Jasper’s hand lays over his heart, and his whole body jolts without moving. Those terrifying eyes stare at him, and he stares back even as the pulse pound of his heart roars, thumpthump thumpthump, a pace that Jasper can surely feel under his hand. No heat seeps through the touch but the press of it roots him even as it unmoors him. Jasper has moved closer somehow, the negligible height difference between them means that they’re now eye to eye. He wants to blink; he wants to look away; he wants to flinch.

As an operative for Talamasca, Guy keeps meeting Jasper, a vampire whose hatred for the Talamasca is entirely warranted.
Despite their inherent conflict, a dangerous spark ignites between them, ensuring that their every meeting ends the same way: with their bodies entwined, his flesh pierced by fangs. Each time, Guy promises himself it's the last one; a declaration he’s made so often it’s less a promise and more of a habit now.
He ought to despise and fear Jasper. He understands this. And he knows Jasper has all the reasons to despise him. Thus, every meeting brings him this chilling thought that tonight, he will take his life after all. And yet, his heart stubbornly keeps beating.
The reason behind it eludes him.

Jasper turns down the Talamasca’s offer only to find out later that he never really had a choice. After enduring days, weeks, or maybe months of suffering, he’s nearly drained of all will to live when he awakens in safety, saved by the one who betrayed him and left his heart raw and bleeding. Jasper is overwhelmed by mixed feelings, unable to grasp why Guy would go to such lengths after running away from him. They cling to each other, they kiss, they hurl accusations - all at once. Guy is a rabbit comforting a wolf who can’t bring himself to devour it. Jasper desires to leave claw marks on his beating heart but can only lean into his gentle touch. Headfirst into the abyss of feelings, he needs some love. And Guy... loves him?

He moves the spoon, tilts it just a fraction, and watches in aeons-slow motion as the light glides through it, like liquid or some secret, fourth state of matter. No, fifth. Plasma is a thing. Is this plasma?
“No, babydoll, it’s not plasma,” Jasper replies with a wry smile, and oh, Guy must still be talking.
Armand gives a curt little sigh.
“Well, this is a horrifying glimpse into what could have been,” he says in a voice like polished glass, then looks at Molloy. “I was right not to turn you in the ‘70s, feel free to officially admit this at any time.”
“Jesus, he’s gonna be fine, it’s a temporary high!” Jasper groans, throwing his head back, then lifts it again to look at Armand. “It’s already fading, on night one he was so loaded he couldn’t walk straight. Trust me, I know what I’m doing. Not like I was a virgin when I did him. No offence.”
Or: Jasper brings a freshly turned (and high as a kite) Guy to Night Island to ask for Armand's help with the Talamasca; meanwhile, Daniel continues to live in a telenovela...Bookmarked by AO3chaeologist
