He paces the length of his office with one hand running through his hair, pulling slightly in an attempt to stave off the building anxiety. Just when he’s about to hang up, the line connects.
“Alex? Is everything alright?”
“Henry!” Alex lets out a sigh of relief, but the relief is short lived because… “Where are you?”
The silence on the other line answers his question, but he waits it out, hoping Henry will prove him wrong. “I’m almost done at the shelter.” Henry finally admits, the sheepish tone in his voice that would ordinarily be soft and endearing now just infuriating.
