If he could reach him, he had a feeling he would be lightly smacking him on the cheek to get his attention.

Erik was still terrified of any physical contact, but sometimes his starvation of it won over fear. He cautiously took Charles’ hand in his, staining his skin with blood.
“It’s over now, my love” Charles said. He wished he could caress Erik’s face with his hand, smear the blood there, bring him closer. He waited instead, gazing at Erik with an inviting smile. It was so warm and soft, like Charles’ smile always was; it almost made Erik forget about the red ink Charles spilled all over the world.
“Charles…” he whispered, unable to say anything else.
“It’s over. They can’t hurt you now, they can’t hurt anybody. Never again”"

And now APA guidelines are shaking in their boots, because the accused has cheekbones that could cut glass, stormy grey eyes, and a dedication to cross every professional boundary ever made ever.
