    Summary

Percy is a florist who sees the world around him as a forgotten source of small joys. Annabeth, an overly serious lawyer who makes up for the things she lacks with the time she has left, even forgetting to look around her.

When, after an unusual day at work, she begins to receive flowers in her office accompanied by notes reminding her to smile, her biggest mystery to solve is to find out who wrote them, what anyone might have seen in her, and why a smile spreads across her lips whenever the flowers appear.

And it could be that the key to small joys lies in looking out of the window.

“Put your arm around my neck,” he said, and Annabeth frowned, confused, but did as he said, and a moment later, she was lifted in the air, one of his arms in the crook of her knees and the other behind her back.

“Percy!” she gasped, tightening her grip on him. “What are you doing?”

“I can tell that your shoes are making your feet hurt,” he shrugged. “I can carry you so why wouldn’t I?” Annabeth felt her skin heat up, and she leaned in to kiss his cheek, leaving behind a slight stain of her lip gloss. She didn’t think he’d mind.

    Summary

the sensation is overwhelming. intimate in a way that makes his vision blur for a second. he can feel her breath against his mouth. feel the way her whole body goes taut, like a drawn bow.

    “percy,” she breathes.

“tell me to stop,” he says again, quieter now. raw. “beth, please. tell me to back up.”

    she closes her eyes.

for a heartbeat he thinks she’s going to say it. thinks this is where she pulls away. where she chooses the safer thing like she always does.

    but she doesn’t.

    she opens her eyes instead.

    they’re dark. shining. wrecked.

    “i can’t,” she admits. “i don’t want to.”

the honesty of it hits him so hard he almost sways.

    his forehead finally touches hers.

    just barely.

the contact feels like electricity. like relief and agony all at once. he exhales shakily, forehead pressed to hers, eyes closed like it’s the only way to keep himself together.

    annabeth doesn’t pull away.

or, post-heroes of olympus, percy and annabeth still aren’t dating for fear of how far they’d go.

She narrows her eyes at him, and tilts her head at the same time.
He’s giving her an embarrassed smile, like he wants to change the subject knowing full well he probably can’t. ‘Anyone ever tell you that you look like an owl, Annabeth.’
