In late January, 1984, Robin saw Steve Harrington stand stock still in the middle of the sidewalk, staring at a house with twinkling Christmas lights. She thought it was weird, but wasn’t going to comment and was about to walk around him when she realized his hands were shaking and repeatedly clenching and unclenching. And, because Robin could never leave well enough alone, she placed a hand on his shoulder.

All this to say that Steve kind of just lets things pile. And Eddie's seen a hell of a lot pile up before it makes Steve physically or emotionally unwell from the baggage. So when he walks in on fawn legs and almost trips over his own feet to get to his bed, Eddie can't help but be a bit worried for him.
"You good, dude?"
It's a pretty staple greeting. Other roommates make small talk or bitch and gossip. Eddie and Steve make sure the other isn't about to need a trip to the hospital. It works.
