Work Text:

Goody loved when chocolate needed to be broken up for some of the pastries made in the bakery. Bayker kept a good supply of chocolate in big thick blocks in the back and one needed to be broken up for use at least once a week. The best tool for the job was a massive hammer. Goody loved being the one to swing the hammer. She could spend hours smashing up chocolate if she was able to.

Happily the Milldreadite stepped into the front of the bakery with a bag of freshly smashed chocolate slung over her shoulder. Bayker was hard at work kneading some dough and Saul stood by the front door, looking out for something expectantly. Goody took one look at Saul and giggled, giving Bayker a gentle nudge to make them look up from their work. “When is Byoolah comin’?” she asked.

“Hm?” the sheep looked up at Goody, tilting their head to the side. “How do you know Byoolah ith coming over?” they asked.

“Look at Saul,” she said, pointing at where the white rat stood.

Bayker looked and immediately saw what Goody was talking about. They clapped a hoof over their mouth, a sneeze covering up their laugh. “Oh! I get it…”

Saul’s tail started to whip behind himself as he spotted a figure from a distance. “Byoolah is here! He’s here!” he squeaked in excitement. He hopped up and down briefly before dashing out of the bakery, running to meet Byoolah halfway up the road. “Byoolah! Hullo, Byoolah!”

The papillon from HobbyHoo smiled and opened his arms, catching Saul as he dove into them. “Saul! Look at you!” His ears briefly flattened in worry when he got a better look at the other. “Are you okay?” he asked.

“Yes, why?” Saul asked.

“Yer eyes!” Goody called out from the doorway, “yer doin’ that thing with yer eyes again, Saul!”

Saul gasped, clapping his paws over his rapidly bulging eyes. It was something that happened when the priest got overly excited about something. His eyes would start rapidly bulging and he would grind his teeth. He was often scolded about this when he was younger, warned that this behavior was disturbing to others. “Oooh, Cob…” he groaned in embarrassment. “Boggle stop bogglin’,” he murmured to himself, pressing down on his eyes.

Byoolah smiled. He reached up and gently pulled Saul’s hands away from his eyes, letting his glasses slip back into place. “I think it looks really cute when your eyes do that!” he yipped.

“…do you mean that?” Saul asked. The HobbyHoovian nodded and Saul smiled, grinding his teeth in happiness. Byoolah’s tail wagged happily as the pair headed to the bakery, moving side to side in time with whichever eye bulged from Saul’s head.

“Those two are weird,” Goody laughed.

“We all are,” Bayker reminded her, poking her in the side with a hoof. “We’ll need another block of chocolate.”

“Oh!” Goody perked up at this at once, eyes glinting with glee. “I’ll get right on that!” she said.

The sheep baker chuckled, wiping their nose with a handkerchief before getting back to work.
