“Alina, was it?” Aleksanders voice comes from behind her, the door shutting with a soft click as he steps into the room.
She doesn’t jump. Despite knowing that the door should have creaked. It always has. No matter how many times Mal’s dad, their dad, has tried to fix it. She’s too used to the way he sneaks up on her.
You’re supposed to be in New York” She says, ignoring his question. Her name is the least of their concerns.
Aleksander doesn’t seem to agree. “And you told me your name is Alya. I suppose we’re both liars”
Wiping her still wet hands on the towel she turns to lean against the counter, meeting his eyes with a shrug. “Alya is a diminutive of Alina”
“That was a well prepared answer” Aleksander says, resting his hand on the back of a chair. The small table in the breakfast nook acting like a separation between them. “Do that a lot then?”
She tilts her head, like she’s considering his question. “Lie about my name? Or fuck my boyfriends brother?”
Or: Alina goes home with her boyfriend for the holidays and realizes that she might know his brother a bit better than she thought.
