"Rei was one of the few people in the world who knew who Shinichi really was. Also one of the few people who had more lies to keep track of than he did."

Summary
"It had seemed so clinical on paper: Amuro and Subaru fall in love and take guardianship of Edogawa Conan. Three people who didn’t exist reinvented into a perfect suburban family. In one stroke, Akai’s cover got more credibility, Rei got some much-needed backup, and Shinichi got to be himself again for the most part, with someone qualified finally watching his back. But there was nothing clinical about actually living together."
After a close call, Akai, Rei, and Shinichi take their undercover game up a level, reinventing their alternate identities into a family of convenience. And then become something a lot more irreplaceable than that.

Summary
“Zugzwang. It was a chess term, one that described an endgame situation of massive disadvantage. A single move that changed the outcome of the game from a win to a loss. Rei didn’t know what Shinichi meant by that. But it couldn’t be good.”
When a case goes wrong and Conan is kidnapped, Akai and Rei work to unravel his clues and get him back in one piece. But there’s much more at stake than it first appears, and the tension pushes Rei and Akai to the brink of fracture. And Conan’s determined to bring down the White Rabbit criminal syndicate—even if it costs his life.
Luckily, he’s got two people who will never let that happen.

Summary
"Rei knew what post-traumatic insomnia was. He’d had it a few times. But this wasn’t that. He was just having a little trouble sleeping—and if the nights he had trouble sleeping happened to coincide with nights when he dreamt about pulling Shinichi’s corpse out of the snow, his lips blue with cyanosis and his tiny limbs heavy and still, that was probably Akai’s fault for turning the thermostat down to subterranean temperatures."
After Shinichi's caught in an avalanche, Rei wrestles with nightmares of losing someone again - and with not wanting Akai's help, even if he needs it.

Summary
"Sometimes Akai thought, with the right training, Shinichi could be one of the best intelligence agents in the world. But right now, tying off the gauze around his tiny bandaged hand, he thought Rei was probably right. He didn’t want Shinichi to follow in their footsteps—not even walk in the same direction."
A small accident for Shinichi brings back a host of bad memories for Rei and drives a rift into the family. With Rei teetering on the edge and Shinichi pulling away, Akai tries to help Rei through it, even if that help is anything but welcome.

Summary
"From the moment he locked eyes with Rei across the poker tables of the underground gambling den, Akai knew there was going to be a trouble."

Summary
“Rei could probably use a little space tomorrow," Akai told him. "It’s…an anniversary.”
Shinichi knew that. He’d seen the date marked in UV pen on the calendar, the letters so tight they were almost illegible. The anniversary of a death—Morofushi Hiromitsu, a.k.a. Scotch. “Are you sure he wants space?”
Akai hesitated. “Well…I’m sure he doesn’t want anything to do with me.”
The first anniversary of Scotch's death since moving in together. Rei's not sure he's suffering enough.

Summary
“It wasn’t fair. All Rei wanted to do was spend Christmas with his adorable kid—preferably without any kidnappings or bomb threats this year. So why was he stuck in an unending Christmas romcom with Akai Shuichi of all people?”
Tired of watching Rei and Akai dance around each other, Shinichi decides it’s time for a little push. All’s fair in love and war.

Summary
“Sure that shoulder’s up for a match?” Akai asked, stepping in close enough to trail his fingers down the healing skin. Rei shivered—but it was cold in here. Akai kept his touch maddeningly slow, tracing fire down his forearm. “We could stretch out—limber you up first.”
Rei lifted his chin. “Trust me, I’m more than capable of putting you on your back.”
Akai chuckled, eyes twinkling. “Is that where you want me?”
Or: Akai and Rei put the last piece in place.

Summary
“He’s not really gone. Right?”
There was this vicious, ragged thing inside of Rei, something he was barely holding down. Maybe it was his heart, clawing to get out. He raked a hand through his messy hair.
“People die, Shinichi. And when they do, they don't come back.”
*

Summary
As if for the first time, Rei looked around at the family photos, the gleaming kitchen, the colorful dishtowels in easy grabbing range in case Akai needed swatting. The calendar on the wall was covered in little notations: mediocre, forgettable things, like briefings and dentist appointments—and unforgettable things, like Hiro’s birthday, the first year he’d been able to write it in. And at the end of the month, parents’ weekend at Shinichi’s college.
Sometimes Rei looked around and had to shake himself, almost didn’t know whose life this was. He’d always figured the only thing waiting for him was a body bag. But the Organization was gone. His deep cover assignment was over. And he was sitting here with Akai Shuichi’s head in his lap, not even wrestling with the temptation to strangle him. Or no more than usual, anyway.
***
A glimpse of the future for Rei, Akai, and Shinichi's lives after the fall of the Organization. Moving forward, but forever a family. Mission 110.
