Harry had a guardian angel, in a sense. Someone who changed faces like clothes and asked him to call himself Tom. He knew Tom wasn't a guardian angel for real but he felt like it, because there was no such thing as magic. Years of building trust and healing Harry while keeping him relatively safe, making sure that he wouldn't return to his relatives after his first year in Hogwarts and one soulbond later they found themselves falling in love with each other. To Harry's annoyance, Tom had surprising morals for the Dark Lord and to Tom's frustration Harry was a horny teenager.
