Buggy is a coward. He fights dirty and has no shame in doing so. He'd rather fight from a distance than get up close and personal. He's unstable, a mess, and more than a little insane. He would make a terrible marine.
And yet...Buggy the Clown, an (former) apprentice of the Roger pirates and holder of the Chop-Chop fruit, becomes a marine.

Garp blinked, tilting his head as he played up his cluelessness.
"His family connection?" Sengoku stressed.
"Last I checked, being related to me wasn't a crime," Garp said, deliberately obtuse.
"It should be," Sengoku muttered. "I meant the part where he's the son of Gold Roger! "
Garp started laughing. And then, once he started losing steam, he remembered that one time all three of the brats got trapped between the branches of the same tree, firmly stuck one above another like yakitori, and kept laughing.

Roger isn’t sure what he’s seeing, not at first. Bunch of dead marines, yeah, okay, made sense for an island that’s turned into an active warzone. Garp kneeling down in the middle of them? Crying? Didn’t make any damn sense.
It isn’t until he’s taken a few steps forward that Roger clocks how young these particular dead marines look, and then a bad feeling sets up shop in his gut.

Oh shit. That's a baby.
He turns to see the frightened shape that he originally caught his attention, and finds himself looking at a young Marine cadet, bleeding heavily from one shoulder and curled around a second baby, obviously twin to the one now held haphazardly in Roger's arms.

“We’ll find ‘em, brat,” Garp rumbles, his grim tone somehow reassuring. “And then we’ll get all three of you back on the mountain, where you’ll be safe. Where you belong.”
