Summary
After Caul was defeated, all of Peculairdom rioted for his execution. But Alma, who had taken over after Miss Avocet's death, wouldn't let that happen. He was sentenced to three hundred years in a punishment loop, leaving his sister to sit with her guilt for decades.
Until she couldn't take it anymore. Therefore, without proper permission, she takes him out on parole on claims of rehabilitation.
Which makes her people less than happy.

Takes place in the same universe as Lanner but you don’t have to read that before this.
Emma Bloom has bad luck with boys. This one, is no better. Many things have changed a year after Caul’s death, including but not limited to his children being integrated in to peculiar society. They’re difficult, anti-social, and all have a terrible personality quirk that wreaks hell upon those who are forced to be around them.
Emma, in particular, repeatedly runs in to the second son who is a whole world of trouble by himself. After a giant forehead sized bruise, a breakdown in a library, and some oddly smelling tea, she starts to wonder if being around Raiden Bentham is more trouble than it’s worth.
Yet for some reason, she always finds herself coming back.
