Summary
Asked for a prompt from my lovely beta Alwaysjbj and she gave me "what if when Spike had the Gem of Amara, Buffy didn't get it away from him. What if he won that fight, but let Buffy go anyway." Clearly, with that as a starting point, it went off-canon immediately, although the Initiative and Adam are still the bad guys.
