she finds the bracelet laid out over dark velvet in a glass case, next to a dozen almost exactly like it, but this one is special. there’s something about it that draws her in. hope van dyne is, truthfully, not particularly big on jewelry, not outside of the necklace she wears every day. but when she steps back out onto the sidewalk, it’s with the fine golden chain carefully boxed up in the deep pocket of her coat.

Summary
Scott gripped the closed door of her office and swung it open anyway, not bothering to peer through the glass of her window or knock or anything. Everyone knew who he was. Before shit had hit the fan (again), he’d had a habit of visiting every week (even several times a week). It might have been a little lovesick and nauseating, but everyone had gotten used to it.
“You went back,” he said abruptly, vocalizing something that had been on his mind ever since it had clicked in the quantum realm. Yet another piece of the experience that had stuck with him, unfurling in his mind and playing on repeat.
Of course, his timing was impeccable and as he became slightly more aware of what was going on, he realized he’d really flubbed this one.
She was sitting at her desk, staring at him in surprise with all of her monitors facing her, with little boxes on each screen filled with faces, all looking like a gigantic, very official Zoom call. She was even wearing her glasses. His face, once determined, slackened in realization and he leaned heavily on his cane, suddenly feeling out of place.

Summary
The thought that she had missed five years was still settling in her mind. It didn’t feel like five years- only a moment, but yet the gravity of everything she’d been absent from was very present. And her absence had very much weighed on Scott. He hadn’t said anything, but she knew him well enough that she could tell. She didn’t think he’d ever been this quiet in all the time she’d known him.
