Mostafa reached into his cloak and pulled out a small, ornate lamp. “Perhaps I can help ease your pain,” he said, holding the lamp out to her. “This is a gift from my homeland. It has the power to grant a wish to those who are truly in need.”
Penelope stared at the lamp, her heart pounding. “What… what does it do?”
“Allow me to show you,” he said. He brushed the lamp three times with his hand and whispered something.
As he did, his eyes seemed to glow with an eerie light, and Penelope felt a strange sensation wash over her. The pain that had been gnawing at her for so long suddenly vanished, replaced by an odd sense of detachment for Colin.
