His seatmate in fifth grade asks him about it first. Her name is Layla, he still remembers, a pretty omega girl with dark hair and dark eyes, freshly immigrated from somewhere in East Asia. She’s playing with one of her ten gold rings when she looks over at Bob with a frown.
“Where’s yours?” she asks. Gestures at Bob’s empty hands and arms and neck.
“Where’s what?”
“Your bijouterie,” she clarifies. “Does your family do waist chains or something? My mom says she got me rings because that’s what they do back home, but I think they’re too flashy.”
His bijouterie is not hidden, because he doesn’t have any. But Bob doesn’t want to say that, can already feel the shame coloring his face pink.
“Um, no,” he stutters. “It’s just on my ankle.”
His ankle, of course, is empty.

Dr. Cho was going to cycle off hers for him, but he burned through faster than we expected.”
“So . . . he’s in heat, and there’s nobody around he doesn’t see as a threat?” Darcy summarizes, frowning.
“Long story short, yes,” Sam confirms.
“. . . and long story long?” Darcy asks skeptically, genuinely unable to help herself.
He tells them.
“Jesus Christ!”

If someone told Jamie Barnes she'd end up- well, she doesn't want to spoil the ending, but if anyone told her she and Cat Barton would be anything more than erotic enemies, she'd have laughed them out of the room.
If someone told Cat Barton that she'd end up eating her words, she'd probably shoot them just to prove a point. And then deeply contemplate the way the plates in Jamie Barnes' arm move, in an entirely platonic sort of way.
