Risky Business (If You Think Friendship is a Security Risk)

Summary:

Perry attempts to convince himself he and Stacy aren't friends despite playing videogames together

Notes:

Dragging myself out of writer's block and straight back into this fandom. I love these two.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Perry was doing his best to regret his life choices. He’d been hanging out with Stacy for almost a month now. No, not ‘hanging out’, interacting with in a manner befitting associates on friendly terms. They were definitely not friends, even if he sort of trusted her and she’d somehow worked her way onto his list of people he’d kill for. Not that she knew that. He was not even going to tell her he had a list like that.

“Hey Perry, want to test out this new video game I got?” Stacy asked from her spot on the couch, they’d been watching ‘Secret Romance’ for the past few meetups on account of it being a mix of soap opera and spy flick and thereby a mix of their respective interests. Watching it kinda just happened when they hung out in spite of Stacy’s belief that the romance was corny and his own inability to take the ‘spy’ elements seriously. After all, you cannot just defuse a grenade, he would know. Stacy gave him a sheepish look, “Ok, I was going to test it with Candace but she’s grounded for skipping school to bust the boys and I’m not patient enough to hold off for the next two weeks.”

Perry tipped his head, considering it. They did have time, although he was worried about Ginger showing up or Monogram calling him about Dr. Nocturn. Seriously, Agent O could get a vacation but he couldn’t? Furthermore, Perry was not exactly the sort who could be called a gamer. Still… it couldn’t be harder than flying a jetliner through a literal firestorm. He nodded and transferred himself to the couch while Stacy loaded the game.

The vehicles on the selection panel were, much to Perry’s amusement, based on real world F1 cars. Perry selected Vanderbeek’s on the principle that he’d driven it before. Stacy selected Dr. Doofensmirtz’s because it had a ton of special features. Perry had to laugh internally at the fact that he was getting to replay one of his more fun away missions.

Both took to the controls quickly, jockeying for first. Stacy was a good deal more clever than Doofensmirtz had been with her special tricks and claimed an early lead, nearly wrecking Perry in the process. Perry closed the gap quickly, only taking his paw off the controller to put his hat on.

Stacy gasped in mock offense, “Oh it’s on now!” She grinned as she released the marbles, forcing Perry to pull a side wheelie to avoid them.

“Krkrkrkrkr,” Perry fired back, flooring the metaphorical accelerator and breezing past her. That was his strength after all, this was the fastest car ever designed.

“Hey P, mind if I hitch a ride?” She fired the grappler, affixing her vehicle to the back of his car.

Perry just grinned, she’d actually fallen for it. He saluted her before whipping around the last hairpin, spinning his opponent into the guard wall and wrecking her as he sped past the finish. He had to complement the game designers for their physics.

“What!?! Perry!?!?!” Stacy gave him the best mock devastated look ever.

“Krkrkrkrkrkr!!!” He cheered, tossing his fedora in celebration.

“I demand a rematch!” Stacy challenged.

Perry dug out his phone.

Doesn’t Do Much: Only if you don’t mind losing again.

Stacy tackled him off the couch. If the rest of their hangout devolved into a friendly sparring match, that was between them.

Notes:

It's nice being back.

I actually have a big P+F WIP I'm bringing off hiatus so stay tuned for that (who knows how long I'll take)
