Summary
It seems there's always a new problem for the Maou. With his powers nearly drained, Yuuri’s human and demon selves are at war- a war that not only threatens his ability to wield his powers, but also threatens his very life. As if that wasn’t enough… Bob has disturbing news about the barrier between the two realms, leading to Yuuri needing to make a choice. With life and death, and more, on the line, Yuuri has no choice but to face truths he's been hiding from. But making a choice is only the first step in a very long journey.
Timeline is post season 3 of the anime, picking up right after ep 117, but will be a little vague. Liberties taken with how some magic works. Honestly, after the first couple chapters, could even be read as Canon divergence or at any point of canon. There is slight non-consensual kissing in Chapter Six, but it gets shut down pretty quickly.

It was the anniversary of the YiLing Patriarch’s death.
One year had passed since Jiang Cheng of the YunmengJiang Sect had led the four major sects to end his brother’s reign of tyranny once and for all, and succeeded.
It had been one year of peace, one year of silence…
…and one year of fear.
No one was truly sure if the YiLing Patriarch was dead. He was, after all, someone so powerful that he could control the dead with the sound of his flute. Who was to say that he hadn’t managed to survive through some dark cultivation, or at least seek revenge as the most dangerous ghoul to ever walk the mortal realm?

A gentle touch stroked his back, and Wei Ying stiffened in surprise. He looked up to find pale-gold eyes staring down at him intensely.
He gulped.
“Are you hurt?” The young cultivator asked in a soft voice, as if he expected an answer— even though he was already prodding Wei Ying’s ears and legs to see for himself. When he didn’t find evidence of injury he seemed to relax. “Are you frightened?”
If Wei Ying were human, he would have blushed and tried to crack a joke to hide it. As a rabbit, he could only kick his feet like a shy toddler.
“Wangji? I heard a commotion. Is everything alright?”
With the swiftness of a child being caught up past their bedtime, Wei Ying was shoved inside a billowing sleeve.
“Mn.”

This is a ‘The Disabled Tyrant’s Beloved Pet Fish’ AU for Wangxian. That series captured my heart, so then this happened. For those who don’t know that story; you don’t have to read it to read this. I don’t follow the plot at all, and I even changed the premise a bit. It’s only loosely inspired by it.
Also just to be clear: Wei Ying is not a rabbit 100% of the time.
