"I promise" (Lucanis/Rook)

Summary:

What happens when House Dellamorte disapproves of the romance between the elven crow Rook (Nifft De Riva) and First Talon, Lucanis? Will it be just post battle jitters making ant hills seem like new mountains to climb or will this be just as dramatic as Bellara's serials? "They put that in stories? In Antiva, that's just a regular afternoon." as Lucanis put it.

Notes:

Please note that this is happening post canon so things will be spoiled for Veilguard, Inquisition, and other dragon age games/material <3

Chapter 1: Regards

Chapter Text

The grey clouds broke to finally reveal rays of light that marked the end of the blight to end all blights. The taint from the Evanuris weakened every second once the fade was sealed with Solas, and every faction that raised their blade in support of Rook and her cause stared at the corpses of Darkspawn they had fought for what felt like years.

“Rook!” Lucanis exclaimed as he ran over to the shorter elf with long dark hair and picked her up. Not quite caring that the First Talon was making a scene in front of the Crows. “We sent those bastard gods our regards”

Nifft wrapped her arms around the Dellamorte as if he was a life preserver, her ear tips aflame as she stared into her personal demon’s dark eyes. Captivated by his dark coffee colored eyes that pulled the mage into some sort of trance. “We certainly did, those bastards won’t ever underestimate a crow-”

“Not only the crows, our regards, Rook.” Lucanis cooed before he moved to kiss her without another thought, but the kiss was brief but passionate- once he realized Teia, Viago, and the rest of the team were still there, they couldn’t quite melt into it as they wanted.

The cheap antivan cherry no.5 lipstick that Rook wore stained on his lips once Lucanis pulled away. Looking over at Teia and Viago, both wearing smug expressions. “Told you I heard an ‘I love you, rook’. I expect my 30 andris when we get back to the diamond” Viago said with a chuckle once his eye caught the transfer.

“You two were betting on us?” Nifft asked as she gripped the fabric of Lucanis’s outfit, not surprised one bit as she once did the same to a couple of other crows with Viago and Teia.

And on Teia and Viago with a couple of other crows.

“Shoulda known from the stare down at the bar” Teia remarked.
“Never thought the ever feared mage killer would be wrapped all around one of our mages”

“Just don’t tell Caterina, at least not yet” Lucanis said, his arm around the small of the elven woman’s back. “I want to properly tell her- maybe over a nice dinner, some expensive wine with you?” he suggested. Truth be told, Lucanis while he adored Nifft, how her voice comforted him and Spite, her scent, the safety in her arms- there was a worry that his grandmother wouldn’t look beyond her status as a lower crow and elf- especially after this.

But that was absurd! The elven woman he held close felled three so-called gods, she would definitely be accepted by his grandmother despite her clear differences. ‘She probably already knows Rook and I are together, we saved her from my shit head cousin-’ as if on cue, Spite piped up in his thoughts,

I agree, it’s quite hard to miss when you’re eye fucking each other

“Spite, hush” Lucanis muttered under his breath. Looking to the side where Spite stood, obviously trying to get Nifft to look at him too but Lucanis accidentally caught Nifft’s attention.

“Yeah hush spite, we’re having a nice moment after a long battle. Cards are when Lucanis falls asleep” Nifft quietly said. She didn’t have to hear him to know that Spite was being well, Spite.

A Spirit of simple needs I say-

“I would like that, Lucanis. But are you sure you don’t want a cup of that roast you were raving about at the cafe?” Nifft asked as she pulled at some of the chains of his attire as she spoke.

“Mmm.. You know too much, Rook” Lucanis playfully whispered in her ear. Making the pair giggle very softly, his hands moving around her body. “I’d say watch your back but your back is mine for me to watch anyway.”

“Is a room not optional?” Taash asked loudly. Their elven girlfriend, Nolari, sat on their shoulder as she fixed both Taash’s and her own braid so it didn’t slip from how Taash put it before the battle. Hypocritical but they couldn’t say much against them.

Lucanis opened his mouth to quip back but Nifft grabbed his hand from her waist and started sprinting for the eluvian without another word.

The team followed them back to the lighthouse- some with confusion others knew exactly what the two crows were up to so once they passed back into the lighthouse from the crossroads, they dispersed to do whatever.

Nifft and Lucanis? Once the doors to the meditation chamber closed with the doors behind them, Lucanis practically pounced onto the elf. Pushing Nifft against the door to lock lips passionately with the elven woman.

Nifft let out a small surprised noise as she kissed him back. Her hands gripping onto his armor to pull him deeper into this passion and noticing him picking her up. So she wrapped her legs around the fellow crow to keep her demon of vyrantium close and personal.

After a few moments Lucanis pulled away from the kiss, a string of mixed saliva still connecting them for only a second.

“Rook”

“Lucanis, I-”

“Hm?”

“It's Nifft, De Riva. But people think I'm saying Niffty so I just went by Rook- like the bird” Nifft spoke as she looked away, embarrassed by the notion that she knew Lucanis's name from the very start but he only knew an alias while they risked more than their own lives to save all of thedas from so called gods.

“I knew you were a De Riva, but never could've guessed that Rook wasn't your actual name"

“Lucanis, I wanted to tell you before but everything just kept esc-” Nifft was gently cut off by Lucanis guiding her face to look at his once again, a finger pressing up against her lips, and a soft shush. Calming her nerves.

“Shh.. You act like a name changes the woman who my heart beats for, the woman whose arms I look forward to falling asleep in every night.” Lucanis cooed in a hushed tone as he traced the elf’s painted lips with his thumb.”Speaking of, I remember a promise being made of be being able to rest in your arms once we killed those bastard gods” he spoke with low a seductive tone, smudging her lipstick just to tease the elf a tad.

Nifft’s cheeks heated a bit and the tips of her ears were a clear red. “Mmm I do remember. And if it’s alright could we just cuddle?” She asked, her grip still tight on Lucanis’s armor like a fade rift would show up and rip him from her.

“That’s more than alright, Ro-Nifft. We took down two gods and you outsmarted the literal god of lies and betrayal, we can definitely just cuddle tonight”

“That doesn’t mean stop kissing me though, vhenan” Nifft purred as she pulled Lucanis back into a kiss. Somehow more passionate then before as their tongues explored each others mouths, glad the other made it from the battlefield unscathed.

From the door to the chaise, the two crows were focused on only two things, each other and how their tongues danced in each other’s mouths.

Lucanis pulled back for air as he pushed Nifft’s dark hair behind her pointy elf ears, “Nifft” Lucanis started, slightly out of breath as he started to strip his armor to get comfortable. “I wanted to suggest we celebrate at my villa, vacation a little before the crows need their god killers” the dark haired man spoke as he watched Nifft start to undress so he could lay on her bosom without the feel of the leather of the crow outfit.

“I think that’ll be fun, especially since it’ll be my first rich people party that I’m attending and not fulfilling a contract” Nifft said as she pulled the older man into her arms to play with his dark locks that almost looked the color of crow feathers.

“You’ve never attended one of these things?” Lucanis asked, surprise in his voice.

“I’ve heard it’s stuffy from what little Viago has told me, otherwise I do what crows do, get in, get the target, get out. The one at your Villa when we took down your cousin was as close as I’ve gotten” Nifft said, a small smile on her face as she reminisced on some of the contracts she took that had the target stuck up in a villa similar to Lucanis’s. “Though that’s where dinner came from some nights. I’d sneak into a kitchen at night and just eat what I could before I got caught”

“Mierda, that’s you in the middle of the night? I thought Taash suddenly got light on their feet.” Lucanis asked, his head lifted to look at Nifft with a worried expression as he put two and two together. “Next meal, I’m giving you a larger portion”

“It’s just habits, Lu. I’m getting enough to eat thanks to you and your cooking- me and the team. Thank you though.” Nifft spoke, trying to reassure the dashing assassin she held that she ate her fill. Gently placing a kiss on his forehead, marking his skin with her signature lipstick.

“Good.” Lucanis cooed gently, his face in her bosom once more. Ignoring spite telling him to get more handsy with the elf, just wanting to listen to her breathe. “I’m still gonna give you that bigger portion”

Pop one of her titties out for me, please or let me talk to her

“You know we can rest now right?” Nifft softly said while she ran her fingers through Lucanis’s dark hair. Noticing him starting to doze but she couldn’t make too much of a fuss as her eyelids were just as heavy. “Saving the entirety of Thedas from elven warlords is no easy task, certainly takes it outta someone” she cooed as she twirled a lock of his hair around her tawny slender finger.

“Mm I know but with us like this I can’t help but try and stretch it out a little..”

“We always have tomorrow”

“We’re crows, you know tomorrow isn’t promised”

“Promised? Maybe not. But it is there, especially now that the Elevnuris won’t be an issue for the foreseeable future” Nifft spoke, her mind drifting off to sleep- the warmth of Lucanis being better than any blanket she’s ever had, the calmness she hadn’t felt since Varric recruited her for this shit show.

“I suppose that’s true” Lucanis said, his voice gentle before he looked up to see Nifft already down for the count. Her peaceful face just made the man smile softly as he gently traced the branches of the vallaslin then laid his head back down to rest with her.
