Perhaps the biggest mistake Shen Qingqiu makes in this moment is not his confidence in Luo Binghe’s abilities nor the potential ripple effects of the changed situation surrounding his broken seal: it’s that he doesn’t think to be cautious of Luo Binghe.
Shen Qingqiu, in his years in this role, has never harmed Luo Binghe. He hasn’t betrayed Luo Binghe yet. Shen Qingqiu has become far too accustomed to their easy, fond companionship. He forgets, in this moment, the way qi balance shifting wildly out of equilibrium can make people behave in unexpected, unpredictable, often violent ways.

But the incongruence between that curve and the dim glaze of his eyes is too obvious to Liu Qingge, and he has to hold back his worried thoughts. "Holding an umbrella for this old man, how noble."
Liu Qingge can't help but think that for Shen Qingqiu, holding an umbrella is the very least that he would do for Shen Qingqiu.

A few months after the Immortal Alliance Conference, Shen Qingqiu begins having nightmares of a life that isn’t his own. A life where he is a small slave boy, used by his master as more than a punching bag. After a few nights, these dreams begin to bleed into his life, to the point where he can’t differentiate what memories are his and which ones are Shen Jiu’s.
The other peak lords take notice how strange Shen Qingqiu is behaving. How they can no longer touch him without seeing fear in his eyes. How he quickly loses focus and seemingly forgets where he is. The Peak Lords realize that they need to figure out a solution when they are no longer able to treat him for Without A Cure without risking a qi deviation.

It's raining now, thumping softly against the roof overhead and making the bamboo of Qing Jing Peak rustle softly outside. But that morning it had been clear and crisp and perfect...except for the lack of sparring partner. Other matters had then kept Liu Qingge busy until now.
