Summary
Maybe Shane Hollander is boring, but he likes boring. And Scott Hunter is also kinda boring so Shane should like him, too. Right?
Or, Shane hooks up with Scott because that's totally a better option than his fucking rival and he definitely doesn't think about Ilya the whole time...

Summary
This couldn’t be happening.
He brought up his trembling hand and slowly reached behind his ear, refusing to believe what he logically knew he would find there. As soon as his fingers touched his skin, he felt them: little scar-like raised bumps, scattered in a circular pattern that he had never touched before but that he already knew was unique to only two people in the world. The skin there felt warm, sensitive to touch and he quickly took his hand away, still in shock.
Shane looked up and met the pale wide-eyed face of Rozanov, who was similarly holding the right side of his neck and then promptly lost his mind.
A neural bond, his brain supplied robotically. The kind that he had learned about in school since the first grade, that he had seen in movies and heard about in music, the kind that he had seen in his own parents his entire life.
His soulmate. He had found his soulmate. At the ripe age of seventeen.
Ilya Rozanov. A fellow hockey player. A rival.
And a man.
Or: Shane and Ilya are soulmates and have loved each other from the beginning. It's still not enough.

Summary
“He’ll never forget anything about their first night. Or any night he shared with Ilya. Every detail has been etched into him. Without them, he wouldn’t recognize himself. Without them he was blank.
Stop thinking about Rozanov. Fuck.
He seeks new memories. New… etches.
So when future archeologists dig up his bones they won’t read them like a love letter to Ilya Rozanov.
Shane knows it’s risky.
But he doesn’t know that tonight he won’t be etched, he’ll be broken.”
When Shane hooks up with a stranger after a game, he thinks the worst that could happen is getting outed. He is wrong. What was meant to be a night to forget all about Ilya Rozanov, becomes a night when he needs him most.

Summary
"You're supposed to smoke over there." Someone said from behind Ilya.
Ilya almost dropped his cigarette. His English was shitty, but he had studied that sentence enough times over the years to understand it immediately. He didn't even think about his words much anymore, but it was impossible to avoid them.
He turned instinctively, and was face to face with Shane fucking Hollander.
Out of almost seven billion people, of course Ilya's soulmate had to be his fated rival. It was almost poetic. Still, Ilya had enough sense to realize just how bad this was.
or, Shane says Ilya's soulmate words. Ilya vows to never speak a word to him to keep him from finding out. They fall in love anyway.

Summary
All soul bonds differ in type and rarity, with common ones including couples having tattoos of each other's names, a unique soul mark, or even the first words they spoke to one another written on their skin. Less common are the types where soulmates can communicate by writing on their skin, or an emotional type of telepathy that sounds panic inducing to Shane at least.
Shane has the rarest bond of all, he can’t see color. At all.
Or: How Shane and Ilya's handshake might have went if they had a soul bond
