Summary
It was a very late Friday afternoon. The campus was pretty much empty at this point, which only made Aye’s predicament that much worse. Had he not stayed at the university library so long to study for that exam that wasn’t even until two weeks from now, he wouldn’t be running for his life right now. Had he not forgotten his phone charger at home this morning, his phone wouldn’t be dead right now and he would have been able to call someone for help.

His brain was muddled with panic, the only coherent thought being run, run, run, get away! as he tried to put as much distance between him and what— who— was following him as possible. No one was supposed to see him leave. He thought he had been careful!
He could hear the sound of big paws hammering the ground coming from behind him; his pursuer was steadily gaining on him. He chanced a quick glance over his shoulder only for his throat to seize up in panic when he saw how close the big grey wolf chasing him had gotten already.
He urged his own paws to work impossibly harder, faster, to get him away, but he had already been pushing his limits before. It already felt like the muscles of his limbs were being torn open because of the work they were being put through.
And then he stumbled.

It all boiled down to self-centered people with a superiority complex, lack of empathy, and an inclination to pure cruelty. Humans and faeries lived harmoniously most of the time, but the current human king had no qualms to look the other way when the fae on his land kept getting wrongfully tortured and killed.
A pained yelp caught in his throat as his arms were suddenly wrenched above his head, and hands pinned them there. The man above him shifted his weight, taking a better position, and the cool surface of metal touched the base of one of Aye’s wings. Pure, unadulterated panic swelled inside him.
