Summary
Neil had always been naturally drawn to Andrew more than the rest of his friends. In the beginning stages of his adoption, it had driven Kevin crazy with jealousy, but there had always been something enticing about Andrew’s stony silence. He took Neil’s truths with a calmness the rest of his family — yes, they were his family now — had failed to master. He remained patient, but never prodded. Silent, yet not quite judgemental. He was Andrew and Neil had always loved him.
He had just recently, with lots of help from Allison and Jean, realized that the love extended beyond what he considered platonic.

The man sitting across from him is an exact copy of the doctor he just saw a few minutes ago. Neil is only sure they aren’t the same person because his hair is longer, the strands more disheveled, the lack of ornate equipment around his neck helps distinguish him, and because he also swears he just heard the pediatrician in one of the other rooms still listening to his patient’s stories.

Summary
They’d been on the run for nearly four years when Nathan’s men had caught up to them. Jean wasn’t sure of the details since Neil refused to speak of it, but he knew somehow Mary had ended up dead, and Neil had shown up at Evermore with a bullet hole in his chest and the smell of smoke still clinging to his clothes.
Or, the fic where Mary still takes Neil and runs but they’re caught when he’s 14 and he’s returned to Evermore.
