Summary
Strangely enough, it mostly resembled a snowy mountaintop, with the dark lines of headboards and footboards that poked through the sheets standing out like evergreens against ski slopes. As Gordon watched, an opening in the ceiling at the far end of the room made a clanking sound, and a brand-new bed dropped onto the pile that came to a peak below that wall. It was disturbingly wet-looking.
“What the fuck is this place?” Gordon said quietly, not expecting an answer.
Of course, that meant he got one.

“No, I'm – I didn't. I've had a boyfriend for over a year.”

“Yeah, Tommy likes everyone.” Darnold slid back into the conversation, a dark blue long-necked bottle in one hand, a plate of olive-free canapes in the other.

“What did you do?” Darnold asked reasonably.

“Tommy -” Gordon shifted his weight to glare over his shoulder. “Your highness, respectfully, shut the fuck up.”
“Okay!” Tommy said brightly, and Gordon turned back and shoved the bard through the doorway and into the hall beyond.
“We're done for the day,” he told the hopeful supplicants waiting in the hallway. “There's a dragon, apparently. Ask the bard, he'd love to tell you.” Then he ushered the farmers and guards out as well and slammed the doors.

“Are – are we?” he chokes out instead.
“Yeah. Best friends,” Benrey nods, then holds out a hand. “So, uh...come with me? Please?”
