“Akaza?” he prompts. “Are you ready to take the human medicine now?”
Akaza blinks a couple of times, even if the action does nothing to save him from the tidal pull of growing doubt—which shouldn’t exist in the first place. Muzan is dead, as is every demon that is connected to him by the curse. Kamado Tanjiro’s sister has taken the medicine as well long ago, and it had worked. Akaza is effectively the only demon left. The only reason he had refused the medicine with Nezuko had been because he knew he was stronger and more useful as a demon, but now, there is no more war to fight.
He swallows. Opens his mouth. There is only one right answer to this question, and it’s—
“Maybe tomorrow, Kyojuro.”
—not that.
(Or: Akaza finally gets his chance to become human, but things aren't always as simple as they seem.)
