Maybe Will really did bite the dust in dimension x and this is the afterlife. He knows where they say boys like him end up after death.
But if hell was a baby-faced Mike Wheeler, still looking at him like he'd hung the stars, then maybe an eternity here wouldn't be so bad.
In which Will's connection to the hive mind has consequences in the final battle, sending him back in time to November 6th 1983.
It's just like Back to the Future, if Marty McFly was a twelve year old with a bowl cut trying to save the world.

Summary

However, as the story progresses, the author finds herself losing inspiration, and when her own life gets in the way, she decides to write about that instead. Who knew adopting another bitty could be so much work?
