Summary
The first lovespoon is not the last one, of course. It becomes a habit. Whenever Apollo can’t get Klavier out of his head, he carves a lovespoon. The first few are objectively awful, but each one is better than the last. And now he just has a jar of lovespoons in his living room. He can’t bear to get rid of them. It feels like admitting defeat.
Or: there's no better way for Apollo to express his unrequited feelings than to carve lovespoons he'll never give.

Summary
Klavier watched Apollo, laughing bright and loud and wonderful as his arm tugged Clay ever closer.
He doesn't quite know what it is. He's never seen Apollo smile like that before, never knew what his laughter sounded like without a tether. He sees an afterimage every time he blinks, his vision swimming from the glitter dancing in Apollo's eyes—this is what he gets for staring directly at the sun. Apollo bloomed for Clay when all Klavier had ever known was making him wilt, even when he's tried so hard to get those petals to unfurl. Apollo couldn't even stand to brush hands with Klavier.
