Summary
Eddie Diaz is a 16 year old ballroom dancer with an immense amount of pressure put on him by his parents. When he meets Evan, younger brother of fellow dancer Maddie Buckley, his life takes a turn for the better, and becomes a lot more complicated.
Neither boy says anything as they walk, but when Eddie stops in front of a door with “Buckley” posted on the front, Eddie realises something.
“Wait, Buckley?” He asks.
The boy nods, looking a bit confused. “Why?”
“Are you Maddie’s brother?”
The boy’s confusion morphs into surprise. “Uh, yeah. You- you know Maddie?”
Eddie nods. “We met a few years ago. She basically adopted all the younger kids as her siblings and we’ve been to a lot of the same comps.”
The boy smiles softly. “Yeah, that sounds like her.”
“She talks about you a lot.” Eddie says. “Though I’ve somehow missed your name.”
“Oh.” The boy says, then adjusts his crutches so he can hold out his hand for Eddie. “Evan.”
Eddie takes his hand and tries to ignore the butterflies that erupt in his stomach at the contact. “Eddie. Diaz.”
“It’s nice to meet you.”
“You too.”

The boy hums thoughtfully, then asks, “Do you know my name, then?”
Eddie shakes his head. “Nope. Somehow I missed that.”
“It’s Evan.”
Evan. His brain repeats.
Eddie stops walking again, and holds out his hand. “Nice to meet you, Evan. I’m Eddie. Diaz.”
Evan makes sure his crutch is tucked securely under his arm, then quickly takes the offered hand.“It’s nice to meet you, too.”
