Harry was forced to return to the Dursleys in the summer before his fourth year. Dumbledore said it was due to his mother’s protection, laid by love, that he couldn’t live with Sirius at Grimmauld’s Place, and had to, instead, stay with his blood relatives.
He knew the love part was stupid, but the blood one earned his interest.
Perhaps, had Lily Evans done Blood magic?

It's a bit of a hard adjustment for a beloved sixty year old man to wake up as an unwanted little boy (that is not really a boy) in a cupboard under the stairs, but he didn't grow to live that old if he didn't know how to roll with the punches.
