Chapter Text

John felt almost relaxed. It was the most he had ever felt like this in centuries.

He had to keep reminding himself that it wasn’t selfish to be taking this moment to himself. The Earth had just been saved. The Khan Mayker wouldn’t be sending demons to Earth. The Icon of Sin was laid to rest. Earth can rebuild. Warren was safe. Vega was safe. He was safe.

Warren shifted a bit. He glanced down to where Warren was curled up on top of his chest, asleep. He had rolled onto his back and was squirming. Probably a nightmare.

Carefully, he laid his hand on top of Warren. He was very careful to mind the bruises and not pin him down. After a few more moments of Warren tossing and turning, the little man finally seemed to calm down.

It was late. He should get some shut eye too. But it was dangerous to fall asleep with Warren literally laying on top of him. He ran his thumb against Warren’s side before letting a heavy sigh leave him. Warren could lay here for a little while longer. John would move him before he fell asleep.

Warren woke to the sun coming through the window. He shifted and buried his face down into the nice soft cloth he was laying on. That was much better.

While he wanted to continue sleeping, his body told him it was time to get up, so his body did start waking up. He felt the weight of a warm blanket over his legs, and the warm bed under him. It was very cozy.

A rumbling noise cut through the peaceful moment and Warren felt the bed underneath him move. He groaned softly to himself as the bed rose, and then settled back down with another loud noise. It was too early for John to be messing with his nest.

With a soft grunt, Warren opened his eyes and sat up.

He was not in his nest.

He was sitting on top of John’s chest. That was John’s fingers over his legs. His face started to turn red. He felt as John’s chest raised up with what Warren now recognized as a snore, and then settled back down.

“He snores.” Warren pulled his legs out from under John’s fingers. He briefly wondered about the mobility drone before he realized he would have to get off John without waking him. A man that had been fighting off Hell for more than a century (Warren was still trying to wrap his mind around John’s age) more than likely would not take being startled awake well.

It was hard getting up to his feet, and harder staying properly upright as he tried to walk off of his chest. The ground was certainly not one he was used to walking on. It shifted and moved underneath him, and the shirt that John was wearing had Warren’s socked feet struggling to maintain grip.

With a squeak, Warren stumbled over an unexpected fold in the shirt and fell onto John’s stomach.

The ground was a little squishier, and made uncomfortable gurgling noises. Warren tried to just get his feet back under him when he heard a hitch in John’s breathing. A loud groan filled the air, and then everything pitched to one side.

When everything stopped moving, Warren just counted himself lucky he wasn’t being squashed. He did have to squirm a little to get out of the tangle of blankets he had fallen in, but once he was free, he could easily see that John had rolled onto his side. The hand that had been covering Warren earlier was hanging off the side of the bed. At least the snoring had stopped.

“That was close.” Warren tumbled out of the tangle of blankets and then moved up towards his face. He had to climb over his arm, but at least he didn’t move during that. Soon Warren was standing just before his face, watching his boyfriend sleep. “We need to figure out a sleeping arrangement later.”

There was no response, of course.

Warren softly pressed a kiss to John’s cheek. “I’ll see if Vega can help me make coffee. You deserve some rest.”
