Summary
Since the beginning of Avalon, the Knights of the Round have served Kamelot. Unfortunately, they are no longer the beacon of hope they once were. Tarnished by the growing corruption in Kamelot, they are nothing more than figureheads of everything wrong in the lands. The newest Lancelot, Esyllt Lace, finds herself wanting to bring about change. Yet, her pleas are disregarded as the world crumbles around them.
One night, bathed in ale and spite, Esyllt meets an errant figure hiding from someone--or something. He is carrying a lot of secrets, and he knows more about the problems that plague Avalon than Esyllt. They drunkenly make a pact to save Avalon and seal it with a kiss.
The next morning, Ser Gawain of the Round Table is found dead, and the blood seems to be on Esyllt's lover's hands. She is tasked with avenging her fellow knight--like a quest of old. Yet, unlike those gallant tales, this one is threatening to spiral into the end of Avalon. And worse yet, Esyllt is not allowed to forget the part she played in the beginning of the end as new life sprouts within her, tainted by the wyrdness encompassing them all.
