Summary
Scott looks around at the other vampires in the room briefly catching each of their eyes.
There are not many differences. Almost all of them have red eyes, excluding Drift and obviously Cleo, but that's just a sign of vampire power increase. Apo’s are newer and not as vibrant red, so it can’t be that.
He almost misses it but after looking at Pyro, who is looking at him already and perks up at his sire's attention, he spots it. The shine. He looks at all the others and they all have a very subtle and easy to miss shine. Even Drift, but not Cleo.
Scott grins looking at Cleo and his red eyes gain this faint glow to them. Cleo notices it almost immediately and looks away, focusing on their conversation with Owen, pointedly avoiding his eyes.
Found it.

Summary
“Well, your loss. The longer you're here with us, the much harder it's going to be to convince them you're not one of us.” Scott says and he hears a faint sizzling behind him and he turns his head, locking eyes with doctor Legundo for a split second, seeing the doctor's eyes widen for a second before he starts running.
Well, that's not good.
“Pyro, you know what to do.” Scott says and Pyro takes off in a chase after the doctor.
Scott’s eyes lose their glow before he turns back to Avid. “Oh, well, Legundo’s gonna die now.” he says as he lunges away, joining Pyro in the chase ignoring Avid's protests.

Summary
“Pearl, I don't think you win this.” Scott says running towards an open field.
“Oh, come here." Pearl says, still chasing him. As they reach the middle of the field, Scott stops and turns to face Pearl. She doesn't hesitate swinging her sword directly at his neck and he backs up just in time. Her next swing slashes on his left side so he moves to the left, narrowly avoiding it again.
The relentless swipes continue for a bit before Scott grabs her wrist that holds the sword and brings it high in the air. He grabs her waist pulling her forward so they're face to face. “If you wanted to dance you could have just asked me.” Scott says teasingly.
“There’s only one person I'd want to dance with, and it's not you.”

Summary
“Really!? Really? That’s why you’ve killed Pearl? That's why you've killed Sausage?” Legundo shouts.
He’s not allowed to kill Pearl now, that was before. He hasn't been killing enough.
“These were my ideas.” Owen yell back at legundo.
He’s getting tired of this back and forth.
“Really?” Legundo asks with an eye roll. “Because Scott seems to think he’s the one in charge of everything right now.” And Owen can't help but laugh. When he’s finished, he looks down at the doctor with a gleeful expression. A shine now more prevalent in his eyes.

Summary
“I wanna get out.” She mumbles while walking along the wall, her hand feeling its perimeter.
She can't leave.
“I don't want to kill them all just to go back.”
She can’t leave.
Apo runs along the wall, her eyes start to water as she mumbles. “I just want to see her again.”
She can’t leave.
Apo looks around and spots a chicken standing to the side of her. “Does that mean I have to kill?” she asks the chicken.
The chicken clucks back at her and stares at her face.
She can’t leave.

Summary
Would Cleo know what's wrong? And if she knew, would she say something? As if having the same thoughts as him, he sees Cleo see the shine in the town's eyes and visible tenses. That is not good. Cleo knows something, and it's not good.
Cleo had met his eyes and briefly relaxed before looking at Pearl to the side of her.
What happened that could have caused this. Once is a mistake, twice is a coincidence, and three times is a pattern. But what is the factor? Owen was fine the night before. He had gone out with Pyro and Scott but neither of them had the shine. Was it one of them?
Apo had also apparently fought Scott at his castle the day prior from when he noticed it in her eyes. Wait. Scott had just talked to the town. He had arrived late, and so had Pearl, Martyn, and Cleo. It’s Scott. Scott is the common factor.

Summary
Avid immediately tries to justify himself. “You used to make fun of my clothes. So, I figured where else would I get the best clothes but you know, from your closet.”
And… He can't even be mad about that. He has a damn good point.
Scott sighs “You're annoyingly right.” and Avid brightens immediately turning and showing off the outfit.
“I wore it better but he does look good.” Scott cuts in inspecting Avid's outfit more. Avid finally sees Drift's outfit and immediately looks at it. “Drift, you look spectacular.”
“Thank you. I was trying to go for a little bit more of a bad look, you know?” Drift points out and Avid confirms, “Yeah, I get it, I get it.”
However while Avid, Shelby, and Drift were talking about their outfits, Scott's gaze drifted towards Apo. She stood silently off towards the side just observing. What caught his eyes though was something that slightly worried him.
The shine in her eye was different. It was bright, and in any other case this would be a good thing, but it was more of a shimmer.

Summary
“I waited where I left you and you just never came back.” Scott says deadpan looking at Avid who's on his right side.
“I definitely was looking for you and I shouted your name and I couldn't see you anywhere. So I figured you went this way.” Avid explains twiddling his thumbs.
And he’s impressed at Avid's thought process. Maybe he’s not a lost cause after all.
“Honestly, I’m proud of you. Well done.” Scott says, smiling at Avid and he brightens in the praise. Scott was about to continue when he felt a pressure he never noticed lifted from his mind.
Scott schools his expression as he looks at Avid's eyes, immediately noticing the lack of the subtle shine.

Summary
As Owen is complaining about Apo, Scott hears a faint yelling coming from the left of him right outside the town of Oakhurst. He turns to see Avid running towards him with Martyn and Doctor Legundo chasing behind him.
“We got company.” Avid yells immediately hiding behind Scott when he reaches him.
The other vampires pull out their claws and start to approach the humans. Scott sighs following them with Avid right on his tail. Now standing closer to Oakhurst, Scott can see Abolish putting out some of the fire on the wall as well.
“Well, seeing as you liked fire so much, we thought we’d bring it a bit closer for you.” Scott says, glaring down at the humans.
“Why are you burning something that actually belongs to us?” Martyn questions. Stop has to tone down his annoyance as he responds. “Because we don't like you. I thought that was abundantly clear.”

Summary
Scott hears Avid before he sees him. Deep unnecessary breaths greet his ears. They're frantic and inconsistent. There’s sometimes quick short breaths and other times long pauses in between them. It's unnatural and inhuman.
When Scott finally lays his eyes on Avid, he can see the fledgling is wrecked.
There are tears staining his cheeks that won't stop flowing. His eyes are red from crying, and his voice is broken.
Someone hurt this poor boy. Who would ever do something to him? What did they do to leave him like this? Who does he need to kill?

Summary
The small room stinks of rotten blood. In the far corner of the wall is a blood splatter and right below it is Avid. His eyes are open and panicked, his gaze distant. There are claw marks tearing open his suit, not his, it's Avid's now. There is dried blood on the wound and his skin is paler than it has any right to be. Right in the center of his chest is a stake pushed deep inside.
He wasn’t sure what he was expecting. Maybe he was hoping for nothing.
“Oh Avid.” He said softly as he approached the prone form on the ground. He kneels down and brings his hand to Avid's face, cupping his check. “Poor innocent Avid.”
