Summary
2,800 miles. 10 states. 2 roommates. 1 car.
When Chito finds himself needing to get to California for the summer, Bob has a solution: rent a car and drive all the way from Villanova to San Francisco. Now the two boys are taking an SUV full of stuff (and snacks!) coast-to-coast down the Interstate-80, getting sick of American food and learning about state mottos, themselves and each other.

Summary
Giving the rosary to Chito is a kind of safekeeping, isn’t it? He’s entrusting a part of himself—he might even dare to say his heart—to someone who he knows will take good care of it.
Chito might not be totally confident in his vocation just yet, but Bob is sure that, regardless of which path he chooses, Chito will bring his love of God and his desire to serve others into it completely.
(He wishes, hopes, prays that Chito will choose the priesthood.
It’s not an entirely selfless wish.)

Summary
“Oh, you better watch out, you better not cry…” warble the Jackson Five from just underneath the horn of a freight train. Chito, who has already heard this song five times since the Prevosts picked him and Bob up from St. Augustine Prep about three hours ago, praises God for the loudness of the train horn—and all the irritated car horns around it—so that he would not have to hear the song a sixth time.
From up in the front seat, Mr. and Mrs. Prevost are both fretting.
