Summary
It wasn’t like he couldn’t defend himself. If he wanted to, he could take down hordes of students with one fell swoop. But… he didn’t. Something inside him didn’t want to. Maybe it was the guilt looming in his chest, or maybe it was their cruel words that cut deep into his heart, but he couldn’t bring himself to fight back. He didn’t feel like he deserved to. They were clearly doing this for a reason, right? They had every right to hate him for what he did.
This wasn’t really anything worth fighting over, anyway. This kind of treatment wasn’t new to him at all. It was hardly dissimilar from the way the scouts treated him back at the Emperor’s Coven, and he dealt with that just fine.
…Sometimes he wonders if he’s the issue.

Summary
Hunter was a good kid, and he wasn’t going to let Darius down. He wasn’t going to let the love he’d finally earned back slip between his grasp ever again. He’d continue to be the perfect, non-problematic child Darius saw him as, and even if his love would dwindle with time, he was going to do everything in his power to hold onto it as long as possible.
So he lugged himself out of bed, shaking off the warm blanket that he immediately missed. He dragged himself downstairs like the responsible almost-adult he was.

Summary
Darius tells Hunter that the food in the fridge is at his disposal and of course Hunter thinks he didn't mean all of it. Just what is spoiled and stale. He can't waste anything after all, he's already a burden enough.
(or Hunter gives himself food poisoning and him and Darius are due for a talk)

But Darius surely hadn’t meant that he could take and eat whatever he wanted like some selfish glutton. He hadn’t properly earned any of it, he was just being shown what he could have if he was good enough.
And that was something he wasn’t. Not while he stood in front of the fridge in the dead of night, gorging himself on food even if he only took what was stale and beginning to spoil. Nothing should go to waste after all.
