Katsuki swears he can hear himself flatlining.
He's vaguely aware he can still hear Deku talking, that dumbass, but his brain isn't registering any of the content.

Suddenly, the nerd's urgent messages, his awkward shifting, his flushed face, and his blown pupils all make too much goddamn sense.

Summary
The Skywalkers are the owners and managers of Starbird Ranch, a camp that runs eight 5-day camps throughout the summer, for kids in the foster system, up for adoption, or from families that are struggling. It's good work, but hard; the pay is barely enough to be taxable, the hours are miserable, and the college kids on staff go to bed every night worn completely out.
Last summer, Ben spent his days sitting atop the 45 ft tower of their rock climbing wall, shepherding screaming kiddos down a zip line. But after a fallout between the Skywalkers and the camp's former director -- and an accident on the ropes course -- Ben was reassigned to manage the camp kitchen so Leia can be the new director, and a new girl is brought in to fill Ben's old position.
The summers in Niima are hot... and so is Rey. Ben is doomed.

“Stamina,” Bucky repeats, flat. “Uh huh.” And then he's throwing back the rest of his drink, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, turning to Steve and squaring his jaw all challenge. “How many times?”
“How—”

“I—” Steve starts, flushing so hot he feels like he must be a beacon in the bar, shining through the grey-out. Bucky's still looking at him, curious, and something else under it, something Steve can't place. “Four,” he says, compulsively too-honest in the face of Bucky’s gaze, and Bucky's eyes widen.

It was a trauma response, he knew. They'd both been through so much, rubbed raw by all that damage, there was little logic left when the bad times came. Maybe what he'd done to Midoriya was just simpler than what the villains had done to him, than the people he had failed to save. Concrete, and easy to know who to blame. Maybe it was just that Midoriya was the only nightmare he loved.

Izuku would probably label them friends with benefits. It’s wild to think about; a decade or so ago he would have considered just having Kacchan in his life to be a benefit, and now he gets to have him like this, flayed open for Izuku’s consumption, stripped down and raw in a way only Izuku gets to see. Izuku would like to be the only one who ever got to see it, but he’s too afraid to push his luck. Katsuki seemed content with what they were doing, so Izuku makes himself be happy with what he’s got.
