    This story takes place roughly 2 months prior to the start of "Twin Stars". We follow Kai'sa as she spends a stormy evening frantically worrying about Akali's safety. She hasn't heard anything from her best friend in two weeks and is desperate to receive a clue to where she is. Reflecting on what their friendship means to them, Kai'sa resolves to go out in the rain and try to find Akali. Before she gets the chance to walk into the storm, however, her best friend shows up right at her front door, soaked to the bone and notable bruises around her neck. Things at home have reached a breaking point for Akali, and her pride keeps her from reaching out to Kai'sa for help. Being a natural caretaker, Kai'sa tends to her best friend's condition and focuses all of her energy towards trying to cheer Akali up and bring the light back to her eyes after the night's events. As these events unfold, the two girls feel the early signs of stirring emotions they've never felt before, causing them to look at one another in a totally different light.

    Both of their shirts had ridden up to their armpits, hastily shoved out of the way without even bothering to remove them fully. Mira’s hand twitching slowly, expertly, somewhere below Zoey’s waistband as they kissed each other hungrily, like they'd been starving for it. There was a practiced sort of ease the pair moved with, like it was another of Mira’s complexly choreographed dances for just the two of them, one they knew by heart. This wasn't the first or even the thirtieth time they'd done this, Rumi suddenly realized.

    She told herself to move, feeling like she was intruding on something sacred that very much did not involve her. But her feet were glued to the floor, her eyes fixed on the two of them, on their movement.

    Rumi accidentally walks in on Mira and Zoey having sex and she definitely doesn't have any feelings about it. Not one. Nope. Certainly not.
