Summary
It’s after they’ve wolfed down their food and are resting in the living room that Caleb asks the question.
They’ve been sitting on the couch for an hour but Fjord’s had his eyes closed for at least half of it.
He’s been counting the beads on a necklace like one of the ladies at the asylum did when he was little. Her prayers to Erathis were more frantic though, obsessive, while his prayers to the Wildmother are calmer, somewhere between meditation and sleep.
Caleb had put his book aside to stare at Fjord fifteen minutes ago.
His feet twitch in Fjord’s lap before he asks. “Were you serious? That day at the wedding?”
Fjord opens one of his eyes and glances at Caleb out of the corner of it. “Hm?”
“Did you mean it? That day at the wedding… Did you mean it when you talked about starting a family?”

Summary
“You care for him,” Caduceus says, sounding surprised.
“Of course I do,” Fjord says, turning to Caduceus. “We all do.”
“But you care differently,” he says, low and soft, so out of place in the middle of a warzone. -

War is Hell.
Some famous dead person said that once.
Church wished he could find their ghost and drag them to blue base for game night because obviously they’d only ever seen the eighth level of Hell. Game night was easily the eleventh level.

Summary
They meet for just one night, both too young and full of hope to think about anything but possibilities for the future and the beauty of the snow under the moon. North and York change each other's lives in that one night, and it's certainly for the better.
