They are important because on that day wizards usually discover the name of their (romantic or otherwise) Soulmate. Sirius knows neither him or Remus know how to be anything around the other but a lover.
Sometimes he tries to imagine going back to being just friends, rebuilding themselves instead of trusting head first in their previous relationship.

Summary
Soulmates are a fundamental part of everyone's life, but they aren't always so important.
Marcus plans his wedding and he falls in love with the wonderful life he was given, the one that has given him Ollie to love and who has brought back his sister from the grave and that can’t be anything other than perfect.
Lucretia lives her life and she mourns all that she has lost, everything that fate has taken away from her (but her life isn’t only made of mourning and Reg’s eyes become more alluring with every passing day).
