Cheng's hands, placing it over the place where his baby rests inside him, laughing at the way he stills and trembles, his palm cuddling the bump. A little smile growing on his cheeks, no longer caring to hide it.

"Hmp! He better have your looks, that dragon of yours gives me the chills."

The three of them laugh together, enjoying their meal while remembering old times, where it felt like it was only the three of them against the world.

2- His smile

Lan Wangji is walking towards their house. Of course, he didn't live solely in caves; he also has a cabin where he now lives a peaceful life with his beautiful huli jing, who has been relentless in his need for some alcohol.

The dragon is not stupid, and knows that Wei Ying isn't ignorant either, so the complaints about such need always get carried by the wind, never having actual weight. After all, Lan Wangji gives Wei Wuxian everything he needs all the time to be comfortable, certainly a few months without his precious liquid shouldn't be as tormentuous...right?

If that is the case, why is Lan Wangji staring with wide eyes at a certain bottle of alcohol standing on their low table?

He inhales deeply, hoping from the bottom of his heart that Wei Wuxian hadn't done what he is beginning to think he did.

Looking around, he searches for his future husband—or wife, how Wei Wuxian likes to be called—but doesn't find him on sight. Nervous golden eyes scan the room and finally decide to begin walking around the house.

"Wei Ying?"

There is no answer, and that only spikes his nerves. What if he got so drunk he got lost? Is he hurt? Has he fallen?

His anxiety comes to a halt when he visualizes him crouched searching for something inside the low drawers where they keep the glasses.

For a moment he gets distracted by the wiggling ass and nine tails moving along with it, a dark light settling on his honey eyes...desire which gets quickly forgotten when he remembers that his partner is pregnant and crouched, two words which shouldn't be in the same sentence.

He quickly walks closer, catching Wei Wuxian's attention, which only turns to look at him with the brightest smile. What in the world did he do to deserve such a view?

"...Wei Ying, what are you doing?"

Lan Wangji kneels next to him, receiving some of the little kisses he so much adores on the mouth. Wei Wuxian's ears go down in relaxation, for a moment forgetting what he was looking for, feeling how the dragon's arms surround him, cupping his round belly.

"Hmmm, searching for something."

Lan Wangji's interest perks up. Wei Wuxian is not that good at cooking, so he normally isn't by the kitchen unless it is time for eating.

"Can I know what it is?"

He asks, rubbing his forehead against the other's, placing a soft peck on it, separating only to stare at the blushing face of his lover. Wei Wuxian giggles and turns around with the help of Lan Wangji's hands which are carrying the weight of his baby bump. He surrounds his future husband's neck and brings him closer, placing a deeper kiss on his lips, murmuring against them.

"It's a surprise~"

Lan Wangji frowns, staring at the opened drawer, already fearing the worst.

"...Wei Ying, you are not planning to drink, are you?"

Wei Wuxian laughs aloud, letting his head fall over Lan Wangji's shoulder, his belly pressed between them.

"Aish baobei, do you truly believe me so reckless? Do not worry, I have...other plans for tonight."

He moves his head and licks at the dragon's neck, earning a deep grunt, feeling how the hands which are carrying his belly slightly tighten. But before Lan Wangji can act upon his behaviour, Wei Wuxian moves away, turning around to keep looking for whatever he wants.

"...Wei Ying, won't you let me help? Tell me what you need and—"

"Nope! It is a surprise and it was my idea. You don't get to steal it from me!"

Lan Wangji raises an eyebrow, not understanding what he means by that.

"My love, let me get it—"

"Lan Zhaaaan—"

The voice comes out muffled since the fox has his head inside the drawer.

"Won't you let me have some fun? Do not worry, I will have it in a second! Why don't you go and wait for me in the living room?"

The dragon huffs, not sure about leaving Wei Wuxian like this, looking at him and then looking back at the door. If it were up to him, he would search for what Wei Wuxian needs and keep him from being on the floor. But for this time he will let it pass...with one condition—

"I will stay here. When you need to stand up tell me and I will help you. I won't leave you here."

Wei Wuxian sighs and mutters something about "pregnant privileges." After a few seconds he exclaims,

"Yes! I knew there would be some!"

And slowly begins to come out of the drawer, with obviously the help of Lan Wangji which had been taking all the weight of Wei Wuxian's stomach without him realizing. Huh, so that's why he felt so light.

The silver-eyed man places what he found inside his robes with a devilish smirk, signaling to his dragon to help him stand up.

Already on his feet, Wei Wuxian quickly goes to their cupboard and brings out some of the grape juice Lan Wangji had made for him just a couple of days ago.

The dragon exhales in gratitude when Wei Wuxian *at last* decides to head towards the living room and—with again the help of Lan Wangji—sits down on one of the cushions. Taking out of his robes the amazing discovery which are...two little cups, placing them on the table next to the alcohol and juice—which had already been placed because Lan Wangji didn't let him carry it.

He pats the cushion next to him, awaiting for the dragon to come to him. Lan Wangji is slowly beginning to realize what his future mate will ask of him... and he cannot help but be slightly worried while placing himself next to Wei Wuxian.

"My love... you know, I've been missing dearly! My precious alcohol—"

He places his head on Lan Wangji's shoulder, slightly rubbing his cheek on it, already smiling at the way his dragon is beginning to gently caress his belly, placing a soft kiss on the top of Wei Wuxian's head.

"—well, I believe I've come to a solution! But of course, if you don't want to it's fine, I won't force you t—"

Lan Wangji places another little kiss on his forehead, nuzzling against his fragrant hair, causing him to turn all giddy and flustered.

"—to do it... eh, ah—well, I was wondering if, if you would drink for me... and I will drink the grape juice! No alcohol involved for me! But I gotta admit that I've been wanting to drink with you for a long time, Lan Zhan. So, well, if you would like to..."

Wei Wuxian turns silent, expecting an answer, not knowing that Lan Wangji made up his mind long ago. He already had an idea of what he wanted, and ever since the time they had met—even if Lan Wangji hadn't accepted it at the time—he had made a vow to do everything this certain huli jing wanted (as long as it wasn't too dangerous for any of them).

"Mn, as Wei Ying wishes."

A gasp sounds at his side, twinkling silver orbs staring at him, quickly getting closer, lips pressing a deep peck on his cheek, ears turning red at the affection.

"Then it is settled!” Wei Wuxian beams, “I will serve us both!"

He draws a little closer to the table, beginning to pour the juice and the alcohol into the little cups. This is fine, right? Well, he has never drunk in his life, but it shouldn't happen anything too bad... right? As long as he doesn't drink much everything will be alright.

Ok. Everything is not alright. Lan Wangji was foolish enough to believe that one or two cups of alcohol would not affect him deeply. Oh, how wrong he was. As right now, his face is pressed against the table, having fallen the instant he took a sip.

If he was conscious he would be embarrassed to display such a sign of weakness in front of Wei Wuxian.

"Lan Zhan! PFFFF—HAHAHAHAHA! O-oh— Oh gods this is—HAHAHAHA—"

What a heavenly voice, his foggy mind awakening from his brief nap, eyes slowly opening, realizing everything is swaying and that a very deep need to be close to Wei Wuxian is settling in.

"Aiyo, did you really get drunk with only one drop?"

The heavenly voice, with the sweetest scent ever, speaks once again, and he feels how a gentle touch tucks a strand of hair behind his ear. With half lidded eyes, Lan Wangji stares up, recognizing that beautiful smile he so much adores.

"Wei... Ying—”

He reaches up, cupping Wei Wuxian's cheek, touching the soft rosy skin, just like a feather's kiss. I love you, I love you so much.

Lan Wangji slowly raises his head, straightening himself, barely realizing the huli jing has two hands on his shoulders, helping him to get up. And just when he is fully upright, one of his pale hands slowly goes to caress Wei Wuxian's face once again, enjoying the feeling of his beloved's skin.

"L-Lan Zhan, you truly are shameless when drunk, aren't you?"

Wei Wuxian pouts, but in the end is unable to keep his smile hidden, letting his head press against his palm. That is until Lan Wangji looks down and stares at Wei Wuxian's pregnant belly, his gaze turning sharp and determined.

Taking his hand away from the huli jing's face—not before giving it another light rub—he scoops closer and softly lets his head fall on said stomach. Both hands going up to draw circles on it. Wei Wuxian chuckles, his body vibrating with the wonderful sound, one of his hands going up and combing the dragon's hair.

"Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan," he warmly smiles, "what are you doing?"

"Communicating."

He sounds so serious Wei Wuxian cannot stop himself from chuckling once again, his silver eyes staring at the man he so much adores.

"Oooh, really? And what is our baby saying to you?"

There is no response for a while, not until a low growl is heard from inside Wei Wuxian's tummy, ah, right, he didn't eat much this afternoon. He doesn't get to think much of it because the pure look of horror that Lan Wangji makes almost causes him to squeal in mockery, if it weren't for the fact that he finds this very cute.

"He is hungry. I must feed him."

The dragon tries to stand up, but ends up swaying and almost falling, if it weren't for Wei Wuxian who took him by the arms and rather roughly pressed him against the floor, forcing him to sit.

"Nope! You are staying with me, the little radish can wait."

A little pout is formed on his lips, catching Lan Wangji's attention, who moves closer and places a little peck on those plump lips, earning a tiny yelp from the other. How can this man be so perfect?

"Y-You... you are making me believe you were the one who seduced me instead of the other way around!"

He takes Lan Wangji's face in his palms, lightly squeezing it and forming a pair of fish lips.

"My Lan Zhan truly knows how to flirt, doesn't he?"

"Only with Wei Ying."

It comes out muffled, but no less sincere or serious, head moving to the side and placing a kiss on the other's palm.

"My Wei Ying."

Wei Wuxian giggles, being incapable of resisting his future husband, suddenly pulling him for a hug, both making sure to not crush his baby bump. Enjoying the warmth of the other, Lan Wangji's head pressed to Wei Wuxian's chest, while one of his hands combs his large strands of hair.

They remain like that for a few minutes, none speaking. The dragon finds peace rubbing his future wife's pregnant belly, while the other remains on his back, keeping him in place, making sure both are safe, while Wei Wuxian nuzzles against his head.

A foggy memory flashes through his golden eyes, some times where his mother used to hug him like this, treating him like a little bundle of meat which needed to be taken care of. He appreciated those hugs more than he let on, smiling at the way his mother would always pat him on the head and keep him safe with her.

"My mother hugged me like this."

There are no more words, just a simple sentence. Wei Wuxian knows he wants to say more, so he waits, eyes shining with the soft moonlight.

"...She... she also pinched my cheeks, wanting to see me smile." He stops, recalling how he would get all red and ignore her for only five minutes or less, quickly swayed by her kindness.

"...I wish I would've smiled back. That would've made her happy."

Usually his tongue is not this loose, but Lan Wangji guesses it only comes natural when he is with the person he loves the most—and because of the alcohol, of course—the palm which remains on the round belly begins to move once again, wondering if their baby will have the same eyes as Wei Ying. He hopes he does.

"...Lan Zhan—"

Wei Wuxian softly speaks, fingers moving from his hair to his almost closed eyes, touching the eyelashes and cheekbones.

"I... I believe she was happy, because she got to see you—with or without a smile."

Golden eyes finally close. Never had he felt so calm, so safe. Maybe Wei Wuxian is right, maybe his mother was happy with only seeing him. He will never really know. But these words, they make him feel better.

After a while, Wei Wuxian's soft voice comes up—

"Hey Lan Zhan, don't you think it's time to go and rest?"

The words come accompanied by a pair of lips pressing against his head. With a low grunt the dragon moves away from his chest, staring at him and slowly nodding, getting up with little difficulty despite his growing headache.

Now up on his feet, with a frown Lan Wangji stares at Wei Wuxian trying to get up by himself, and immediately lowers himself to take him into a princess carry, which ends with Wei Wuxian tightly clutching his neck, tummy pressed against his abdomen.

"My my, isn't your baba a strong man?"

Lan Wangji lowers his head and rubs his cheek against Wei Wuxian's head, not wasting any more time and taking them both to their chambers. The dragon kicks the door open with brutal force and stumbles inside, worry gripping at his chest with the outrageous thought of his Wei Ying not getting enough rest.

They settle on the bed, snuggling against each other, Lan Wangji hugging Wei Wuxian against his chest, their breaths growing slower by the second, a sense of comfort surrounding them. But of course, as perfect as the atmosphere is, they cannot get to sleep without one final declaration.

"Hey Lan Zhan—" the man mumbles, sounding already half asleep, "I love you."

Lan Wangji smiles, pressing himself even further against his little family.

"Mn, love you too.

Lan Wangji wakes up to the feeling of being pinched on the cheeks. Confused, he slowly opens his eyes, being greeted with the most beautiful sight of all: Wei Wuxian smiling, bathed in the sunlight, staring at him with that silver gaze of his.

The dragon smiles, ignoring how awful he feels thanks to the alcohol.

"Wei Ying? What are you doing?"

His smile only grows further as he says,

"Nothing... you just have a very pretty smile, Lan Zhan.”

3- Together

Lan Wangji steps outside, he has been thinking about something lately. An idea which he is not very sure about, he would ask Wei Wuxian if it weren't for the fact that not even he knows if it would be the right thing.

When the baby is born, they both will marry, and finally bind their fates together. He cannot wait to finally be able to call Wei Wuxian his mate, it will be the happiest day of his life...but...something will be missing. Lan Xichen and Lan Qiren.

The dragon walks through the grass, looking up to the blue sky, where the heavenly home of the dragon's rests. It's been many years since the last time he saw them. Lan Wangji wanted to leave the Cloud Recesses, but his family didn't want him to go. In the end, he left without saying a word, more than thirteen years ago.

His brother and uncle, none of them know about his engagement, or his soon to be born baby. Will they really not be there? Will Lan Wangji never see them again?

Those words had clouded his mind for some time now, so he came to the conclusion that maybe it was time to go and visit the Cloud Recesses, introduce Wei Wuxian to them, and have them attend his wedding...that's what he would like, but what if Wei Wuxian is not comfortable?

He sighs, closing his eyes for a second before a warm melody floods his ears, a very well known one, being played by a flute, the same he dedicated to a huli jing he had just met more than a year ago. A smile blooms on his features, golden eyes opening once again, now walking towards the gentle tunes.

Already getting to see the silhouette of a man, fluffy ears down in relaxation, nine tails twirling and flowing with the wind, black hair dancing as a pair for the air. Close enough, he sits down next to him, hugging him from behind, placing both hands on his very bulky belly, rubbing soothing circles on it, hearing a soft exhale from his beloved.

"Lan Zhan~"

Wei Wuxian turns to face Lan Wangji, curling himself against the dragon's body, pleased with the feeling of Lan Wangji's hands on him, one on his stomach, the other on his head.

"Did you enjoy my little concert?"

The dragon hums, nuzzling against Wei Wuxian's head.

"Of course."

He huffs, eyes closed, and lightly mumbles,

"Enough for you to tell me what troubles you?"

Wei Wuxian senses how the body pressed against him tenses, already knowing a response will take its time to appear. Deciding to give Lan Wangji time, simply remaining silent, sun washing over his black robes.

"...I was wondering something."

Lan Wangji's voice is gentle, silent, as soft as silk. His future mate truly has an angelic voice, doesn't he? He hopes his baby has this same voice, warm and gentle.

"My brother and uncle, I wish...they would come to our wedding."

Wei Wuxian opens his silver eyes, slightly moving to look up at his lover, staring at honey eyes.

"Can't they come?"

The huli jing asks with one raised eyebrow which threatens to cause a smile on Lan Wangji's lips.

"...We could go visit the Cloud Recesses and ask them."

He sounds more uncertain than he would like to. Deep down he knows Wei Wuxian won't deny him, but that doesn't make him less nervous, and so he begins to comb his unruly hair, placing his cheek against the soft head.

"Aaah I see I see, are you asking me to meet the family Lan Zhan?"

Ah his Wei Ying, always so funny when talking but gentle hearted. Lan Wangji loves him too much for his own good.

"Mn. Would you come with me?"

Wei Wuxian separates from the hug, only with the intention of being capable of looking at Lan Wangji directly. Both stare at each other, intertwining their hands, as if nothing else existed aside from them both (and the little radish growing inside the huli jing). Then Wei Wuxian smiles once again, fangs shining with the sun.

"I would go with you to the depths of the earth, my love."

The end.

Bonus scene:

Jiang Cheng yawns, it is already midnight, and this dang baby won't fall asleep! His shijie left to spend some time with her peacock of a boyfriend, and his stupid brother and stupid husband left him in charge!

He looks down, staring at the bundle of meat he is rocking in his arms, this little nephew of his. He is nothing like Wei Wuxian! Little A-Yuan is literally a copy-paste of his boring ass father, with the serious expression and everything!

The now uncle clicks his tongue, slowly getting one of his hands closer to the baby's face, lightly touching the rosy cheek, wondering how he could make him laugh.

"Hmmm, you look nothing like your mother, do you?"

Clearly the baby cannot understand him, but a little hand, with five tiny fingers, moves, grasping one of Jiang Cheng's fingers. Widening his eyes, he stares at the now smiling baby, who has begun to laugh and move around, but never falling—Jiang Cheng would never let him fall.

His expression softens, and a tiny chuckle escapes him.

"...Hah, I guess you did inherit your mother's insufferable smile after all."

He continues rocking the baby, the little annoyance he felt disappearing in an instant.
